Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [295]

A gentle green glow streamed from Celebi’s hand.

Bathed in its light, the potted plants on the balcony sprang to life, growing so vigorously that they cracked their ceramic pots.

Outside the window, a few Cherubi fluttered over, sticking to the glass as they curiously peered into the room.

The entire bedroom was suddenly full of life—flourishing, vibrant, and warm.

Under everyone’s watchful gaze, Platinum Berlitz—whose brow had been tightly furrowed—gradually began to relax. Her eyelids twitched ever so slightly, and then…

“Uuh…”

With a low whimper, she slowly opened her eyes—only to be startled by the sight of so many people gathered around her.

“Mom? Dad…?”

“Platinum!”

Watching the reunited family embrace, August stepped quietly to the side, nodding toward Professor Oak and Koga to give the Berlitz family space. Beside them, Sebastian, the family’s butler, dabbed at the corners of his eyes with a handkerchief, his expression one of deep relief.

As they moved aside, Koga still looked a little stunned. “That’s it? She’s healed already?”

He’d heard all about how the heiress of the Berlitz family had fallen into a coma after being struck by Darkrai’s powers, how every treatment they’d tried had failed.

And yet here August was—he shows up, releases Celebi, and bam—problem solved?

Professor Oak explained gently, “According to the records, Celebi does possess powerful healing abilities…”

As he spoke, he glanced over at Celebi, his eyes filled with a touch of nostalgia.

The little onion-headed Pokémon had perched itself on August’s shoulder, whispering something into his ear.

August fell into thought.

Noticing Professor Oak’s gaze, Celebi tilted its head curiously—then suddenly smiled, gave a cheeky wave, and greeted him with a little flutter of its hand.

Koga watched the interaction between August, Celebi, and Oak.

Why does it feel like… I’m the odd one out here?

At that moment, the Berlitz family finally collected themselves.

“Thank you so much, August,” said Professor Berlitz and his wife, deeply sincere.

Without August, they truly wouldn’t have known what to do.

August waved it off. “It’s fine. I had to come to Sinnoh anyway. And besides… Celebi didn’t fully cure her.”

“What?”

Their faces tensed again at those words.

August elaborated, drawing from what Celebi had shared with him: “Celebi did successfully remove the negative energy Darkrai left in her body and helped her regain consciousness. But there’s still a trace of Darkrai’s power lingering in her spiritual realm—her mind. That’s not something Celebi can reach.”

He turned to Platinum.

“So… there will be a bit of a side effect.”

“Side effect?” the Berlitz couple and Platinum asked in unison, visibly anxious.

“It’s nothing serious. Just… she might be more prone to nightmares than most,” August said.

There was no threat to her life, and she wouldn’t fall into a coma again. It was just a susceptibility to nightmares—by all accounts, a very minor aftereffect.

Professor Berlitz and his wife exchanged a look. August wasn’t wrong, but seeing how pale and frail Platinum looked, they still couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

Dr. Yanase, her mother, hesitated, then asked gently, “Is there any way to fix it completely?”

“There are two options.” August held up two fingers. “One’s a complete solution. The other is temporary relief.”

The Berlitzes hadn’t expected there to be any option, much less two. Their expressions lit up with hope.

August continued, “The permanent solution is simple—since the wound came from Darkrai, you just need Cresselia, the Pokémon of pleasant dreams, to erase its lingering influence.”

But at that, their faces fell again.

They had tried to search for Cresselia while Platinum was still unconscious—but found nothing. That was why they’d turned to Daigo, and ultimately to August, for help.

“As for temporary relief…” August reached toward his other shoulder.

“Mew~!”

With a tiny, sleepy mewl, Mew was lifted up by the scruff of its neck, dangling from August’s hand with a disgruntled pout.

It rubbed its eyes and flailed its little fists at August in protest.

Everyone stared in stunned silence.

Aside from Professor Oak, who was already used to August’s outrageous Pokémon connections thanks to Gary, even Koga—who had once been bested by August—was dumbfounded.

Mew?!

And with Celebi earlier… this guy’s legendary Pokémon luck was insane.

“Wake up—come on, I need a favor,” August said, giving Mew a little shake.

With a tired sigh and some mild grumbling, Mew opened its eyes and looked toward Platinum.

She blinked at it, her curiosity piqued.

The moment their eyes met, Mew’s gaze flashed a brilliant blue.

Then, without a word, it floated back to August’s shoulder, turned invisible, and promptly went back to sleep.

August turned back to the others. “We’re good. At least for the next week, she shouldn’t have any nightmares.”

He soon noticed everyone staring at his shoulder.

It was Professor Berlitz who finally broke the silence, bowing again. “Thank you once more, Mr. August. I’ll dispatch a team immediately to begin searching for signs of Cresselia.”

Still, Cresselia wasn’t something that could be tracked down overnight.

After a moment of hesitation, Professor Berlitz gritted his teeth and said, “Mr. August, I have a selfish request.”

He bowed deeply.

“Until we find Cresselia, could you take Platinum with you for now…?”

“The Berlitz family is willing to pay any price.”

Platinum blinked. “Father…?”

Hearing this, August couldn’t help but think the world was full of ironies.

Back in Hoenn, he had suggested letting Ruby join the International Police—only for Norman to refuse outright.

Now here in Sinnoh, Professor Berlitz was basically throwing his daughter at him.

“Professor Berlitz… you know who I am, don’t you?” August asked.

He nodded.

“Then you must know that being around me is dangerous.”

Sure, he always made it look easy when he dealt with Team Rocket, Team Magma, or Team Aqua—but those weren’t ordinary thugs.

