I’m Doomed! I Got Trapped in a Dream! [14]

The skies above Mondstadt cleared. Life returned to the city—literally.

All the residents who had vanished during the dragon crisis had now respawned. In the blink of an eye, the fountain plaza was once again bustling with people. The birdsong returned, the flowers bloomed, and the city was once more filled with its usual vibrant chatter.

Humming a little tune, Chen Mo strolled leisurely to the counter of Mondstadt General Goods. He tapped through Blanche’s shop menu a few times, bought a bottle of salt in his left hand and a bottle of pepper in his right, then sauntered back just as casually.

Then he approached the eternally boiling pot again—this time, without immediately crouching down to cook. Instead, he stood there, staring at the flames beneath the pot, deep in thought.

“Tch… I almost got roasted just making skewers earlier. Now I’m trying to fry an egg—without any proper cookware, I’m gonna die for sure.”

The flames in this alternate-reality Genshin Impact really didn’t follow any logic. Even the occasional spark that leapt from the fire could cause burn damage if it so much as grazed your fingertips.

If I end up dying from fire damage while trying to make a Teyvat Fried Egg... that would be something. Might even unlock a hidden achievement or something.

“Maybe… just maybe… if I wolf it down fast enough before my body disintegrates into pixels, I could trigger a food-based auto-revive. Boom—back on my feet!”

Sarcasm aside, Chen Mo was genuinely curious to know what a second-processed Teyvat Fried Egg might taste like. You couldn’t let the risk of death keep you from eating.

So he headed back to the Good Hunter’s counter, hopped over it, and tried to take a frying pan down from the wall...

Yep—just as he’d feared. Another texture. The frying pans, woks, spatulas—all of them were part of the background, completely uninteractive.

“Knew it… All right then, how the heck am I supposed to fry an egg?”

“…Ah. Got it.”

After a moment of thinking, a lightbulb metaphorically popped over his head. He opened up his inventory and navigated to the artifact screen.

He remembered that there were lots of goblets in the artifact sets—things like the Traveling Doctor’s Silver Pot or the Adventurer's Golden Goblet. Maybe there’s something that could double as cookware?

But his artifact collection was still meager, just a few scraps from the main quest chests—nothing remotely usable.

Instead, he found something under the weapon tab: a brand-new, ten-pull reward—an oddly flat, square-headed claymore that looked perfect for making teppanyaki or grilled noodles.

“Yep. You’ll do nicely.”

Chen Mo reached out and grabbed the handle of the greatsword.

The moment he pulled it out of the menu, the weapon materialized with a thud, hitting the ground with startling weight. It actually startled him.

“Holy crap, this thing’s heavy!”

He’d always thought Diluc looked cool swinging his giant firebird. He’d admired Eula’s elegant ice crashes. But now he truly understood how much those claymores must weigh.

“Lord Diluc… Lady Eula… Big Sister Beidou… I have so much more respect for all of you now…”

With cookware secured and butter purchased, it was time to fry some eggs.

...

After a lengthy bit of scrambling, Chen Mo finally brought two steaming, golden Teyvat Fried Eggs to the table. He picked up the salt and pepper bottles, sprinkling one egg with both, and leaving the other plain.

Nahida, still enjoying her grilled mushroom-chicken skewer, caught a whiff of the eggs’ savory aroma. Her eyes blinked reflexively, her chewing sped up—it was clear she wanted to finish the skewer quickly and dive into the eggs.

“No rush, the eggs are still hot. By the time you finish your skewer, they’ll have cooled just enough not to burn your mouth.”

“Perfect timing. Let’s see how far Master Keqing has pushed the main quest.”

Saying this, Chen Mo pulled out the chair across from Nahida and sat down, opening up the game map.

“Whoa, that’s some fast progress! As expected of the Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing. With her on the case, I’d say my main quest completion speed just tripled. Let’s see…”

His scrolling suddenly stopped.

“Huh? Wait a minute…”

He leaned closer to the screen, something clearly catching his eye.

“…What the hell? Why is that Statue of The Seven unlocked?”

“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” Nahida, nibbling at her plain egg, leaned in curiously.

“Look.” Chen Mo pointed at a newly revealed portion of the map. “My Fontaine statue just got unlocked.”

He showed her the map. In Mondstadt, only the Statue of The Seven at Starfell Lake had been activated. The nearby regions—like Windwail Highland and the route to the city—were partially revealed. But everything else remained shrouded in fog.

Except for one place.

If you scrolled to the upper-left quadrant, you could see a section around Fontaine’s Court and the Opera Epiclese—randomly and conspicuously lit up.

“Fontaine… that’s really far from here, isn’t it?” Nahida asked, finishing off her plain egg while peering at the map.

“Exactly. That’s what makes it so weird…” Chen Mo frowned. “All right—Nahida, I’m going to teleport over there to check it out. You stay put, okay?”

“Okay…” Nahida nodded obediently, then picked up the peppered egg and took a small bite.

“Mm?!”

She let out a tiny gasp, clearly taken aback by the flavor—her first experience with seasoned fried egg.

Chen Mo had already opened the menu for Fontaine’s Statue of The Seven and was about to hit the [Teleport] button—until Nahida’s delighted reaction made him pause.

“What is it? Oh-ho~ I see…”

Seeing her enchanted by the taste of food he had made filled him with a small burst of pride.

“So? How’s the peppered fried egg?”

Nahida nodded thoughtfully. “Hmm… If the plain egg was like a fresh, moist mushroom spore sac, then the peppered one is like a crisp, fire-aspected desiccated mushroom core—charred and flavorful in a totally different way.”

“…Ow, my liver hurts just hearing that…”

Her bizarre comparison instantly reminded Chen Mo of his painful memories with Fungi mobs—and the unspoken rule: Never use Pyro on mushrooms.

“Eh? Are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?” Nahida didn’t understand the idiom at all. She genuinely thought Chen Mo’s liver was acting up and looked at him with concern.

“No, no… not at all—I mean, yes, I’m fine, really! Just remembered something unpleasant. I’m okay, I promise—cough cough…”

Chen Mo coughed awkwardly, desperate to change the subject.

“Let’s just check on Keqing’s grind—uh, no, I mean her story progress, shall we?”

He absolutely could not afford to say “grind” again.
