Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [17]

Some time passed… probably about a month or so.

After a brief bout of chaos, the mountains and forests had returned to their original quiet.

It seemed like good news—those villagers injured by Wenna didn’t seem interested in coming back. Instead, they began to refer to the nearby valley as the “domain of an evil god.” In their minds, it was some malevolent deity that had granted Wenna her powers and corrupted her mind, twisting her into a demonic creature.

And so, the area where Bluey lived gradually became known among the villagers as a “forbidden zone of evil.” Even those clansfolk who—like Wenna—had white hair and blue eyes were seen as proof of corruption, and were ostracized and excluded by the rest of the village.

According to Wenna’s latest update, those white-haired clanspeople had already grouped up and left. It seemed they were planning to find a secluded place no one could reach… and establish a new tribe of their own.

“Let them do what they want.”

Bluey paid no mind to the intentions of these so-called “dragon-blood descendants.”

Just because you toss a sausage to a stray dog now and then doesn’t mean you’re its master—or that you owe it a lifetime of care. Likewise, Bluey never once considered those people his kin, even if they did carry some fragment of his power in their blood, a power they would pass down to their children and grandchildren.

“Merlin said they might become a new mage lineage someday.”

“But more likely, they’ll just fade into the dust of history.”

It was a night of dazzling starlight.

Artoria had brought a feast—raisin-studded bread, lamb glazed with honey, even a lightly tart fruit wine with a soft kick.

The spread was so suspiciously good that Bluey couldn’t help but wonder if this was his “last supper.”

“After tonight, I probably won’t be back for a while.”

“Sir Hector’s taking me to a ranch in the countryside. He says it’s time for special training… to refine my swordsmanship.”

Ah. So it was a last supper.

Artoria felt a little gloomy.

Another stretch of time apart.

It wasn’t anything unusual. Honestly, it shouldn’t have felt like such a big deal—she had already unlocked the “Haven’t Seen the Baby Dragon for Two Straight Months” achievement once before.

But for some reason, this parting left her especially wistful.

Maybe it was because she could feel something shifting. After all, she was fifteen now—and in the old Celtic traditions, that was considered the age of adulthood.

She was already living in that liminal state: ready—at any moment—to take up the mantle of king, should destiny call.

And if that was true, then maybe this sudden, intense training Sir Hector had planned wasn’t just a whim after all.

“I wonder… what kind of person I’ll be the next time we meet?”

“If I come back as a king, will you still recognize me?”

Artoria reached out and gently stroked the baby dragon’s head, a swirl of emotions behind the gesture—reluctance, anticipation, and something she couldn’t quite name.

But in response to this silent plea, Bluey merely cast her a quick glance… and then turned right back to his meal, digging in with total focus and not the slightest hint of sentimentality.

“Not recognize you? As if.”

“So long as that little ahoge’s still there, I’d know you even if you turned to ashes.”

“Besides…”

Something seemed to click in Bluey’s mind. He stopped chewing and looked back at the melancholy little ahoge girl with a peculiar expression.

In that moment, his blue eyes gleamed like gems—clear, vivid, and almost unnaturally transparent.

“What?” she asked.

“Nothing,” Bluey replied with a blink, putting on his most innocent look. “Just thought of something funny.”

What kind of evil scheme could a baby dragon possibly have? He was just a little greedy for snacks, that’s all!

As usual, Artoria left before sunrise.

But unlike previous times, Bluey didn’t return to his cave afterward.

Instead, he spread his wings and soared across the cliffs, flying deeper into the forest-covered mountains.

“Break time’s over.”

“Time to get serious again!”

After a bit of searching, he found a lake—then dove into it like a blue-white missile, piercing the surface in a blur. The shock of cold water jolted his drowsy spirit awake, and the dark shadows lurking in the depths made the dragon’s blood inside him begin to boil.

Lake monsters.

If the forests were home to magical beasts, then the lake concealed creatures far more dangerous.

Broadly speaking, these monsters—tracing their origins back to Leviathan—could be considered “dragonkin.” They had long, serpentine bodies, with massive torsos that swelled near the middle. Sometimes they would breach the surface, water cascading from their ribbed sides like waterfalls; other times they’d dive down and thrash the lake, sending great waves crashing across the surface, capsizing boats with ease.

There was no denying it—they were powerful.

But more importantly, they contained Mystery at a much higher concentration than forest beasts.

They weren’t mere animals anymore. They had crossed the threshold, ascending into the realm of phantasmic species.

Even if they were the lowest tier of that category.

“Not sure if I can beat them… but I’ll try.”

To be honest, Bluey was a little nervous—it was his first real battle against such monsters.

There were many of them. And he’d have to fight them underwater—their domain, where he, as a dragon, was at a disadvantage.

But… time was short. He couldn’t afford to hesitate anymore.

“Go all in—if I win, great. If not, I’ll just run for it!”

“Either way—fight first, think later!”

A faint light began to gather in his mouth.

It was small—so small it seemed insignificant in the lake’s vast, murky depths. It couldn’t even fully illuminate the space around him.

But the aura of destruction within that white glow…

Even the weakest Leviathan would freeze for a second if it saw it, and wonder if Gabriel had just sounded the trumpet for the end of the world.

“[Burst Stream of Destruction]!!!”
