Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [12]

The girl took up residence in the sanctuary.

She lived a life of utmost simplicity, leaving only once a day to gather wild fruits and berries to fill her stomach.

The rest of her time was spent within the sanctuary, kneeling devoutly before the white dragon statue, praying from the depths of her heart.

In front of the statue, she had also laid out heaps of carefully selected fruits—offerings she’d gathered with painstaking care. She gave the best she could find to the divine being, hoping that it might soon respond to her prayers.

But no such response came.

A week passed. Not once did she catch sight of that ethereal white dragon.

Wenna was disheartened.

She began to think that perhaps prayer alone wasn’t enough—she had to do something for the divine one to truly earn its attention.

“But… what can I do for it?”

Inside the sanctuary, Wenna frowned deeply, torn by indecision.

Then, suddenly, from outside came the sound of light footsteps—and an unmistakably cheerful voice calling out.

“Bluey? Bluey?”

That open, unreserved voice made Wenna’s heart skip a beat.

Oh no!

She immediately assumed her people had returned, trying to seek out the dragon god.

I have to stop them—before they anger the dragon!

Not wanting to see her people die before her eyes, she rushed to the sanctuary’s entrance and pushed the heavy stone door open just a crack.

“There’s no Bluey here, so please leave at onc—huh?!”

“…?!”

...

Wenna stepped outside and stared in astonishment at the scene before her.

—Not the crowd of villagers she’d imagined.

Instead, a blonde… girl? stood alone on the emerald-green grass, looking at her with bright, curious eyes.

The girl’s emerald irises and the oddly bouncing ahoge on her head—now bent into a question mark—left quite an impression.

Wenna, in turn, regarded the unexpected visitor with curiosity, quietly wondering how she knew about Bluey, and what sort of connection she might have with him.

But the curiosity lasted no more than a second.

Because the moment she took a closer look at the blonde girl, a terrifying pressure suddenly emanated from her. A regal, overwhelming dragon’s aura swept across the hillside—engulfing Wenna, who had no idea what was happening.

In that instant, Wenna felt like a single leaf caught in a raging sea—on the verge of being swallowed whole.

What… what is this?

Gripped by dread, she dared not meet the blonde girl’s eyes and immediately lowered her head.

In truth, she’d nearly collapsed onto the ground then and there—but for some reason, just as her legs were about to give out, another force stirred within her. It propped her up, lending her just enough strength to keep standing.

But what truly saved her was a light, lilting dragon’s roar that rang out from above.

“Awooo—”

A white figure dove down from the cliff above.

It caught Artoria’s attention—and at the same time, the pressure Wenna had been under suddenly vanished.

So… she’s a dragon too?

No wonder… no wonder…

Watching the white and red dragons embrace, Wenna clutched her chest, gasping for breath.

Only now did she truly grasp the difference between dragons and humans.

—They didn’t even need to lift a claw.

A single glance was enough to take her life.

Artoria hadn’t seen Bluey in over two months.

Though two months wasn’t long by dragon standards… ever since he was born, it was the longest he’d gone without seeing her.

And the longer the separation, the sweeter the reunion.

“Wait, there’s no rain here? That was you?”

“That’s amazing!”

Bluey proudly recounted how he’d flown into the sky and used his power to drive away the storm clouds.

Artoria’s eyes widened in surprise, then an intrigued look crossed her pretty face.

“So that’s possible too, huh?”

Clearly, a few scheming thoughts had begun to take root.

As a dragon of wind attribute, she couldn’t scatter clouds with light the way Bluey did—but blowing them away with wind? That shouldn’t be too hard, right?

“And what about that girl? What’s her deal?”

Artoria had, of course, noticed Wenna’s presence.

In fact, Wenna was slightly older than her. But for some reason, whenever Artoria faced her, she always felt like she was the elder.

“She… hmm, she and her people ate my fish and then refused to leave.”

Bluey, who just moments ago had been full of joy, suddenly grew cold.

His explanation was vague and indifferent—his tone barely concealing his contempt for the girl who had received his blessing and yet lingered.

Artoria was surprised.

“So dragon blood can do that?”

“What about her now? Is she still human? What does she plan to do?”

She looked over at the girl who stood awkwardly to the side, head lowered, trying her best to stay invisible.

To be honest, Artoria felt uneasy.

She’d suddenly realized—this might’ve been Bluey’s first real encounter with humans. And the impression they’d left… was far from good.

That wasn’t a good sign at all.

As the destined King of Britain, she didn’t expect Bluey to love humanity the way she did. But at the very least… he shouldn’t grow to hate them.

I’ll need to find a way to expose him to more people… shift his view of them somehow.

Maybe… this girl could be a good place to start?

With that thought, she glanced again at the girl beside them—silent, withdrawn, and clearly trying not to draw attention.

And Artoria realized—

This might just be a good opportunity.
