Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [326]

“Really? Wouldn’t that be too much trouble for you, August…?” Irida hesitated.

Kleavor was their Pearl Clan noble. Not having protected him properly was already a failure on their part.

August had already provided Pokéblocks—and now he was offering to help in person. Irida truly felt guilty accepting more.

But August just smiled. “It’s no trouble at all. I’ve been curious about Hisui’s nobles and wardens anyway.”

Kamado, standing to the side, didn’t object. In fact, he saw this as the perfect opportunity to further observe August—the mysterious outsider who had already shaken up so much.

As for Adaman, though his Diamond Clan’s philosophies often clashed with Irida’s Pearl Clan, he still welcomed any effort to calm Kleavor.

In the midst of this calm discussion, Gary raised a hand. “Uh… can someone explain what exactly this ‘Kleavor’ is?”

...

Kleavor, the Axe Pokémon—Hisui’s regional evolution of Scyther.

After watching it cleave a tree clean in half from a distance, Indigo League Champion and key Kanto International Police member Gary Oak offered this critical assessment:

“Sure, it’s flashy, but doesn’t seem as cool as Scizor.”

This almost sparked a diplomatic crisis between Team ROcket and the Pearl Clan.

“I’m sorry! I was wrong!!” Gary bowed deeply in apology.

Across from him, Lian—the groundskeeper of the Grandtree Arena and Kleavor’s warden—was still glaring.

“Lian, don’t be mad,” Irida soothed. “He’s not from Hisui. He doesn’t understand what nobles mean to us...”

She turned to explain. “Mr. August and this Gary came to help pacify Kleavor.”

Lian folded his arms. “The golden glow surrounding Kleavor is a gift from the Almighty Sinnoh. Nobles don’t need pacifying.”

He was convinced that Kleavor’s current state was a divine blessing, not something to be treated.

August countered calmly. “But Kleavor doesn’t seem to agree.”

“I can feel the chaos—the agitation pouring off him. Be honest: do you think he wants to be like this?”

He pointed toward Kleavor, who was currently spinning mid-air, twin axes glinting as it chopped a massive tree clean through.

Sensing August’s gaze, Kleavor turned toward him—eyes brimming with fury.

Before Lian could even reply, Kleavor let out a shriek and charged straight toward August like it had found something that provoked it.

“August, look out!”

Irida’s expression shifted instantly.

A noble’s power was immense—and Kleavor, in this berserk state, was at its most dangerous.

“Glaceon—!”

Irida was just about to send in her partner when Kleavor, glowing with gold light, had already closed the distance.

Its gleaming axe was moments away from striking August.

Gardevoir’s eyes lit up with a psychic shimmer—

“Gwaa!”

Suddenly, a Psyduck burst from its Pokéball and threw itself in front of August, its beak intercepting Kleavor’s axe—

Clang!

The sound of metal against metal rang through the clearing.

The recoil sent Psyduck flying into August’s arms. Kleavor stumbled back half a step.

Just half a step.

But Irida and Lian were both stunned.

That seemingly average Psyduck had blocked a blow from a rampaging noble.

Psyduck, dazed in August’s arms, still managed to wave its flipper proudly.

August rubbed the three tufts atop its head. “Good work.”

“Gwaa!” Psyduck beamed.

August looked up, locking eyes with Kleavor.

The bug-type noble stared back.

Their gazes clashed.

And then... something shifted.

Kleavor’s wild expression softened, the rage in its eyes slowly giving way to clarity.

Staring at August, Kleavor raised its axes—and gestured an invitation.

Lian: “!?”

Irida: “!?”

This was supposed to be Kleavor’s first time meeting August.

So why was this berserk noble suddenly so polite toward him?

Even August looked surprised.

I didn’t even use the [Power of Viridian]. Don’t tell me... Arceus is pulling strings behind the scenes?

Following Kleavor’s gesture, August stepped into the clearing.

Kleavor raised one arm. A green [Plate] flew from its grip and embedded itself into a nearby tree.

Klea!

August immediately understood.

“You want me to battle you—and if I win, I get the [Plate]?”

There was something suspiciously ordained about this...

