The Hero Julius—or rather, the former Hero Julius.

Ever since the world was split by Naraku, the unique powers of the Hero had vanished from him completely.

Though his title still showed "Hero" on the skill panel, the special ability that once defined it—being able to raise his stats and power to match the Demon Lord during battle—was now gone.

Not that it mattered much. With the massive Naraku Wall now dividing demonkind and humanity, and no teleportation magic capable of crossing that wall, he couldn’t even see the Demon Lord if he wanted to.

No—actually, now that he thought about it, the barrier had been up for a full year already. While teleportation magic still functioned within human territory, any spell attempting to bypass the Naraku Wall failed completely.

It was as if that dark abyssal barrier had split more than just the physical world—it had cleaved through higher dimensions as well.

Still, even without the Hero’s unique power, Julius remained one of humanity’s top fighters thanks to years of training and the stat bonuses from his lingering title. There was no reason to fall into despair.

With such thoughts swirling in his mind, Julius pushed open the grand door before him.

Inside sat two figures: the man he respected least—the 61st Pontiff of the Divine Word Church, Dustin—and his own father, locked in a solemn discussion.

The moment Julius stepped in, his father beckoned. “Julius, come quickly. We were just talking about you.”

“Yes, Father.”

Julius crossed the room and sat opposite them on a soft cushion. Straightening his back, he nodded gravely toward Dustin and offered a polite bow.

“Your Holiness.”

“Greetings, Hero Julius,” Dustin replied with a shallow nod. “Your father and I were just discussing some troubling developments on the continent.”

“Troubling?” Julius tilted his head in curiosity.

“Yes,” the Pontiff said, eyes glinting with faint hope. “As you know, under the guidance of the Divine Word Church, humanity has formed a multilateral Allied Human Kings’ Coalition to unite our strength against the war with the demons that awaits us ten years from now.”

“To be honest, I never imagined the unification would proceed so smoothly. Many nations willingly ceded part of their authority and military control, placing their forces under the Coalition’s command. Your father and the Sword Emperor, in particular, have been models of understanding.”

“In just one year, we’ve nearly completed the military restructuring. Some nations have even begun building fortresses and border posts near the demon frontlines. Adventurers, too, recognizing the cause of humanity, have joined the Coalition armies and submitted to centralized management. Far beyond our expectations.”

“What’s more, thanks to improved interconnectivity among nations, both the economy and living standards have risen markedly.”

“The entire human world is thriving.”

But just as his words built to a hopeful crescendo, Dustin’s expression darkened. He shook his head slightly.

“If only humanity had been this united in the past, perhaps we wouldn’t be in this situation now.”

Julius didn’t quite understand what he meant, but nodded all the same, a faint smile in his eyes.

“Yes, it’s thanks to Your Holiness and the other monarchs’ tireless efforts. Humanity is steadily growing stronger.”

“I feel the same,” Dustin said with a nod, then sighed. “But even amid this newfound prosperity... not all is well.”

He turned to Julius. “Are you familiar with the Northern March Forest, in the Empire’s northwest corner?”

“I’ve heard of it,” Julius said, frowning. “Wasn’t that where the Empire exiled its worst criminals?”

“Yes. Traitors, regicides, murderers of nobles... The most dangerous families were banished there. And now, after the Naraku Wall rose... they seem to have developed ambitions.”

“Ambitions?” Julius frowned deeper.

“They intend to found a nation,” Dustin said with a strange expression.

“A nation?” Julius echoed in disbelief.

His father nodded. “That was our reaction too, but the intel from inside the Northern March Forest suggests it’s real.”

“Somehow, those people have acquired weapons from the previous age,” Dustin said, his expression growing odder. “They’ve built powerful star-shaped fortresses and blockaded the forest’s entrance.”

“And what exactly do you want me to do?” Julius asked.

“Be our emissary,” Dustin replied confidently. “We don’t know why the exiles are taking this path, but we need information. And sending a Hero—a symbol of protection—will put them at ease.”

Using the title of Hero as a bargaining chip to lower their guard, huh? Julius immediately saw through the older man’s intention.

“Exactly,” Dustin confirmed with a nod.

“Very well.” Though Julius disapproved of such tactics, for the sake of humanity and global stability, he agreed to investigate.

“Thank you, Hero. Humanity will not forget your service,” said Dustin.

“No need for thanks,” Julius smiled. “You’ve done much for humanity yourself, Your Holiness. That said—do you have any background information on the Northern March Forest I could review before departing?”

“Of course,” Dustin said, nodding. “There is one particularly intriguing report...”

“From one of my personal spies.”

“The reason the exiles dared to found a nation seems to be linked to a certain group of young people among them who obtained a skill—Hyper Thought Acceleration Field: LVMAX.”

“Beyond that, we know nothing.”

Hyper Thought Acceleration Field: LVMAX...? Understood.” Julius nodded thoughtfully. “I’ll be especially cautious. Still, it’s strange... Could one skill alone really give them the confidence to rebel?”

“That’s what worries us,” Dustin said, glancing at Julius’s father. “We suspect something... or someone else is involved.”

“Perhaps the Upper Administrator D... or the Geo Dragon Zhongli. We have no proof, but I can’t shake the feeling they’re behind this.”

“I understand.” Julius sat up straighter and nodded solemnly.
