Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [41]
Added 2025-06-07 06:12:20 +0000 UTCA gray aura seeped up from the ground, slowly spreading across the battlefield.
It was the presence of “death,” the kind of aura that all living things instinctively feared.
And yet, there was something distinctly different about this deathly mist compared to the one Bluey had seen above that island.
Both shared a sense of decay and finality, yes—but this one wasn't cold. It wasn’t eerie. It didn’t silently siphon away life force without warning.
On the contrary, it was quiet. Calm. It drifted outward like a mourning song, or the gentle unfurling of an ink painting on silk.
Tap, tap—
Through the thick, heavy fog, a figure in violet appeared, walking toward them from the distance—her silhouette only half discernible.
She stood motionless in the mist that radiated the concept of “death.” She said nothing, did nothing.
The fog completely cloaked her form, hiding even her face from view.
And yet, it didn’t matter. Everyone already knew who she was—every Celt who lived on this island had heard her name and the legend that followed.
The oldest warrior of humankind. The first to raise a spear against the gods. A woman who, as a mortal, set foot in the divine realm. A queen who ruled over the netherworld that welcomed the dead and wandering souls—the only living being in the land of the dead.
Compared to that, everything else she had done seemed almost trivial—like, say, casually training the greatest hero in Celtic history.
Skadi.
Even among heroic myths, this name belonged to a myth of its own.
And now, at the twilight of this mysterious, fading Age of Gods, no one had expected to see her face again.
—Of course, there was another way to put it:
“Old hag, your time’s long past.”
“Why don’t you just stay put in your underworld? What the hell are you doing meddling in the living world?”
From the sky above, the white dragon looked down upon the goddess, turquoise light blazing in his eyes.
Coincidentally—or perhaps not—the goddess standing on the earth below looked up at that same moment. Her wine-red eyes sparkled with anticipation, as if itching for a challenge.
“Wait—!”
Artoria, realizing what was about to happen, reached out instinctively to stop it. This fight had no rhyme or reason. It was senseless.
But it was already too late.
Boom—
Though no real blows had been exchanged yet, their domains were already beginning to clash in silence.
A god who ruled the realm of the living, and a goddess who reigned over the dead—in this waning twilight of the Age of Gods, perhaps they were the last two deities left in the world. And now, they began what could only be called a true Clash of the Divine.
In the real world, the white light spewing from Bluey’s mouth collided with the crimson beam launched from Skadi’s hand. Twin rays of light met in midair, locked in a titanic struggle.
In the inner world, from the massive island surrounded on all sides by black seawater, vast death energy erupted like stampeding horses, galloping toward the living world at incredible speed.
Sensing the threat, Bluey quickly shifted into his [Spirit of White] form, spreading his protective white aura across the fairy realm, trying to block the encroaching tide of death.
—But he couldn’t.
His authority was incomplete. He wasn’t truly a “god of the living world.” Half of the divine mystery of this island still rested in the hands of the White Dragon King, Albion. With only half the power, he couldn’t hold back the full might of the underworld goddess.
And that pure white protective force—powerful as it was—could only repel forces below divine level. Against this deathly mist that seemed capable of devouring the entire world, it couldn’t stop it outright. It could only slow it down, watching helplessly as land meant to teem with life was gradually consumed.
“White Dragon! Danger!”
The white dragon in the sky hadn’t called for help. The red and white beams of light continued to clash with no clear victor.
But to Artoria—who had raised him, protected him since he was small—she didn’t need to be told. She felt his struggle.
I have to help him!
With that resolve, the King Chosen by the Stars didn’t hesitate. She raised her holy sword high—sunlight exploded forth as golden light surged into the battlefield.
Now it was two against one.
The tide of battle seemed to turn decisively.
But Skadi was utterly unfazed.
In fact, it was the opposite. The moment the power of the sun joined the fray, the gleam in her eyes grew brighter, more alive.
“Oh?”
“Now this is interesting—”
Feeling the two forces beginning to press down on her, Skadi didn’t panic. Instead, she adjusted her stance with composure.
She had been holding her spear with both hands. Now, her left hand loosened, and she gripped the dark red magic spear with only her right.
And in her now-empty left hand—another magic spear materialized.
She raised it slightly.
The second beam of light launched from the newly formed spear—this time aimed straight at the Red Dragon King on the ground.
“Ah, crap!”
“She’s in Dual-Gun Granny Mode!”
…
This was a battle that had started unexpectedly—but whose outcome was almost inevitable.
Faced with perhaps the two strongest beings left in the world, the goddess from the underworld managed to suppress them both alone.
—Yet no one would dare claim that those two were weak.
They would only say this: Skadi was too strong.
Of course she was. The sovereign of the dead. The god-slayer of legend.
In the days when divine civilization still flourished and gods walked among mortals, the number of deities slain by her hands was uncountable.
And now, here in the end days of the Age of Gods, defeating a god and a king? Was that really so surprising?
—Even Skadi herself didn’t think so.
She acknowledged the potential of this god and king. Perhaps, one day, they would stand on equal footing with her.
But that day was not today.
Today, Bluey’s power was incomplete. And so was Artoria’s.
To the world, these two might appear invincible.
But to Skadi, they were still just children—children wielding wooden swords.
And what’s so strange about a battle-hardened warrior defeating two kids with toy weapons?
With that in mind, Skadi began to channel even more magical energy, preparing to end the fight in a single burst and return to her palace for a well-earned nap—thus perfectly wrapping up this little excursion into the world of the living.
But then—
“My god—!”
Something no one expected happened.
On a battlefield meant only for gods and monsters, a “normal human” appeared.
A woman with an agile frame charged directly into the domain of the underworld goddess, wielding a curved blade like a scimitar.
Everyone thought she was going to die.
But in the next instant, a faint white glow shimmered around her body. A thin barrier emerged, shielding her from harm—and even lighting up the gray mist that surrounded her.
“I’m here to help you!”
