I’m Doomed! I Got Trapped in a Dream! [15]

Chen Mo opened the in-game chat window, held down Keqing’s profile icon, and spoke into the chat:

“Master Keqing, Master Keqing, this is Chen Mo. What quest are you on now? Still clearing the temples, or have you already started Kaeya’s story quest?”

He waited after sending the message.

But the other end of the chat remained silent for quite a while.

“Master Keqing? You don’t know how to use the chat window? Want me to teach you?”

“I can hear you! You don’t need to keep shouting!” Keqing’s voice finally came through the chat window, though she didn’t sound particularly pleased.

“I was in the middle of a fight when your chat window suddenly popped up out of nowhere—got smacked in the head by that hulking Hilichurl and died! My head still hurts!”

What Keqing meant by “died” was actually being KO’d inside a domain. At the moment, she had just respawned and was sitting within the glowing green circle of a revival point, her right hand propping up a one-handed sword stuck into the ground, her left hand operating the chat window as she messaged Chen Mo.

“Oh? Did it come with a defeat CG?”

“…What?”

“Never mind, never mind… Anyway, come back soon, will you? I’m heading to Fontaine, and I can’t leave Nahida here alone.”

“You two wait a bit. I’ll be done clearing this last temple soon and head back.”

“Geez… Master Yuheng, you’ve already died—can’t you take a break in the afterlife or something? At least rest a little!”

“If you hadn’t brought that up, I’d have forgotten!” Keqing’s tone sharpened, clearly angrier now.

“Miss Nahida already told me this is just a dream—I’m not dead! You insolent scoundrel! How dare you toy with a member of the Liyue Qixing like this? Once I wake up, I will find you and see justice done!”

“…Uhh…”

Chen Mo was briefly speechless, unsure how to respond.

I haven’t even touched the Liyue Archon Quest yet—how am I already on the Millelith’s wanted list? How is this fair?

Also, did she just say this is a dream?

He turned to Nahida and asked, “Did you tell her this world is a dream?”

“Umm… well…” Nahida looked a little embarrassed. “I just thought… lying is bad. Miss Keqing is going to wake up eventually. Even if you keep telling her this is the afterlife, she’ll find out sooner or later.”

Her voice grew steadier as she spoke, and she nodded at the end. “So… no lies.”

“…Okay, fair enough.” Chen Mo couldn’t bear to ignore Nahida’s earnest advice.

Her petite and delicate appearance gave her an unexpectedly powerful moral authority when she spoke about doing the right thing—it was strangely persuasive, hard to resist.

Chen Mo sighed and circled back to the subject of the so-called “dream” world.

“Ahem… anyway, for the record, I don’t think this is a dream.”

Nahida blinked at him, prompting him to go on.

“Look—check this out. The game menu, the damage panel, the inventory, enhancement screen, mail system, the wish banner, and all this ‘blue-as-heck’ Intertwined Fate…”

As he spoke, he opened each interface one by one, showing them to Nahida in turn.

“There’s no one on Teyvat who could dream up something like this. And if this is a dream, then it has to be my dream.”

“Mhm, you’re absolutely right,” Nahida nodded.

“But that’s the problem,” Chen Mo said, pointing to himself. “When the dreamer realizes they’re dreaming, the dream ends.”

He was reminded of the Sabzeruz Festival arc in Sumeru.

“At first, I really did think this was my dream. But look—after all the time we’ve spent here, has anything started to crack or fall apart?”

The moment Nilou realized she was the dreamer, the Samsara broke down. But this world? They’d been in it for almost a full day and not even a flicker of instability.

“Uhh… Eh?” Nahida froze mid-thought, clearly overloaded, like her brain had entered “galaxy collapse” mode.

Chen Mo’s reasoning was airtight. Even as the God of Dreams, Nahida couldn’t find a single logical counterpoint.

At that moment, a shimmer appeared near the teleport waypoint on the platform—Keqing had returned to Mondstadt, likely having just finished clearing the Four Winds Temples.

“Hey hey, don’t worry about it,” Chen Mo said, noticing Nahida stuck deep in thought. “Let’s just go with your version for now—call it a dream. Whatever this world is, we’ve got time to figure it out.”

“For now, I’m heading to Fontaine. You and Keqing…”

He glanced around at the shops and respawned NPCs, then added,

“You two go ahead and buy every recipe available at Good Hunter. Use Keqing’s Mora—she’s been pushing the main quest for ages, she’s gotta be loaded by now.”

Then he reopened the map, selected the Statue of The Seven in the Court of Fontaine, and, just before teleporting, gave Nahida one last piece of advice:

“Don’t waste time chatting with NPCs. Use the purchase menu, got it? I’m off.”

“Mhm, I won’t forget.” Nahida waved him goodbye.

Chen Mo pressed the teleport button. In a flash of white light, he arrived at the gates of the Palais Mermonia.

“WHAT THE—!! Scared the hell outta me!”

The teleport light hadn’t even fully faded when Chen Mo found himself nose-to-nose with a face—a massive, unexpected face that filled his entire field of view.

It was so close, their noses almost touched.

A jump-scare face appearing out of nowhere? That was nightmare fuel.

Chen Mo reeled back in shock, taking several steps away and nearly tripping over the base of the Statue of The Seven.

“KYAAA!!”

At the same time, the girl in front of him screamed too—an ear-splitting, high-pitched shriek that sounded like she'd been scared half to death while deeply focused on something else.

Thankfully, it only lasted a moment—not one of those long, drawn-out shrieks.

Talk about bad timing: Chen Mo had teleported to a location already occupied by someone else. When the respawn settled, his model popped in right in front of her. Face to face.

Clutching his right ear, Chen Mo looked up, brows furrowed, trying to figure out who she was.

“Y-you scared me to death! Where the heck did you pop out from?!”

The girl who had been startled by Chen Mo’s sudden appearance had long, gradient twin-tails—flowing from turquoise into white. If the ends weren’t curled, her hair would probably brush the floor.

Her eyes were mismatched: the left a pale blue, the right a deep navy. She wore an exquisite sea-blue mini top hat and a dramatic sea-blue theatrical dress, layered over a crisp white blouse and short shorts. The vivid contrast of deep blue and pure white made her stand out even in the most crowded scene.

But none of that caught the eye quite like the silver thigh bands on her bare legs. Those were attention-grabbing.

Right now, the girl had stumbled back several steps in alarm, hands raised instinctively in a defensive posture. Her flustered state made her look... oddly cute.

“Holy crap, it’s F—Furina! Lady Furina!”

Chen Mo almost called her “Fufu” out of habit, but caught himself just in time. After all, this was their first meeting—he had to be respectful.

To Furina, it just sounded like nervous stammering from a startled stranger.
