Yukinoshita’s Method of Correction [4]

A clash of ideologies!

Hiratsuka Shizuka folded her arms across her chest, watching the tension in the room with undisguised delight.

Though both said they wanted to help others, Higashigumo Sugi and Yukinoshita Yukino had completely different motivations—and completely different philosophies.

Just how will sparks fly when two proud teens collide?

The mature adult in the room, Hiratsuka, was positively giddy with anticipation.

“Oh.”

Higashigumo held the maid outfit out toward Yukinoshita.

“Then you wear it.”

Hiratsuka: ...That’s it? That’s your response to being shut down by a peer?

No... this is a more advanced strategy—tactical retreat.

By handing over the maid costume—the symbolic uniform of the Service Club—it looked like Higashigumo was relinquishing his position as president. But in truth, it was a trap.

If Yukinoshita accepted the outfit, she’d also be acknowledging its validity—thus contradicting her earlier rejection of that symbolism.

But if she didn’t take the outfit, she’d effectively be refusing the authority Higashigumo was surrendering—and wouldn’t be able to claim the presidency.

Hiratsuka’s eyes narrowed in thought.

Checkmate on either side. How would Yukinoshita respond to this double bind?

“This is exactly what I was afraid of,” Yukinoshita said coldly, barely glancing at the costume. Her expression twisted with what could only be called grim disgust.

“Shallow people, using shallow understanding to offer shallow assistance in shallow ways. That kind of help solves nothing. It saves no one.”

A direct strike!

Faced with Higashigumo’s bait, Yukinoshita met it head-on, tearing down both the symbolic gesture and the authority it represented. She had elevated the entire debate to a higher, ideological plane.

Save, huh?” Higashigumo raised an eyebrow.

“So you’re saying you’ll ‘save’ me by invalidating my efforts and stealing the Service Club out from under me?”

What a clever twist!

He stripped away Yukinoshita’s reasoning and reframed her intent in base political terms, dragging the lofty ideological battle back down into a squabble for control.

“First of all, saving people isn’t a justification. It’s a decision,” Yukinoshita said, pressing her fingers to her temple as if dealing with a headache.

“Second, you changed clothes because of my presence. That makes my subjective impression an objective fact. I’m more qualified than you to judge whether your efforts have any merit.”

“And lastly, this so-called your Service Club—was my idea in the first place.”

Her gaze flicked briefly toward Hiratsuka.

“I’m simply reclaiming what was mine.”

“Huh?” Higashigumo turned to Hiratsuka.

“Sensei, don’t you think that deserves some clarification?”

A classic diversion! Passing the heat to a third party—wait, huh?

Hiratsuka’s inner commentary screeched to a halt. Why am I getting dragged into this?!

This isn’t how it’s supposed to go!

When two righteous ideals clash, the natural thing to do—as shown in every classic shounen manga—was to prove one’s justice through battle!

How did we fast-forward straight to mutual mudslinging and power grabs?

“Well... Yukinoshita’s not wrong. The Service Club was her idea,” Hiratsuka muttered.

“But Yukinoshita, didn’t you also say my words inspired you to form the club? So giving it to Higashigumo isn’t entirely out of line either.”

“And I also said that only applies if he understands the true meaning of the Service Club and its activities.”

Yukinoshita’s blue eyes narrowed.

“If he lacks that awareness, then his current authority over the club is, in and of itself, a mistake that must be corrected.”

“What really needs correcting is your self-righteous attitude.”

Higashigumo peeled off his gloves.

“You’ve been wrong about something from the very start.”

Ohhh here it comes, Hiratsuka’s eyes lit up.

The glove has been thrown. The duel begins—

Plop.

Higashigumo tossed the gloves onto the desk. “I never needed this club in the first place. You want it? It’s yours. I’m out.”

Hiratsuka: ...Huh?

You’re bailing?! I was gearing up for a battle of ideals and you’re just—quitting?!

This was supposed to be a Ripple Overdrive, not a DIO speedrun!

“I only stayed because sensei asked me to.”

Higashigumo shrugged.

“And now instead of bringing me a client, she brought someone to trash the place. So if she’s rejecting the need, then I—”

His eyes flicked over to Hiratsuka’s face, and he abruptly stopped.

“Running away?” Yukinoshita asked, her tone as mild as ever.

“I suppose for someone who lacks self-awareness, realizing they’re no match is a kind of progress.”

“Such a cheap provocation.” Higashigumo chuckled.

“Fine. I’ll humor you a little longer.”

He turned back toward her. “You said earlier that because I changed outfits for you, you had the most authority to judge whether my efforts were valid. But that entire idea is fundamentally flawed.”

“Coming from someone as shallow as you...” Yukinoshita’s lips curled faintly—no warmth in her eyes—“You think you’re ready to discuss the essence of things?”

“I dressed professionally for the sake of a client. But you’re not a client—so you don’t have a say.”

Higashigumo tugged at his collar.

“The problem isn’t what I’m doing. It’s who you are. You judged my actions from the wrong role, so of course your conclusions are wrong.”

“You’ve finally learned to look past the surface.”

Yukinoshita brushed a lock of hair over her shoulder, each strand catching the sunlight like silk. Her face lit with a rare expression of satisfaction—almost luminous.

“If you’d focused on the essence earlier, we could’ve cut this whole exchange much shorter.”

“So this is what the great Service Club amounts to.”

Higashigumo let out a disappointed sigh.

"Guiding someone to say what you want to hear through word games? That’s your idea of correction? It’s just a boring rhetorical exercise.”

“If you can even ask that question, it means you have grasped the essence. Which proves my correction was a success.”

Yukinoshita’s smile radiated a kind of cold brilliance, like an angel basking in her own moral clarity.

“Now go out and apply this mindset in your actions. Live the life of someone who’s been saved—filled with gratitude toward me.”

“I’m not so far gone that I need a pointless argument to decide the direction of my life.”
Higashigumo slipped his gloves back on.

“And I definitely can’t hand the Service Club over to someone like you. Just how many people have you actually helped with this whole farce of a system? I need to make sure they get real help before it’s too late.”

Yukinoshita froze.

“Oh~?”

Higashigumo gave her a predator’s smile. “Don’t tell me... not even one?”

Yukinoshita glared at him. “Of course I have—!”

“Doesn’t count if it’s me.”

He wagged a finger.

“Besides me, who else have you helped?”
