Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [36]

Concept.

Something new.

Bluey studied it carefully and realized it seemed to be related to a “new form.”

As everyone knows, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon has a well-established evolution path: Maiden with Eyes of Blue (Dragon Egg) → Blue Eyes Spirit Dragon (Adolescent) → Blue-Eyes White Dragon (Mature Form) → Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon (Final Form) → Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon (Ultimate Form)... It’s more or less like the evolution system from Digimon.

But just like how Digimon doesn’t always follow standard evolutionary routes, with things like Armor Evolution, DNA Digivolution, and Ancient Spirit Evolution, a Blue-Eyes White Dragon at its mature stage could also unlock entirely new forms by fusing with other Concepts.

The first new form Bluey understood and mastered came from the Concept of Protection:

O unbreakable white dragon, bless thy wings with the power of protection, and become the pure dragon that guards all that is good in this world!

Descend, White Spirit Dragon!

“Eeeehhh—That line is so embarrassing!”

“Do I seriously have to say it out loud?”

A valley in the Kingdom of Camelot.

A brand new day had dawned.

Just like the countless ordinary days and nights before it, Artoria was hard at work helping build the new kingdom.

“Come on, everyone, one last push! I’ve told Sir Kay to bring back wine for all of you!”

With two thick logs hoisted across her shoulders, the girl called out to encourage the transport crew around her.

She was the king of this land, but she never put on royal airs. She wasn’t the kind of ruler who simply sat behind a desk managing affairs—more often than not, she worked side-by-side with the villagers, shared meals with them, lived among them.

This kind of leading-by-example spirit had naturally earned her the love and admiration of most.

Or maybe it was just because she was too capable—after all, each of those logs she carried usually required four men working together to lift. Yet she held them easily, as if it were no effort at all.

In fact, if her human body weren’t the limiting factor, she could likely haul even more timber or carry far heavier stones.

Such inhuman feats would usually invite suspicion or even hostility if done by someone else—at the very least, people would start whispering “monster.” But when she did it, it somehow felt… justified. After all, wasn’t she the Holy King who had made a pact with the gods? Wasn’t a bit of supernatural strength only to be expected?

If she couldn’t lift two logs at once, that would be the strange part.

“Your Majesty, tell us the story of you and the White Dragon God again!”

“Yeah, yeah! Something new this time! Sir Kay said you secretly raised that white dragon—was that true?”

“No, wait—I remember Kay saying he was the first to discover the White Dragon God, and the dragon originally chose him as king. But he didn’t want the job, so he passed it on to his little sister…”

Before Artoria could even open her mouth, the villagers had already begun bickering among themselves.

Thanks to Kay’s big mouth, there were now dozens of different versions of the story floating around the village. Things like “The Secret Chronicles of the White Dragon,” “My Unbreakable Bond with the Dragon,” “The Day I Bet a Gold Coin Against a God—and Won”… pretty much, if you brought Kay a bowl of wine, he’d come up with a brand new story on the spot—guaranteed to be one you’d never heard before.

“That idiot Kay…”

Artoria sighed, helpless but not truly angry.

That’s just how people were. They preferred stories full of twists and grandeur. The mundane truth never seemed to interest anyone. Even if she told them, no one would listen.

“Your Majesty, can you contact the Dragon God?”

“Yes, yes! Could you summon the Divine One for us?”

“We want to witness the glory of a god too—!”

After a brief bout of arguing, the villagers' voices unified once more.

They cheered loudly for the god’s name, faces bright with excitement, entirely lacking any sense of reverence. People who’d never encountered the divine were like this—they knew only the brilliance of gods, but not their authority.

Artoria simply kept smiling.

She could contact Bluey, of course. But she absolutely wouldn’t respond to such baseless, curiosity-driven requests. Merlin had once told her a story: In ancient times, there was a legendary king named Solomon who had been granted the power to perform miracles by God. Yet in all his life, he had only ever shown his people one miracle.

“A miracle is called a miracle because it’s something completely beyond human capability—something only the divine can accomplish.”

“If miracles happened often, people would come to think of them as ordinary. And then, naturally, they’d cease to respect divine authority.”

“That’s why a single miracle is enough. Let the people know their king is blessed by the gods—and that is all.”

It was a thought-provoking tale. Artoria often reminded herself of it, to avoid the mistake of putting her own ego above all.

Just like right now—as she worked alongside the villagers.

Honestly, with her strength, she could probably finish all this work much faster on her own. But she willingly sacrificed that efficiency to act in concert with her people. The point wasn’t just to strengthen bonds—it was to make the villagers feel like they were part of the kingdom’s creation. That they weren’t just subjects, but builders of their homeland.

“Wait—Your Majesty, I think I see the White Dragon God!”

“Huh?”

“I mean it! It’s the White Dragon—it’s really, really white!”

“…”

…Well then.

The king looked up, her elegant face visibly exasperated as she spotted the white dragon soaring in from the distance.

She hadn’t summoned a miracle to boost her authority.

But if the miracle came knocking on its own—

Well, there was nothing she could do about that.
