Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [333]

“Eevee… is my fan?”

Iono’s brain lagged for a second as August’s words registered.

She had fans all over the world, sure. But a Pokémon fan? This was a first.

To prove it, August pulled out a tablet Eevee often used to watch streams and brought up the viewer list.

Staring at the familiar usernames and avatars—

‘EeveeBuiBuiBui’?

Wait. That’s… that’s one of my captains?!

It really was Eevee!

Seeing the stunned look on Iono’s face, the stream chat exploded.

[Come on, Iono, you’re an Electric-type streamer. Of course you’ve got an Eevee fan.]

[Streamer, I’m actually Zapdos in disguise. I just need 50 bucks to complete my ticket to the Battle Frontier. V me and I’ll help you beat Geeta and become Paldea’s #1 Champ!]

[Believe that guy’s Zapdos, and you probably also believe Raikou has a Paldean form.]

As usual, the chat quickly went off the rails.

Iono was long used to their nonsense by now.

Meanwhile, August continued introducing the people at the table. “You already know Cynthia. This is Sabrina, the Gym Leader from Kanto’s Saffron Gym.”

“G-Gym Leader?!” At those words, Iono visibly stiffened.

Chat was delighted.

[PTSD mode: ON]

[Quick, someone warn Sabrina to run!]

August wasn’t done.

“This is Blue, Courtney, Sabrina again, and that’s Simp—er, Zinnia.”

Zinnia: “?”

Excuse me? Did you just almost call me a simp?

August pretended not to notice her glare and carried on as if nothing had happened.

“As for me—August. Just a regular Trainer who’s entered the World Championships. Nothing much to say.”

Everyone at the table, including Cynthia, collectively rolled their eyes.

You? Regular?

Sure. And I’m a Magikarp with a PhD.

But Iono didn’t know August well. She only thought: Anyone who can sit at the same table as Cynthia can’t be just “ordinary.”

Still pondering, she heard August say, “Come on, sit with us!”

Startled by the invitation, Iono sat down, flustered.

This was supposed to be an interview, not a shared meal! She wasn’t ready for this!

Thankfully, her Pikachu Zzzap-Zzzap sundae was delivered just then.

To mask her nerves, Iono grabbed a spoon and scooped a giant mouthful into her mouth before anyone could stop her.

Everyone at the table stared.

Before Iono could wonder why, a jolt of icy numbness shot straight from her mouth to the top of her skull.

Then August’s voice drifted over belatedly: “Oh, right… the Pokémon-themed ice cream here’s got a zing. You’re supposed to eat it slowly.”

Too late.

Iono trembled, her voice shaky: “M-my tongue… is frozen… I’ve become a numb, shivering little fish…”

It took her a while to recover.

When she finally glanced at chat again, they were thrilled.

[Iono, you were born to be a streamer.]

[This girl’s whole life is pure content.]

[“Double-Dodo Ice” just tipped ¥1000: I want to see you eat three bites in a row!]

These people aren’t here to watch—they’re here to watch chaos!

But Iono was a veteran.

She adjusted quickly and slipped into pro-mode. “Miss Cynthia, would it be alright if I asked you a few questions?”

Cynthia smiled. “Just call me Cynthia. Go ahead.”

“You came to the Battle Frontier so early—are you preparing for the Masters Tournament?”

“Not the Masters Tournament,” Cynthia replied. “The opening exhibition match. You didn’t know?”

Iono blinked. “I just arrived… Haven’t had a chance to talk to staff yet.”

She had heard there would be an exhibition match but hadn’t known who was participating. That Cynthia would be one of the two Trainers?

“Actually, it’s not just me,” Cynthia added. “August here is my opponent. And, well… he watches your stream too.”

“Eh!? Mr. August watches my stream too?!” Whatever shyness she had left evaporated. “What’s your username?”

August just smiled and said nothing. He pulled out his phone and opened the streaming app.

Using his preloaded balance, he sent a superchat.

[SlackingAtWorkAgain]: Hello, Iono!

“Ehh—!?”

Iono’s jaw dropped. Her wide eyes said it all.

He’s the one?!

The legendary viewer who’d captured several rogue Gym Leaders live on stream. The one responsible for her getting dubbed the “Gym Leader Black Hole.” That was him?!

Chat had already gone into meltdown.

[Unreal! ‘SlackingAtWorkAgain’ is so young?!]

[Young, powerful, high-ranking, chats with Cynthia like it’s nothing… Disgusting. This guy’s a winner in life.]

[Quick! Grab his coattails and hold on for dear life!]

The stream was full of chaos, but Iono wasn’t paying attention.

She was focused on something else—something that could affect her future.

After a long, awkward silence, she finally asked in a tiny voice:

“Mr. August… You’re not going to… arrest me, are you?”

August: “?”

“Pffft!”

Zinnia burst out laughing.

August sighed, rubbing his temple. “Where did you even get that idea?”

You’d think I go around randomly throwing innocent people in jail…

“Really?”

“Why would I lie?”

Whether or not Iono believed him, one thing was certain—Sabrina mocked August for that all afternoon.

Not until Iono left to meet with staff about the next day’s commentary schedule and August returned to the villa did the teasing stop.