Even the weakest of them, taken alone, were dangerous criminals.

August was interested in recruiting Platinum to the Kanto Division, of course.

But he didn’t want anyone making decisions they might regret later.

“In any case… you should really think it over,” August said. “And more importantly, you should ask Platinum how she feels about it.”

...

After leaving the Berlitz estate, August, Professor Oak, and Koga walked together down the road.

“Why didn’t you just say yes?” Oak asked. “Gary told me you’re always scheming to expand the Kanto Division. With the Berlitz family’s support, wouldn’t that be a huge help?”

What you really meant to say was I trick, cheat, and swindle, right?

August silently made a mental note to get back at Gary later.

Aloud, he replied, “I just wanted them to think it through a bit. I didn’t come to Sinnoh just to help someone. The bigger mission is dealing with Team Galactic.”

“Team Galactic’s no joke,” August added. “Koga, you’ve been up against them for days—you know.”

Koga nodded solemnly.

As a former Rocket executive, no one understood the threat level better than he did.

“I heard a bit from Professor Rowan before,” Oak added. “At first I thought he was exaggerating, but… now I see he wasn’t.”

As they spoke, they arrived in front of Professor Rowan’s lab.

Oak pressed the intercom.

Soon, the professor himself emerged from the building, cloak billowing around him. Dapper as ever, he looked more like a nobleman than a Pokémon researcher.

“Oak, you old dog! Took you long enough!” Rowan grinned. “I heard you were in a hijacking. You alright?”

A renowned professor in his own right, Rowan had worked with Oak in Kanto years ago.

But after a surge of discoveries related to Sinnoh mythology, he returned to his home region to pursue his research.

“Of course I’m alright,” Oak said, then gestured to his companions. “This is August—and Koga.”

“August? The one from the Hoenn incident?” Rowan asked, eyes narrowing.

Though the League never officially released the full story, as a professor, Rowan had heard bits and pieces.

He studied August intently.

Meanwhile, Koga—once again ignored—thought to himself, Am I a ghost? Did my invisibility training finally succeed without me realizing?

August, unfazed, simply smiled. “Nice to meet you, Professor Rowan.”

“Come in. We’ll talk inside.”

...

Rowan’s lab was much like Oak’s—complete with a towering windmill.

Inside, August recognized a number of familiar instruments.

There were devices from Silph Co., others from Devon Corp.—he’d bought some of the same ones for Steven and Grandpa Samson during one of his “retail therapy” sprees.

But what truly caught his eye were the framed photos on the wall.

“What’s this?”

August stepped closer. The images depicted strange symbols in ancient script and abstract murals that were somehow even more chaotic than Mew’s doodles.

But what stood out most were two emblems—one shaped like a weathered green pentagon, the other a pink circular pattern.

Rowan noticed his interest and stepped forward. “Those were unearthed in a ruin near Jubilife City. We don’t know their exact meaning yet—no associated artifacts have been found. But we believe they’re highly significant to ancient Sinnoh history.”

He sounded deeply regretful.

Though archaeologists had no clue what they represented, August recognized them immediately.

“The Diamond Clan and The Pearl Clan…” he murmured.

“What?” Rowan blinked.

August smiled. “They were the symbols of two ancient Sinnoh factions—The Diamond Clan and The Pearl Clan.”

Both Rowan and Oak turned to stare at him.

“How do you know that?” Rowan asked, stunned.

It wasn’t suspicion—just pure astonishment.

Just one glance, and he’d correctly identified something scholars hadn’t been able to decode for years?

“It’s something Celebi told me a while back,” August replied smoothly, casually tossing the blame.

Inside the GS Ball, Celebi: “...???”

I did WHAT now?

Rowan still looked skeptical, but Oak had already accepted it.

“In fact, August does have a Celebi,” he said. “It may have seen those emblems during its travels through time. Besides, August has a natural talent for archaeology—he even saved a baby Lugia back in Kanto.”

Rowan was blown away.

He already thought August was impressive after the Hoenn incident—but this? This was something else.

He jotted down “Diamond Clan” and “Pearl Clan” in his notes.

Then August said, “Professor Rowan, I’m interested in the history of Hisui. Would it be possible for me to look over your research files?”

After everything he’d just seen, Rowan was no longer surprised.

He nodded and sent August a data packet.

As August eagerly began flipping through the files, Rowan turned to Oak. “So, what do you think about this symposium?”

Oak shook his head. “Not much to say. I don’t know Sinnoh’s legendary Pokémon well enough to contribute anything decisive.”

August perked up. “Legendary Pokémon?”

“You didn’t know?” Oak asked.

Cough... That’s usually Blue’s job. She’s the one who feeds me intel,” August replied, masking his embarrassment behind a cough.

He’d gotten a little lazy, admittedly.

With Blue always summarizing the info for him, he’d gotten used to having everything spoon-fed. Without her, he was… slightly off his game.

Seeing he genuinely didn’t know, Oak explained, “This symposium is officially titled the Sinnoh Legendary Pokémon Countermeasure Conference.”

“The goal is to understand Team Galactic’s true objectives—and help the Sinnoh League develop a response plan.”

“I see…” August nodded.

Sinnoh really was sparing no effort.

No wonder Team Galactic was desperate enough to hijack a plane—this symposium must’ve been the trigger.

Still, August wasn’t optimistic.

Not because he doubted the scholars—both Oak and Rowan were brilliant minds. If anyone could decipher Galactic’s goals, it was them.

But the issue was… Team Galactic wasn’t going to wait around for the conference to finish.
