Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [129]

Agatha was surprised to hear August volunteer so readily.

No wonder both Lance and Bruno spoke so highly of him. His natural sense of responsibility alone already placed him far above 99% of Kanto’s new-generation trainers.

However…

“I told you to wait, not just because of the enraged Ghost Pokémon inside Pokémon Tower,” Agatha said.

“Oh?”

August’s curiosity was piqued. There was another reason?

Agatha didn’t keep him guessing. “If it were just aggressive Ghost Pokémon, it would take some effort, but my Gengar army could handle them.”

“No—the real reason I sealed off Pokémon Tower is because I sensed a disturbance from the Ghost World.

“The Ghost World?” Blue’s eyes widened. “You mean it actually exists?”

According to legend, when people pass away, their souls enter the Ghost World. But most dismissed it as just a myth.

Agatha, unfazed by Blue’s skepticism, tapped her cane lightly against the floor, her expression tinged with reminiscence.

“The Ghost World is very real. It is a forbidden domain of life—only spirits can enter.”

“I first encountered my Gengar at an entrance to the Ghost World. The experience was… not one I’d care to relive.

As she spoke, a purple shadow rose from beneath her, forming into a grinning Gengar that playfully stuck out its tongue at August and Blue.

Agatha smiled as she patted Gengar’s head, but there was a subtle shift in her expression—clearly, whatever happened back then was not a fond memory.

Even as a Ghost-type specialist, she had no intention of meddling with anything related to the Ghost World.

“So, my advice is… you should wait,” Agatha said.

Hearing this, Eevee clung tightly to August’s clothes, nodding furiously.

It absolutely did not want to go to Pokémon Tower.

But August, on the other hand, was deeply intrigued.

He lifted his head and smiled. “Lady Agatha, wouldn’t that be even more reason to investigate?”

“If Pokémon Tower has somehow opened a pathway to the Ghost World, then it’s a problem that needs to be addressed.”

Agatha paused, studying August for a long moment.

For a split second, she thought she saw a glimpse of a young Professor Oak in him.

Finally, she let out a sigh. “If you insist on going, I won’t stop you.”

“Follow me.”

With that, she turned and walked toward the exit, her Gengar trailing behind her. Every now and then, it would stick out its tongue at August and Blue, hoping to startle them.

Unfortunately, neither of them were fazed in the slightest.

That was disappointing.

But then Gengar noticed something much more amusing—Eevee, still cowering in August’s arms.

All it had to do was let out a single eerie chuckle, and Eevee immediately trembled in response.

That was much more satisfying.

...

The path from Agatha’s estate to Pokémon Tower was short.

By the time they arrived, yellow caution tape had already been set up around the perimeter, and several mediums—clad in traditional spirit-channeling robes and holding divination flags—were stationed at the entrance.

Upon seeing Agatha, they immediately approached.

“Lady Agatha!”

Clearly, these people were her subordinates.

“How is the situation in Pokémon Tower?” Agatha asked.

“As per your instructions, we reinforced the seals. Things have somewhat calmed down inside, but… a few Ghost Pokémon still manage to escape from time to time,” the lead medium reported, looking ashamed.

“I see. Remove the seal on the entrance.”

The mediums were taken aback.

Undoing the barrier now would mean that all of their efforts thus far had been for nothing—right?

But Agatha gave no explanation. Instead, she gestured toward a Gengar, then turned to August.

“This one knows Pokémon Tower’s layout well. It will guide you.”

“But—” she added, her voice heavy with warning, “do not trust everything you see in there.”

At her words, everyone’s eyes shifted to August.

Wait… Was he seriously planning to go inside?

Was he insane?

Or—

A bold thought crossed their minds.

August simply smiled. “Leave it to me.”

The mediums watched in stunned silence as the seals were peeled off, and August stepped through the entrance, accompanied by Blue, Eevee, and Gengar.

They could only watch as his figure was gradually swallowed by the thick mist seeping from within—until he disappeared entirely.

One of the mediums hesitated before speaking. “…Lady Agatha?”

Agatha glanced at their uneasy faces and immediately knew what they were thinking.

They were worried. August was still young—and he had brought an even younger companion along. Could they really handle what lurked inside?

But if August were just another ordinary young trainer, would Lance be so eager to praise him?

“Just wait and see,” she said, her own curiosity piqued.

How would August handle this situation?

---

As soon as they stepped inside, Blue felt a chill creep up her spine.

“…It’s freezing.”

Pulling out her communicator, which had a built-in temperature sensor, she fiddled with it before turning to August. “The temperature just dropped by ten degrees.

“That’s normal,” August replied. “Ghost Pokémon tend to cause temperature drops wherever they gather. By that logic, judging from the temperature change, there are at least ten of them around us.”

With that, he released Gardevoir.

Eevee was… not exactly reliable in this situation.

“Are you serious?”

Blue frowned and adjusted her scanner goggles before putting them on to check for Ghost-types.

Thirty seconds later—

She ripped them off, her face pale.

The moment she had activated them, she had seen something she knew she wouldn’t be forgetting anytime soon.

A massive swarm of Ghost Pokémon, packed tightly together, filling the space in front of August.

Blue swallowed. “You… knew this already?”

“Of course. I sensed them the second we walked in.”

The sheer number of [Aura] signatures was impossible to miss—he would have had to be blind not to notice them.

But this meant…

The situation inside Pokémon Tower was even worse than what Agatha had predicted.

As he focused, he sensed a movement approaching—

A Haunter had already drifted into Gardevoir’s psychic field.

Bad timing for you, buddy.

Before it could even react, Gardevoir sent it crashing into the ground with a single [Psychic] blast.

One Haunter was easy enough to deal with.

Even if a few more showed up, Gardevoir could handle them effortlessly.

But…

There were too many.

And just as he had expected—

The moment Gardevoir attacked, the mist within Pokémon Tower began to seethe.

As if they had disturbed a hornet’s nest, the air grew heavy with movement.

And then—

From within the thick fog—

Countless glowing red eyes opened, one by one.
