Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [312]

Ruins of the Original Spear Pillar

The group who had just arrived at the former site of Spear Pillar stood in stunned silence.

None looked more shaken than Platinum, a native of Sinnoh.

As a member of the Berlitz family, Platinum came from a long lineage with a tradition: once a child reached a certain age, they would ascend Mt. Coronet to mine for rare ore, using it to craft their personal family crest.

This time, Platinum had come to Spear Pillar for exactly that reason—to find the ore she needed.

She even had a detailed map, hand-drawn by her father, marking the precise locations of promising mineral deposits.

But now…

Looking out over the flattened ruins—parts of which had even crystallized from the force of explosions and impact—Platinum couldn’t find a single recognizable landmark. Her carefully planned journey had fallen apart.

She crouched down, hugging her head, completely disheartened.

After a moment of brooding, her Piplup stepped forward and gave her a few words of encouragement.

Reinvigorated, Platinum pulled out a shovel from her backpack, picked a random spot, and began to dig—mimicking the ore miners she’d once observed in Oreburgh City.

The others exchanged glances: What is she even doing...?

Diamond stared, then suddenly balled his hand into a fist and smacked it into his open palm. “I got it!”

Pearl blinked. “Got what?!”

Wait—did Diamond really understand Platinum’s behavior?

Diamond declared, “She must’ve come to Mt. Coronet to mine for ore! That’s why she was secretly practicing mining techniques in Oreburgh Mine!”

Smack!

Pearl whacked him with a rolled-up newspaper. “Is that what you’re focusing on right now?!”

“Pfft—”

Silver burst out laughing.

Catching their looks, he added, “Didn’t expect the two of you to have real comedic chops… You said your inspiration was The Red Gyarados at Lake of Rage, right? How about heading to Johto and seeing the real thing for yourselves?”

“The real Lake of Rage?”

Both of them lit up with curiosity.

Meanwhile, Gary had already slid over to August.

The moment he spotted Sird, he let out the same startled gasp Zinnia had earlier. “So this is where Sird ended up!”

“Spit it out,” August muttered impatiently.

“It’s nothing serious. I just want to, uh... take a couple of photos of Dialga and Palkia. For my own collection.”

Photos? So he can show off to Ash.

August saw straight through him and let out a cold snort. Still, he raised his hand and released both Dialga and Palkia.

Too soft, as always.

“They’re massive! So powerful! So cool!”

“Wait—why’s Palkia’s face swollen? And why is Dialga just sitting on the ground? Shouldn’t it be standing up?”

August glanced at Gary, who remained blissfully unaware of the two legendaries glaring murderously at him.

Sometimes ignorance really is bliss, August remarked to Blue.

Blue nodded in solemn agreement.

After handing over the remaining Galactic members—Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter included—to Sinnoh League Trainers, August returned to his base with the Kanto division, bringing along Cyrus and Sird.

He gave a clear look to make sure someone kept an eye on Cyrus.

Then he eagerly turned his attention to interrogating Sird.

Hunter J’s former interrogation chamber—or rather, August’s now.

Sird slowly regained consciousness. In the haze of waking, she thought she saw August standing before her.

She shook her head, trying to dispel the fog.

Darkrai really is too unstable...
These nightmares are only getting worse...

She raised a hand, trying to summon Darkrai to break the illusion.

But no matter how long she called, August remained standing in front of her.

“You looking for this?” August asked, gesturing.

Mewtwo stepped forward, dragging an unconscious Darkrai—tightly bound by the [Red Chains]—like a ragdoll.

Sird jolted upright, instantly alert.

A flood of memories surged through her.

Spear Pillar... the Distortion World... Giratina...

“You’re really August?”

“Who, me?” August blinked. “Nah, I’m not August. Who am I? Don’t tell me Giratina scrambled your brain that badly?”

Sird: “.....”

That tone—unmistakably August.

No, she wasn’t in a nightmare.

This was worse.

August folded his arms. “Looks like you’re awake. You’re a smart one—I’m sure you realize what kind of situation you’re in. I ask, you answer.”

“First question: why did you suddenly show up at Spear Pillar?”

“And what happens if I don’t answer?” Sird asked cautiously.

August gave a pleasant smile. “Why don’t you guess?”

Sird really didn’t want to guess.

Knowing August as well as she did, she had already resigned herself the moment she realized she was in his custody.

She shifted into a more comfortable position.

“I don’t know the full story. I was observing the battle from the Distortion World when Giratina suddenly grabbed me—I lost consciousness after that. If I had to guess, it probably just dropped me at Spear Pillar.”

She was still confused. Giratina had definitely taken her—so how had she ended up with August?

August, meanwhile, was also lost in thought—though for a different reason.

Why had Giratina done it?

Cleaning up loose ends? Messing around for fun? Or maybe it liked him after he captured Dialga and Palkia?

Hard to say.

But whatever the reason, it worked out. And now…

He pulled out his phone. “Smile!”

Sird flinched. “...What are you doing?”

“Giovanni blocked me last time. If I send him this, maybe it’ll make him laugh and unblock me.”

Without hesitation, August snapped a photo of her—and the unconscious Darkrai.

Sird: “.....”

Watching August take pictures of her like it was some tourist attraction, she genuinely wished Giratina had knocked her brain loose.

