Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [336]

It was unclear whether the League staff had changed the matchmaking mechanism, but on his sixth match, August finally encountered an opponent who didn’t forfeit before the battle even started.

Standing on the battlefield, the girl across from him met his gaze with unwavering intensity. Her eyes practically burned with fighting spirit.

Sabrina looked mildly surprised. There are still people who aren’t afraid of August?

August, on the other hand, stared at the girl as her image gradually overlapped with a certain figure from his memories…

“Sapphire?” August asked.

Hearing his voice, the girl’s battle-hardened expression flickered with confusion.

“You know me?”

“I heard Professor Elm mention you once. Didn’t expect to run into you here.”

Ruby and Sapphire—protagonists of the Hoenn arc in the Pokémon Special series.

After resolving the Groudon and Kyogre incident, August had originally planned to recruit Ruby and Sapphire into the International Police. But because Elm was worried Ruby would get into danger, the plan fell through.

He never imagined he’d run into Sapphire here.

“You know my dad? Even if you do, don’t think I’ll go easy on you!” Sapphire clenched her fists, flashing her two small fang-like teeth in a serious expression.

“Go easy…?”

August made a strange face. He had originally thought Sapphire was just someone who sought out strong opponents, but now…

“Don’t tell me… you didn’t watch the opening ceremony?”

“Opening ceremony? What’s that?”

Seeing the confusion on her face, August and even Sabrina instantly understood.

She hadn’t seen any of the previous matches.

[PsychicPrettyGirl]: August, you’re not planning to bully an innocent, clueless girl, are you?
[GardevoirSupremacy]: It’s a fair match! You make it sound like I'm the villain…

While August and Sabrina were talking, Sapphire watched them suspiciously. Her gut told her these two were communicating about something… that she wasn’t in on.

“Are we battling or not?” Sapphire frowned, clutching a Poké Ball. “The aerial Rotom cam is already here!”

August snapped back to focus and looked up. Sure enough, the Rotom drone was in position.

Except, maybe recognizing him as the one who had filed a complaint at HQ earlier that morning, it stayed high above and didn’t dare interrupt.

He shrugged at Sabrina, signaling that this was Sapphire’s idea.

“A battle? Of course!”

As he spoke, he grabbed the Eevee perched comfortably on his shoulder—who had been lounging like it was ready to watch a show—and tossed it onto the field.

“Bui?”

Eevee blinked, little question marks practically floating above its head.

Sapphire eyed August and the Eevee on his shoulder. Having spent years helping her father, Professor Elm, with field research, she’d developed a keen survival instinct—and right now, it was sending up red flags.

Strange… it’s just an Eevee. So why does it feel dangerous?

After a brief pause, she decided to trust her instincts—the instincts that had saved her countless times in the wild. She’d go all out!

Unclipping a Poké Ball from her belt, she tossed it forward.

Thud—!

With a heavy crash, a 120kg Aggron landed on the battlefield, clad in gleaming silver armor.

Its blue eyes locked onto Eevee—not hostile, but filled with curiosity.

If it could speak, it would probably say something like: “This Eevee is my opponent?”

Sensing Aggron’s gaze, Eevee let out a chirp.

But rather than intimidating, the sound seemed… cute. Maybe it had spent too much time around August.

From Sapphire’s point of view, this Eevee didn’t seem to have any real battle prowess—based on its size and its chirp, it looked more like a mascot than a fighter.

“Let’s get started!” Sapphire was ready.

The aerial Rotom camera hovered overhead, hearing her cue—but it didn’t immediately announce the start of the match. Instead, it turned to August.

As if waiting for his command.

August: “.....”

I know I filed a complaint, but is this really necessary…?

Well, now wasn’t the time to argue.

Looking across at the eager Sapphire, August smiled. “Then let’s begin.”

[Ding! Recording function activated. Both trainers may now commence battle. This match will be uploaded to the World Championship database and factored into the rankings.]

As soon as the announcement ended—

Sapphire moved.

A seasoned survivalist, she knew better than to wait around. The first strike mattered most.

“Aggron, [Take Down]!”

On command, Aggron roared into motion, thundering forward like a tank. Its armored limbs pounded against the ground, building speed as it charged directly at Eevee.

With 120kg of mass and silver-plated armor, it could crush solid rock with that momentum.

“You’ve trained it well. If it evolves into a Mega Aggron, it might even rival Gary’s.”

August didn’t issue any orders. He just stood there, evaluating.

Sabrina looked surprised.

August often teased Gary, but she knew him well enough to recognize this for what it was: genuine praise.

Eevee understood immediately. No commands meant it had permission to act on its own.

And so, while Sapphire watched Aggron storm toward it with deadly force… the little Eevee simply yawned. Like it had just woken from a nap and couldn’t be bothered.

Sapphire opened her mouth to yell—but before she could speak, Aggron’s leg suddenly buckled mid-charge.

The massive Pokémon lost balance, its weight shifting awkwardly as it skidded sideways with a painful scrape across the battlefield.

It came to a stop—face-down—barely ten centimeters in front of Eevee.

Eevee calmly stepped onto Aggron’s head and began bouncing on it like a trampoline.

Aggron still didn’t get up.

“Aggron—!” Sapphire’s voice cracked in disbelief.

What happened? Why did Aggron suddenly lose balance and faint?

“So curious?” August’s voice drifted into her ears.

Sapphire looked up to see him smiling. “It was Yawn. My Eevee used [Yawn].”

Realization struck her.

So that’s why it collapsed. The imbalance came from Aggron falling asleep mid-charge after being hit with [Yawn].

But…

“Why did your [Yawn] kick in so fast?”

August stroked his chin, feigning contemplation. “Maybe my Eevee’s just a little bit strong?”

Sabrina rolled her eyes dramatically.

He’s showing off again.
