Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [297]
Added 2025-05-07 06:02:14 +0000 UTCAugust’s conversation with Looker went smoothly.
They agreed to meet in Hearthome City. After that, August glanced at his phone, still blacklisted by Giovanni, and couldn’t help but sigh.
Man, that guy really can’t take a joke.
It was just a little teasing—did he really have to block him for this long?
He’s no fun at all. Life just wasn’t as entertaining without that reaction.
Just as August was about to put his phone away, he noticed a new message from Cynthia.
[Cynthia]: August, you’re in Sinnoh?
[Cynthia]: Where are you? This time, it’s my turn to treat you 😄
Cynthia was clearly thrilled. Back at Indigo Plateau, August had helped her out. Now that he’d come to Sinnoh, she intended to return the favor with full hospitality.
[GardevoirBestGirl]: I’ve got a few things to take care of first. You know the Sinnoh IP Division got hit by Team Galactic—I’m going to pay them a visit.
Let’s meet in Hearthome City.
Since he was already meeting Looker there, he might as well combine the two.
Cynthia seemed to catch on immediately.
[Cynthia]: Great! I’ll see you in Hearthome then!
...
August put away his phone and looked up—only to find Platinum staring at him.
The moment their eyes met, she quickly turned away, pretending to focus on her glass of warm milk like nothing had happened.
"Do I have something on my face?"
He turned to Gardevoir and asked via telepathy.
Gardevoir examined him briefly and shook her head.
Whew. Good. August had been worried he’d gotten up too fast and left something on his face.
By now, all the Pokémon had finished breakfast.
August snatched up Eevee, who was mid-leap into his lap, and, amid her grumpy bui-bui noises, wiped the cream off her mouth before settling her down.
Just then, Mew floated back to his shoulder—and the moment it landed, August felt a sudden weight.
He glanced over.
The once-light, petite Mew was now visibly bloated, its little belly round and puffed out. Who knew how many mini cakes it had crammed in there?
“It may be a buffet breakfast,” August muttered, “but you’re giving mythical Pokémon a bad name like this. If you get any heavier, I won’t be able to carry you.”
“Mew!”
Face flushed, Mew waved its little paws in protest, smacking August repeatedly in indignation.
“See? You’re already mad. Okay, okay—I'll stop.”
After pacifying the offended Mew, August turned to Platinum. “If you’re done, let’s head out.”
She set down her milk and gave a graceful nod—but her eyes sparkled with excitement.
Is it finally starting? My journey…
Father said Mr. August was an incredible trainer.
I wonder if I’ll learn how to become that strong, too.
...
Jubilife City
As one of Sinnoh’s most populated cities, Jubilife’s skyline loomed large even from the outskirts.
It was Platinum’s first time traveling without her family or staff, and she was clearly brimming with curiosity and excitement.
She maintained her usual ladylike composure on the surface—but internally, everything was new and fascinating.
She held her Pokédex tightly and pressed buttons nonstop.
[Staravia – the Starling Pokémon. It lives in forests and grasslands, and often moves in large flocks.]
She had just scanned a Staravia when the startled bird took flight with a loud squawk.
“Mr. August, what just happened?” she asked, confused.
August glanced at the sky.
“You triggered a territorial response. It thinks you’re an intruder.”
“?”
Before Platinum could react further, a deafening chorus of bird cries rang out.
Dozens—no, hundreds—of Starly came swooping in, summoned by a commanding screech from a nearby Staraptor.
Piplup, still nestled in Platinum’s arms, sprang out immediately, facing the airborne swarm.
Though hopelessly outnumbered, it didn’t flinch. Instead, it puffed out its chest and unleashed a [Bubble Beam] at the nearest flock.
The attack burst in mid-air, knocking several unlucky Starly out of the sky.
But the swarm was too large. As the others closed in—
“Gardevoir. Clear the skies,” August said calmly.
Gardevoir glanced at the encroaching flock.
Then, without a word, she raised one arm.
Hummmm...
In the next instant, her psychic field expanded—enveloping the entire area.
Every single bird in the air—Staraptor included—froze mid-flight, suspended like puppets on invisible strings.
It was… eerie.
Platinum and Piplup stared in awe at the silent, unmoving flock overhead.
The moment August saw they’d “calmed down,” he nodded to Gardevoir.
She withdrew her psychic hold.
The Starly regained motion—and promptly plummeted.
Thud-thud-thud, dozens of them hit the ground.
But not a single one lingered. As soon as they recovered, they flapped their wings furiously and fled the area in panic.
Only the few Piplup had knocked out earlier remained behind.
“Want to catch one?” August asked.
Platinum tilted her head thoughtfully, then picked the plumpest-looking one from the group and tossed a Great Ball.
Watching her capture the Starly, August couldn’t help muttering to himself.
I mean, I knew Platinum had that “constantly-attacked” aura from the manga…
But traveling with her in person really made him realize how ridiculous it was.
From Sandgem to Jubilife—a relatively short route—she’d already been attacked three separate times by wild Pokémon.