Kanto – Sevii Islands Rocket Base

Giovanni sat in his office, stroking Persian, feeling unusually refreshed.

After months of decline, Team Rocket had finally stabilized.

The Deoxys Project was proceeding smoothly—success was within sight.

And all of it, he firmly believed, was thanks to one decision:

Blocking August.

It sounded absurd, but he was convinced.

Before August’s interference, Rocket’s influence stretched across Kanto and Johto. Even the League avoided them. They were thriving.

Then August showed up.

Executives were arrested or defected. League raids dissolved their territories. Mewtwo—his prized creation—was stolen moments after its birth. The organization barely survived.

If someone documented the past six months of Team Rocket, it would read like a tragedy.

But ever since the block, things were looking up...

So yes. Blocking August had been the right call.

“Once the Deoxys Project is complete... then we’ll make him pay.”

As he stood to check the lab’s progress, his phone buzzed.

[System Notification: 'Silver' has sent you a friend request.]

Giovanni froze, a strange feeling creeping into his chest.

Back at the base:

“You really think Giovanni’s gonna fall for this?” Sabrina asked.

He wasn’t stupid. August had already tricked him once using Silver—it had cost him dearly. Would he really fall for the same trick again?

“Oh? Care to bet?” August smiled.

Sabrina had once been a Rocket executive. She prided herself on knowing Giovanni inside out. She smirked confidently. “Fine. If Giovanni doesn’t fall for it, you owe me... three favors.”

“Three’s a bit much. I’ll do it for one.”

“One?” Sabrina eyed him suspiciously. He’s definitely planning something weird...

Just as the thought crossed her mind—ding!

August held up his phone.

Clear as day: Giovanni has accepted Silver’s friend request.

Sabrina: “...He really fell for it?!”

A trap that simple—and Giovanni walked right into it?

Was it even really him?

August leaned in cheerfully. “Don’t forget our bet…”

Sabrina: “.....”

August left her alone for now.

He opened his settings.

[System Notification: Your nickname has been changed from ‘Silver’ to ‘GardevoirSupremacy.’]

Then he sent the photos.

[GardevoirSupremacy: (Image)(Image)(Image) Just caught Sird. Let’s trade her for a Deoxys and a spot off the blocklist. Seems fair, right?]

[System Notification: You have been blocked by Giovanni.]

“Tch. No sense of humor anymore.”

Tossing his phone aside, August rubbed his chin.

“Maybe next time I’ll have the real Silver add him. Then film the whole process—his own son getting brutally rejected by his father—and send that to Giovanni.”

Sabrina fell silent.

August’s shamelessness wasn’t just consistent—it was innovative.

She’d barely scratched the surface.

He was in a league of his own.

...

With the events of Mt. Coronet concluded, and both their leader and executives captured, Team Galactic was effectively finished.

During the confusion, the International Police also rescued their captured agents from Veilstone HQ.

August handed off the mop-up operation to the Sinnoh League. He’d already cleaned up the bulk of the mess—he wasn’t about to do everything.

Two peaceful days passed.

Then came a new arrival at the base:

“League Special Committee for the Investigation and Preservation of Spear Pillar Ruins.”

August raised a brow. “What, did they make the name longer so people take it seriously?”

Beside him, Cynthia frowned.

“I didn’t think the League Council would get involved personally…”

She’d hoped to suppress the incident using her Champion status. After all, August had arguably saved Sinnoh.

But now that the matter had reached the Council’s level, it wasn’t so simple.

With no better option, she and August prepared to meet the investigators.

...

Conference Room—

“The ancient ruins at Spear Pillar were severely damaged. As a key figure in the incident, Mr. August, do you have any insight into who was responsible?”

The investigator’s uniform was crisp, his posture polished.

August looked surprised. “Isn’t it obvious? Cyrus, of course!”

The investigator hesitated. “But... according to our forensics, the damage was consistent with Dragon-type moves. Multiple witnesses from surrounding cities reported seeing something resembling Draco Meteor.”

“And from our records, Cyrus doesn’t own any Dragon-types.”

“Your records are outdated. He caught one recently,” August said without missing a beat.

“.....”

Was this man for real?

He spoke the lie with such absurd confidence that the investigator was left speechless.

Turning to Cynthia, he tried another angle.

“Champion Cynthia, can you confirm Mr. August’s statement?”

Cynthia knew she couldn’t undermine August here. She felt guilty betraying her grandmother’s teachings, but turned her head and muttered, “Yes. Cyrus did it.”

“.....”

The investigator felt personally insulted.

If you're going to lie, at least try.

August sold it like a seasoned actor.

Cynthia delivered her line like a bad student caught cheating.

He stared at them for a long moment.

Then gave up.

Fine. Cyrus did it.

What, Cyrus isn’t dead?

Doesn’t matter. With crimes that extreme, locked in an International Police black site, it’s the same thing.

He closed his notebook.

“Thank you both for your cooperation. Investigation complete. The destruction of Spear Pillar is confirmed to be unrelated to either of you. Best of luck in your future endeavors.”

Once he was gone, Cynthia exhaled deeply, hand over her heart. “That was my first time lying. I think... I pulled it off?”

No, August thought. You absolutely did not.

But he wasn’t about to rain on her parade.

“Forget that. Let’s throw a celebration party!”
