The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [345]

“...?”

Jiu, the spirit of the Dragon-Queller Tree, frowned in confusion.

An Ancient Geovishap… crying out in such anguish?

Even if it were defeated in battle, this wasn’t a sound it should make.

Her kin, her loyal subject—how could it have been overpowered? And by whom? Mere mortals? Impossible.

The only ones capable of attacking her kin had to be Morax and his adepti. Who else could it possibly be?

“Morax!!!”

Rage overtook Jiu, drowning out any semblance of rationality.

She should have remained still, allowing her revival to proceed undisturbed, but her fury drove her to act. She raced toward the source of the mournful cry without hesitation.

---

The ruins where the Ancient Geovishap lay were shrouded in thick smoke, obscuring everything from sight.

High above, Paimon fluttered anxiously. She couldn’t see what was happening below, only hearing the faint echoes of combat and glimpsing flashes of light through the haze.

“Do you think Mr. Jax and the Traveler are okay…?” Paimon fretted.

Her calculations were failing her—if one Hilichurl equaled three wild boars, and Paimon in armor equaled one-quarter of a wild boar, how many armored Paimons would it take to match the strength of the giant lizard below?

She shook her head. Math won’t save them now.

“I hope they’re okay…” she muttered, too frightened to descend and risk getting caught in the chaos.

Fortunately, her fears didn’t last long.

The sounds of battle gradually subsided, the flashes of light becoming less frequent. The thick smoke began to thin, revealing the aftermath of the battle below.

There, lying motionless on the ground, was the Ancient Geovishap, its massive form pinned beneath Lumine’s Geo constructs. The once-mighty creature had no strength left to resist.

Jia Changjiang stood before the dragon, wiping blood from his mouth and nose. His shield had absorbed most of the blows, but a few strikes had left him with minor injuries.

Nothing he couldn’t handle—especially considering the monumental victory.

“Traveler! Mr. Jax!” Paimon flew down excitedly. “You guys are okay, right?”

“Just some scratches,” Jia Changjiang replied, brushing her concern aside. He turned to the defeated dragon, his eyes gleaming with intent. “Now, the only question is… what do we do with this thing?”

Raising his black lance, Jia Changjiang approached the subdued creature. Lumine, gripping her [Festering Desire] sword, followed silently.

“This beast is huge. If I use my sword to finish it, maybe its power will make the weapon even stronger…” she mused.

Though the [Festering Desire]  had lost its resonance outside Dragonspine, its ability to store energy remained intact, making it invaluable for situations like this.

The two began circling the dragon, searching for the best spot to strike. But before they could act, a small figure materialized in front of them, standing between the hunters and their prey.

It was the blue-haired girl from before.

With her appearance, the Geo constructs binding the dragon disintegrated, crumbling into dust. Lumine froze in surprise.

“What the—?! You’re the girl from under the tree!”

Jiu stared at them for a moment before her expression twisted in fury. “You again?! How dare you!”

“Ohhh!” Lumine exclaimed, pointing at Jiu. “You’re the little girl under the big tree! Wait…”

She tilted her head in thought. “You disappeared so suddenly… and you were just standing there under that tree…”

Then her eyes lit up as if she’d solved a great mystery.

“I get it!” she said, clapping her hands together. “You’re the spirit of the tree, aren’t you? The little tree spirit protecting this place!”

“...What?”

Jiu’s anger was briefly replaced by utter confusion.

Tree spirit? What nonsense was this? She was a manifestation of the Dragon King’s power, not some whimsical forest sprite!

“You… are followers of Morax, aren’t you?” Jiu’s eyes narrowed as she scrutinized the pair.

Surely, only Morax’s followers could have subdued her kin. But the more she observed them, the less sense it made. They had no Vision, no adeptal aura… How could mere mortals achieve this?

“Followers? No way,” Jia Changjiang replied casually. “We’re not even from Liyue.”

“Anyway, little girl, step aside. That dragon behind you? It’s my prey.”

“Your… prey?”

Jiu’s fury reignited. Her kin—her loyal subject—was being treated like a mere beast to hunt? Who did this mortal think he was?

“Jax, stop talking,” Lumine interrupted, lowering herself slightly to meet Jiu’s gaze. “I think I understand what’s going on here.”

She glanced at the defeated dragon. “This big guy… it’s your friend, isn’t it? You rushed here from the tree to save it, right?”

Jiu’s expression wavered, her confusion growing.

Friend? What nonsense was this girl spouting now? The Ancient Geovishap wasn’t her friend—it was her subject.

“I think we should let this dragon go,” Lumine said, turning to Jia Changjiang.

“If we let it go, how are we supposed to report back to the Adventurers’ Guild?” he protested. “And what if it causes another earthquake later?”

“Then we’ll leave it to the tree spirit!” Lumine declared, grabbing Jiu’s hand. “If this dragon promises to behave, we’ll let it live, right?”

She gave Jiu a determined look.

“Tree spirit, you can make your friend behave, can’t you?”
