Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [55]

It was a face that absolutely should not have appeared here.

Inside the Tower, where knights gathered in a sacred place of loyalty and glory—the kind of place where such virtues practically crystallized into light—

This girl didn’t belong.

Even she felt that she didn’t belong here.

“U-Um… I’m… Ma, Mashu…”

“...Mashu Kyrielight.”

“I don’t know why I’m here either… I just woke up and found myself already here…”

Under the weight of everyone’s eyes shifting toward her, the utterly clueless girl blurted out her full name on instinct.

“Ohhh—”

The proud knights exchanged glances.

Some were surprised.
Some seemed to suddenly understand.
Some furrowed their brows in contemplation.
And one—just one—looked like he’d seen a ghost.

“Well, we’ve never met you before.”

“But since you’re here, that means fate has brought you to us.”

“Who knows? Maybe in the future, you’ll become one of the Knights of the Round.”

The "gorilla"—or more properly, Sir Gawain—the most trusted and relied-upon knight of the King, gave her a kind, if subtly meaningful, smile.

He understood what this was.

In truth, most of the Round Table already understood.

But no one spoke that truth aloud.

Out of respect—for a certain noble knight.
And equally, out of respect for the girl now known as Mashu Kyrielight.

“In any case, Your Majesty—”

“In response to your summons, the Knights of the Round are assembled.”

“Please give your command.”

Bluey watched as the King was surrounded by the knights.

He could sense it clearly—Artoria’s thoughts were still swimming.

She didn’t know exactly what was going on… but something told her this was a good thing. So she didn’t need to worry—just accept it for now.

That, more or less, summed up her current state of mind.

That state lasted until they exited the Tower at the End of the World and returned to the real one—where the fog in her mind finally began to lift.

“To call it a ‘royal command’ sounds far too solemn… It’s simply a matter I hope you’ll help me with.”

“But there’s no rush. Before that, let me hear about your current situations—and allow me to properly welcome you all with a banquet.”

Breathing in the fresh air of the world outside, Artoria gradually regained her clarity.

The elegance of a perfect king returned—there was nothing in her bearing or words that anyone could find fault with.

Good, Bluey thought.

Looks like she’s fully stepped into her role now.

And with that, he quietly made preparations to leave.

He had no particular interest in these knights.
Nor in the upcoming Holy Grail War.
Even if the Grail wasn’t found—so what?

As long as he was still standing here, the greatest miracle in this world would continue to exist on this island. And as long as that was true, no apocalypse, no despair, would ever reach this land again.

But then—

“Wait—”

Just as Bluey turned to go—

Artoria, who until now had been preoccupied with the knights, suddenly called out to stop him.

“This next part probably isn’t something a child should be present for.”

“Could I ask you to take care of her? Maybe show her around?”

As she spoke, she gently pushed the violet-haired girl—whose face all but screamed Who am I? Where am I? What’s going on?—toward him.

“……”

Bluey reflexively reached out to steady her as she stumbled.

But his eyes remained fixed on Artoria’s face—more precisely, her clear green eyes.

As though he were trying to read something there.

But Artoria’s expression was perfectly calm—completely devoid of any ulterior motives.

“…All right.”

Bluey slowly turned his gaze away, patted the girl’s shoulder, and with that, separated from the curious stares of the knights.

“Come by for dinner later—”

“……”

Eat, eat, eat—that’s all you do is eat!

The inspection squad is already here, and you’re still thinking about food!?

Bluey led Mashu through the flourishing streets of the Citadel.

It was a rather quiet outing, but not at all dull.

True, Bluey was somewhat introverted and not much of a talker. Even when he had to speak, he preferred to get straight to the point, using the fewest words possible.

But this seemingly reserved violet-haired girl was, in truth, a total optimist—and very much a doer.

After the initial panic wore off, she realized she wasn’t in any real danger.
And just like that, she tossed all her worries aside.

What emerged before Bluey was a girl who, despite seeming timid and withdrawn on the surface, was actually full of wide-eyed curiosity for everything around her.

“Are those bards? What are they singing about?”

“What do those golden runes on the wall mean? Are they for magic?”

“Whoa, is this… a marketplace for magi? I didn’t know places like this existed!”

“What is this fluffy white creature? I’ve never seen anything like it in any textbook… But it’s so cute!”

—All of those thoughts were in her head, of course.

On the outside, she maintained a cool, almost indifferent expression.
Barely any facial changes at all.

Only when she saw Fou did a faint look of surprise flash across her face—
and then, she smiled softly and reached out a hand to touch the adorable white creature.

In ACG culture, she’d be labeled as a “pseudo-three-no”:
Emotionless face. Robotic tone. Hidden warmth.

But Bluey had a better word for it: closeted tsundere.

On the surface she seems proper and polite, but really she’s just a child who’s never seen the outside world or experienced anything on her own.

She probably doesn’t even know how to properly express her own emotions yet.

Just one look, and Bluey understood exactly what sort of girl this was:

A test-tube baby, designed specifically to safeguard human history.

Though the Heroic Spirit binding to her had already completed, he—displeased with the morally questionable circumstances of her creation—refused to aid Chaldea, that so-called salvation agency. Instead, he chose to remain within the girl, ensuring that she, his vessel, would not die from his departure.

And that was why this girl—an ordinary human—had been summoned to this age.

Just as Gawain had said:

One day, she truly would become a Knight of the Round.