And not once had she provoked them.
She was practically a walking encounter trigger.
No wonder she’d gotten swept up in that Darkrai incident just by “passing through.”
“Mr. August?” Platinum blinked. He was staring at her again.
“Nothing. Let’s keep going. There’s just… a lot more wild Pokémon than usual out here. Should be fine once we get into the city… probably.”
Even he didn’t sound confident.
Still, first things first—get into the city.
...
Jubilife was full of landmarks.
From the Jubilife TV station in the north, to the Pokétch Company in the northwest, and the prestigious Trainer School at the city center—everywhere had its own claim to fame.
Right now, August was standing at the entrance of the TV station.
Platinum looked up curiously at the towering building, wondering why they were here.
She didn’t ask, though.
August approached the front desk. “I’m looking for Miss Anabel. Tell her an old travel companion from ten years ago is here to see her.”
Then he and Platinum found seats and waited.
She watched him from the corner of her eye.
August noticed, smiled, and said, “Wondering why I’m here?”
Platinum nodded. She was also curious about who this “Anabel” person was.
Ten years ago? But Mr. August would’ve barely been a teenager then…
August chuckled. “It’s just a contact phrase.”
Contact phrase?
Immediately, Platinum began imagining those TV shows about secret agents and spies.
She unconsciously mimed holding a gun with her fingers.
While she was caught in her fantasy, August’s voice brought her back.
“You were totally pretending to be a spy just now.”
“No, I wasn’t.”
She snapped her hands back to her lap and resumed her usual elegant posture.
“But you were—”
“You must be mistaken, Mr. August.”
Staring at her perfectly composed face, August could only laugh.
Before he could tease her more, the elevator dinged.
Out stepped a young woman in a blazer, glasses perched on her nose, a badge clipped to her chest.
Guided by the receptionist, she approached.
“Hello, I’m Anabel… And you are…?”
“Ten years ago… Clefairy and Jigglypuff… The night was lovely…”
August recited the cringe-worthy code phrase while silently cursing whoever in the Sinnoh division had come up with it.
If this were Kanto, I’d have reassigned that guy to the water cooler.
A stifled laugh escaped nearby.
He turned—Platinum looked utterly serious, as if she hadn’t just laughed.
“You—”
“It wasn’t me,” she said instantly.
“But—”
“Not me.”
“…”
Anabel had finished verifying his identity.
“There’s a café nearby. Shall we talk there?”
August nodded, and the three of them left the TV station.
Behind them, the receptionist scratched their head.
What kind of relationship do those three even have...?
...
At the café, in a private room
Now fully briefed, Anabel gave a respectful nod. “Field agent 8128 reporting, sir.”
“No need to stand on ceremony,” August replied casually. “I just have some questions.”
She relaxed slightly. “Yes, sir—ask anything.”
As a field agent based in Jubilife, Anabel was well-versed in the city’s intelligence.
“Do you know the location of the Pokémon Hunter Association in Hearthome?”
He wasn’t a petty man—but when he said he’d teach Hunter J a lesson, he meant it.
Since J was elusive, he planned to start with the Hunter Association.
“I do. But sir… are you planning to move against them?” Anabel hesitated.
“Why?”
“The Hunter Association has ties to some of the local elite. If you go after them, you might face resistance…”
These connections were deep-rooted.
The reason Pokémon Hunters had persisted for so long wasn’t a lack of effort by the League—but because of powerful buyers shielding them.
Usually, they’d go after the hunters, but leave the Association alone.
August smiled. “Don’t worry. I won’t cause trouble for us. They won’t dare make trouble for me.”
Hunter Associations?
He’d cleared out how many in Kanto?
And as for powerful backers seeking revenge?
He was still standing, wasn’t he?
Anabel, thinking August was just going for an intel check, felt reassured. “The Association’s in the southwest district. The exact address is…”
August memorized it, then asked:
“Any signs of Galactic activity in Jubilife lately?”
“They’ve been lingering near the TV station. Looks like they’re planning something, but we don’t have enough staff to investigate more deeply.”
Then she paused.
“Sir… is it true the entire Sinnoh division was wiped out by Galactic?”
Though there’d been no official announcement, she’d heard through her own channels—and the thought had haunted her ever since.
“Not entirely,” August said.
Relieved, she started to breathe again—
“…We’ve still got Looker.”
“…..”
Her vision dimmed. She nearly fainted.
So the entire division really is down to just one guy?!
Seeing her reaction, August adopted a more commanding tone.
“Chin up. I’ll bring them back.”
Still, Anabel couldn’t help but worry.
It was Team Galactic, after all. Even the combined might of the Sinnoh division and League had struggled against them.
And now August was saying he’d rescue their captured agents?
Only now did she realize—she didn’t actually know who this “superior officer” was, beyond a code phrase.
She looked up. “Sir… may I ask your name?”
August blinked. “I figured you’d recognized me already…”
“…Sir?”
“Head of the Kanto Division. August.”
He said it plainly—but with weight.
And Anabel froze.