But hey—I came to Hisui. I’m on Arceus’s turf. What else am I gonna do?

August nodded.

But before he could move, Kleavor suddenly lunged forward.

You Hisui Pokémon have no chill!

Thankfully, thanks to his [Aura] abilities, August sensed the strike coming and dodged in time.

He released Slowbro, then grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and hurled it at Kleavor like a projectile.

“Go, Slowbro!”

Just as he shouted, the Shellder clamped on Slowbro’s tail collided with Kleavor’s axe mid-air.

Clang!

Sparks flew.

Slowbro, dazed from being flung like a cannonball, blinked and finally caught up to what was happening.

With a weary sigh, it drew in a breath and fired a blast of water at the golden insect—

[Water Pulse]

The rippling water struck Kleavor, causing it to flinch slightly.

But Kleavor quickly recovered and charged forward, axes flashing again.

Clang!

Slowbro once more used the Shellder on its tail as a shield.

It glanced at August pleadingly.

I can’t handle this guy alone! Call in Gardevoir already!

August refused.

If Gardevoir has to step in for everything, what was the point of bringing you here?

“Watch closely. There’s a tiny windup when Kleavor swings downward—if you catch that, you can dodge its attacks.”

Though Kleavor’s power and speed had been boosted by the golden energy, the raw strength overloaded its movements, disrupting its technique.

That was the opening.

Slowbro focused, paying close attention—and sure enough, there it was: a brief hitch before the swing.

It shifted sideways—and dodged cleanly.

With August’s guidance, Slowbro stopped going toe-to-toe and started playing it smart—agile and reactive...

Hard to believe “agile” and “Slowbro” are even in the same sentence, but hey, here we are.

Whatever worked—Slowbro now smoothly dodged attack after attack.

From the sidelines, Lian watched in disbelief.

The noble he so admired—Kleavor—was being outmaneuvered.

By a single Slowbro.

It was unthinkable.

Gary, noticing Lian’s expression, puffed out his chest. “Hmph, this is nothing! Back when August and I faced down Rayquaza, even that beast ended up submitting.”

“Rayquaza?”

Lian and Irida turned to Gary, seeing him in a new light.

So this scruffy-haired boy was capable of fighting something like Rayquaza?

As Gary continued spinning tales of his “shared” victory with August over Rayquaza, the battle raged on.

Though Slowbro had adapted to Kleavor’s patterns, the noble’s golden aura remained a problem. It made Kleavor almost impervious to damage.

According to the usual flow of events, August should’ve thrown balms right about now—but he didn’t have any.

Instead, he pulled a type-specialized Pokéblock from his belt—one designed for bug-types—and tossed it at Kleavor.

The moment it hit, the block exploded into a fine powder that merged with the golden aura surrounding Kleavor.

The light flickered.

“Just as I thought,” August murmured.

In the original story, the balms used to calm nobles were made from food they liked—infused with a particular scent.

So if that worked, there was no reason Pokéblocks—crafted with precise blends and higher-quality ingredients—wouldn’t.

“Let’s keep going.”

He continued hurling Pokéblocks, each one striking Kleavor and sending shimmering ripples across its golden armor.

Bit by bit, the glow dimmed. Kleavor grew increasingly agitated—but could do nothing to break through Slowbro’s perfect defense.

[Double Hit]. [Air Slash]. Blocked each time by the Shellder-shield.

[Stealth Rock] burst from the ground around Slowbro—but with base 110 defense and its use of [Iron Defense], it barely flinched.

No matter how frenzied Kleavor became, it couldn't get past the wall between it and August.

And then—finally—

BOOM!

The golden light burst apart.

Kleavor was back to its true form.

Now’s the chance!

[Surf], Slowbro!”

Water surged around its feet and rose into a towering wave.

Kleavor, caught off-guard and momentarily frozen from the backlash, couldn’t move.

Crashhh!

The wave slammed Kleavor into the Grandtree Arena’s central sacred tree—

THUMP!

The impact rocked the battlefield.

As the water receded, Kleavor tumbled from the tree and landed hard, catching itself with one arm. It dropped to one knee.

“I win,” August said calmly. “As promised, I’ll be taking that [Plate].”
