Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [262]

Of course Gary had read through the information August gave him.

The Draconid People were an ancient tribe that had survived in the Hoenn region from antiquity to the present day.

A thousand years ago, the Draconid People, who revered the "Dragon God" Rayquaza, had prophesied that a massive meteorite would crash down a millennium later, threatening to destroy the world — and only the Dragon God could save it.

He hadn’t expected that the girl standing before him would turn out to be one of the Draconid People...

While Gary was curiously sizing up Zinnia, she was watching August and Gary with extreme caution.

These two had appeared at the Sky Pillar without warning.

They had attacked her immediately and even accurately called out her identity — everything about them screamed bad intentions.

Meanwhile, the battle between the two Salamence was growing more intense.

Back and forth they clashed, and now, the extra weight Salamence had recently gained was starting to show its value.

Thanks to its solid build, August’s Salamence clearly had the upper hand!

"You know who I am already," Zinnia said coldly, "then it’s only fair you tell me your names, intruders!"

As she spoke, her hand stealthily moved toward another Pokéball on her belt, ready to defend herself if the two ganged up on her.

August noticed the motion but wasn’t concerned. "Seems like you missed part of our conversation earlier... Allow me to introduce myself. I’m August, International Police. The guy next to me is my assistant, Gary."

Zinnia frowned. "You’re with the League?"

She couldn’t quite tell the difference between the Hoenn League and the International Police, but as long as they were League-affiliated, that was all she needed to know.

Her impression of the League wasn’t just bad — it was downright abysmal. After all, it was League operatives who had once forcibly tried to capture Rayquaza, causing a catastrophe for her kin, Zinnia’s own relative Aster.

And now League people were here, at the Sky Pillar...

Are they trying to seize the Dragon God again!?

Without hesitation, Zinnia threw the Pokéball she had been reaching for.

With a burst of light, a Goodra appeared before her.

"Goodra, [Sludge Wave]!"

Goodra opened its mouth and unleashed a surging wave of purple sludge toward August and Gary.

The poisonous sludge engulfed everything in its path.

It didn’t take much imagination to know what would happen if they were hit — it wouldn’t end well.

Faced with Zinnia’s sudden attack, August simply sighed. "I figured as much..."

He snapped his fingers.

A Pokéball at his waist popped open automatically.

In a flash, his Dragonair appeared, its body coiled gracefully as it floated in midair. Without missing a beat, it unleashed a [Water Pulse] to meet the incoming sludge.

The water attack clashed against the sludge, neutralizing it. At the same time, the two Salamence, realizing that their Trainers were truly fighting now, shifted from playful sparring to ferocious combat.

Both of their eyes flashed with fighting spirit as they lunged at each other.

"Raaagh!"

Zinnia’s Salamence roared, flames igniting along its fangs as it lunged for the neck of August’s Salamence.

But August’s Salamence wasn’t just big — it was quick too. Without hesitation, it launched a [Zen Headbutt] straight toward the oncoming Fire Fang.

Boom!

The force of the headbutt and the fiery bite collided.

The clash rang out with a sharp metallic clang, scattering sparks into the air.

Zinnia’s Salamence clearly got the worse of the exchange — and August had no trouble seeing that.

Breaking your own teeth in the fight? Yeah, that’s called losing.

Zinnia realized that August was far stronger than she had expected. Still, she had more than one card to play.

"You’re strong... but this is where it ends!" she shouted.

She swiftly bent down, brushing her fingers against the spiral anklet at her ankle.

"Go, Salamence!"

With her cry, her Salamence, the one who had just cracked its teeth, suddenly burst into radiant light.

In the blink of an eye, its entire form changed.

Its wings fused into a gigantic crescent shape, and the armored plates along its belly extended to shield most of its body.

[Mega Evolution].

"Salamence, [Hyper Voice]!"

The newly [Mega-Evolved] Salamence roared again, unleashing a devastating shockwave at August’s Salamence.

Its ability, [Aerilate], activated — transforming [Hyper Voice] into a Flying-type move and massively boosting its power.

The sound waves roared through the air, forming a visible blast of compressed wind!

August’s Salamence tried to counter with [Dragon Pulse]...

But it was no match for a [Mega-Evolved] opponent.

The [Dragon Pulse] was instantly shattered, and August’s Salamence was blasted backward by the force of the [Hyper Voice].

Seeing this, Gary immediately reached for his Pokéball, ready to jump into the fight.

But August raised a hand to stop him.

"Mega Salamence really is powerful. My Salamence doesn’t stand a chance," August said without the slightest bitterness, even sounding a bit admiring.

Zinnia felt a growing sense of foreboding but still pressed on. "If you know that, then surrender now and leave! The Sky Pillar belongs to the Draconid People. League scum aren’t welcome here!"

August shook his head. "Sorry. I’m afraid I can’t leave... Not until we capture Rayquaza."

"...What did you say?"

Zinnia stared at him in disbelief.

He couldn’t even defeat her, and he still dared to boast about capturing the Dragon God?

Furious, she prepared to teach him a lesson—

—but then August casually pulled out a Master Ball from his belt.

Sure, he could have just sent out Gardevoir and slowly worn her down, but August wasn’t in the mood to waste time.

"Go, Mewtwo. Finish this quickly."

Bang!

A flash of white light exploded outward.

Mewtwo floated into the air, clutching a massive spoon-like weapon formed from psychic energy. Its gaze swept over the battlefield, pausing briefly on the Mega Salamence.

It gave a small nod.

The next moment, Mewtwo vanished from sight.

Then, without warning, it reappeared — and with a casual swing, it slammed its psychic "spoon" like a hammer down on Mega Salamence, driving it straight into the stone floor, shattering tiles everywhere.

Two minutes later, Mewtwo hovered in the sky above, holding a limp Salamence in one hand — now reverted to its regular form — and a slippery Goodra in the other.

It looked down coldly at Zinnia.

"You lost."

Zinnia’s hand, which had been reaching for her remaining Pokéballs, froze midair.

Not because she hesitated — because she literally couldn’t move, held rigid by Mewtwo’s psychic grip.

She couldn't comprehend it. How had the entire tide of battle been reversed the instant he sent out that strange, unfamiliar Pokémon?

How does he have a Pokémon that strong?!

I’m finished... Zinnia thought bleakly.

She could only watch helplessly as August strode up, confiscated her Pokéballs, snapped a pair of handcuffs onto her wrists, and handed her over to the strange and terrifying Mewtwo.