Gary and the others had just come back too.

“So, how’s the Battle Frontier feel to you?” August asked, lounging on the couch. One hand idly rubbed Mew’s soft belly; the other toyed with Eevee’s fluffy tail.

He didn’t expect much from Gary, but he still gave him a chance to speak first.

Gary struck a serious pose. “Big. Bustling!”

“…And?”

August waited. Nothing came.

“You walked around all day and that’s all you noticed?”

Gary looked confused. “Isn’t that enough?”

August: “…Never mind. As long as you had fun.”

Turning to Silver, he raised a brow. Now this one’s more reliable…

Silver nodded. “I noticed what might be traces of Team Rocket. Small numbers. Based on how they moved, I’d say Giovanni just sent scouts—no full-scale activity.”

“I’ve taken pictures. We can act anytime. My suggestion: observe for now.”

Gary looked completely lost.

Team Rocket? I was with him all day—when did that happen?

“Speaking of shady groups…” Gold chimed in. “I think I saw the Flare Team emblem. Only caught a glimpse, though. Couldn’t be sure.”

“We saw it too!” Pearl and Diamond chimed in. “Gold-senpai’s right—it was a woman!”

They even gave a rough description.

“I spotted some Magma Team insignia too,” said Courtney, blowing a bubble. “Probably the remnants trying something dumb after Maxie got caught. Leave it to me.”

That’s when Gary realized…

He was the only one who found absolutely nothing.

No way. I was the clown this whole time?!

At long last, the World Championships Opening Ceremony began.

Because the Battle Frontier couldn’t host enough spectators, Scott—loaded as ever—had built an entire new arena on the nearby field.

Tens of thousands of people filled the massive stadium, all eyes on Scott as he gave his opening remarks.

But Scott, knowing how today’s youth think, didn’t ramble. After a quick hello, he handed things over to the host.

“And now, I officially declare the World Championships open!”

“Please welcome our two special guests for the opening match!”

“First, the Champion of Sinnoh and this year’s title favorite—Cynthia!”

Cheers and applause erupted as Cynthia strode onto the stage.

“And next, the man who saved Hoenn during the recent crisis—August!”

As the host spoke, a deafening roar echoed from the sky.

A flash of green streaked through the clouds—

ROAR!

With a thunderous cry, the clouds above exploded.

From within, a majestic figure on Rayquaza’s back burst into view.

Fwoooosh!

Winds howled as Rayquaza dove.

Just as it looked like it might crash, it stopped—hovering three meters above the stage like time itself had frozen.

Thump.

August landed lightly on the ground and waved with a smile.

The crowd went wild.

Anyone who’d followed the news knew—Rayquaza had played a major role in the Groudon–Kyogre crisis.

And now here it was, in front of their eyes, so close they could almost touch it.

“I knew he was planning a dramatic entrance,” Gary muttered.

Classic August.

But before he could get any agreement—

"You said something?"

A voice echoed in Gary’s mind.

Startled, he nearly dropped his popcorn.

August! You’re literally in the middle of a match! Stop using telepathy!

The battle begins.

As an exhibition match, the rules were simple—just a 1v1.

After a brief stare-down—

Both Trainers threw out their Pokémon.

Cynthia sent out her signature Pokémon: Garchomp.

The land shark crouched low, eyes locked sharply on her opponent.

And August? He sent out his own partner: Gardevoir.

Garchomp’s glare was fierce—but Gardevoir met it with equal intensity, her eyes burning with determination.

At the commentary booth, Iono’s voice rang out to the live stream.

“Morning, noon, and night, hellooo~!”

“Welcome to the Iono Iono Live Room! This is your Electric★Streamer Iono, bringing you the live coverage of the World Championships Opening Match!”

“By now, everyone knows who our two Trainers are! Cynthia needs no intro, and Mr. August is also one of our stream viewers~!”

“We see Cynthia’s gone with her Ground/Dragon-type Garchomp—”

“—and in response, August didn’t use Rayquaza, but chose his Psychic/Fairy-type Gardevoir.”

“From a type matchup perspective, Gardevoir has the clear edge.”

“But battles are about more than just typing—it’s also about the Trainer’s skill!”

“Let’s look back to the field—wait, it’s already started!”

Just as she spoke, both Pokémon moved at once.

Garchomp roared and slashed its fin-blades through the air, launching a barrage of mud at Gardevoir.

“Garchomp used [Mud Shot]!”

“A narrow-angle, difficult to dodge—”

Before Iono could finish, Gardevoir calmly raised a hand.

A blue psychic shield formed in midair, blocking every single clump of flying mud.

Iono choked on her words.

[2333333]

[Gardevoir: Dodge? I don’t need to dodge.]

Thankfully, she recovered quickly. “Gardevoir used [Psychic] as a barrier to block the [Mud Shot]… Garchomp’s first attack didn’t land—it looks like it’s switching tactics.”

Cynthia, unfazed, gave her next command. “[Dig]!”

Garchomp vanished underground, dodging Gardevoir’s incoming [Psyblade].

But August didn’t even need [Aura] sensing—Gardevoir had already locked onto Garchomp’s location underground using telepathy.
