Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [368]

The moment Mega Charizard Y appeared, the entire battlefield shifted. The clouds above evaporated in seconds.

Scorching sunlight blazed down, baking the arena floor.

Aside from a few water puddles left behind by [Surf], the entire field transformed from wet and damp to dry and sun-scorched in an instant.

Commentator: "It’s the [Drought] ability! Drought has changed the weather to harsh sunlight!"

Under this weather, Water-type moves are weakened, while Fire-type moves get a significant boost.

That was exactly why Leon had the confidence to send out Mega Charizard Y, even with Milotic still on the field.

Seizing the weather advantage immediately, Leon punched the air. “Let’s go, Charizard—[Solar Beam]!”

“Roar!!”

Mega Charizard Y lifted its head, sunlight gathering in a golden glow above it. In the blazing sun, [Solar Beam] required no charging time at all.

The golden energy condensed in its maw—then fired straight at Milotic.

Commentator: "Leon’s Charizard is using [Solar Beam]!"

Clearly, Leon had done his homework on Cynthia’s lineup—he wouldn’t have chosen such a specific move otherwise.

With Mega Charizard Y’s towering Special Attack, a direct [Solar Beam] hit would undoubtedly KO Milotic, who had already taken previous damage. All of Cynthia’s hard-earned momentum would vanish in an instant.

But Cynthia stayed perfectly calm.

“Milotic, [Protect].”

A shimmering shield formed in front of Milotic.

The [Solar Beam] hit—exploding on impact, engulfing both shield and Pokémon in a dazzling flash of light.

Leon didn’t even blink. “Charizard, [Air Slash]!”

Charizard’s wings flared with energy. With a sweep, it launched dozens of glowing crescent-shaped blades into the lingering smoke.

The cutting wind blew part of the haze away—revealing Milotic within.

The [Air Slashes] struck all over her body, burying her in a storm of slicing energy.

Commentator: "Milotic takes a direct hit from [Air Slash]!"

Leon’s eyes narrowed, locked on the point of impact.

“Was that enough…?”

Lance, up in the stands, asked the same question aloud.

August’s eyes glowed faintly blue—his [Aura] active.

“Leon took the bait,” he said flatly.

That wasn’t the real Milotic.

Even as he spoke, the tattered Milotic faded away like mist. And then, at the edge of one of the undisturbed puddles, the real Milotic emerged.

Her body shimmered blue, and a pulse of energy soared skyward.

In an instant, the burning sunlight vanished, replaced by thick storm clouds.

Rain poured down.

[Substitute] and [Rain Dance].”

August and Leon spoke the strategy in unison.

Cynthia had blocked the [Solar Beam] with [Protect], then used the resulting explosion’s smoke as cover. In that moment, Milotic had created a [Substitute] and slipped into the corner to use [Rain Dance].

The falling rain didn’t just negate the sunlight—it actively empowered Milotic’s Water-type moves.

Meanwhile, Mega Charizard Y looked visibly uncomfortable. Even the flame on its tail dimmed slightly from the downpour.

“This is my domain now,” Cynthia said coolly. “Milotic—[Muddy Water]!”

A surge of murky water gathered before Milotic, then blasted toward the rain-weakened Mega Charizard Y.

“Dodge it!”

Charizard darted left and right in the air, narrowly evading—but the rain had clearly hampered its aerial control.

WHAM!

A blast of muddy water struck, splashing across its wings and blinding its vision. Charizard wobbled in midair.

But Leon’s partner had seen countless battles by his side. Charizard quickly recovered, adjusting its posture with seasoned grace.

Still, the hit was a bad sign.

Leon gave a sharp command. “[Air Slash]!”

White blades of wind surged toward Milotic.

In response, she raised a tidal wall—an enormous [Surf]—to intercept.

[Surf] vs. [Air Slash].

The attacks collided.

The air blades shattered in an instant, while the wave fragmented into countless streams of water, splashing in every direction. Thankfully, the stadium’s drainage system held strong, or it might have become a lake.

Then—an orange blur dove from the sky.

Flying low, barely skimming the surface of the muddy field, Mega Charizard Y unleashed a golden beam of energy.

[Dragon Pulse]

Just as Leon had anticipated—Milotic hadn’t expected a low-altitude blitz. The [Dragon Pulse] struck cleanly.

Already exhausted, Milotic had no strength left to resist. She collapsed without a sound.

Referee: "Milotic is unable to battle!"

Leon clenched his fist. One left.

Cynthia calmly pulled out a Premier Ball.

“Garchomp—[Stone Edge]!”

Without even waiting for [Mega Evolution], Garchomp burst onto the field and immediately launched a barrage of jagged stones into the sky.

Just as I expected—Garchomp!

Leon’s thoughts sharpened. “Charizard, evade!”

Charizard climbed higher with explosive force, narrowly dodging the spinning rocks.

From the ground, Cynthia smiled slightly.

She never expected [Stone Edge] to hit. Forcing Charizard to ascend—that was the real goal.

“Garchomp, [Sandstorm]!”

Rain was useless to Garchomp. Time to change the weather.

A wall of wind burst outward from Garchomp, hurling sand and grit in all directions, sweeping away the last of the rain.

Leon reacted instantly. “Charizard—interrupt it!”

Charizard opened its jaws and launched another [Dragon Pulse] at Garchomp.

But Charizard had flown too high. And even though [Dragon Pulse] charged quickly, by the time it reached ground level, Garchomp was already cloaked in swirling sand.

[Sand Veil] activated!

Garchomp’s form flickered within the sand, becoming harder to track. Plus, thanks to the earlier [Muddy Water], Charizard’s accuracy was already compromised...

The [Dragon Pulse] missed.

BOOM!

The shockwave struck nearby, knocking Garchomp back slightly—but it wasn’t a direct hit.

Cynthia was more than satisfied. The earlier [Muddy Water] had done its job.

The [Sandstorm] grew stronger, finally consuming the entire battlefield.

Wind howled.

Charizard, freshly recovered from the rain, was immediately pelted with coarse grit. Sand lashed its wings and eyes, making it flinch.

Leon tightened his fists.

If only Aegislash were still up, I could’ve used it to stall Garchomp…

But now—

It was time to settle this with raw strength.

“Charizard—it’s time to show them our resolve! [Dragon Pulse]!”

Leon swung his arm. Charizard’s tail blazed to life, its power spiking.

“Go!”

“Raaaah!!”

A massive [Dragon Pulse] exploded from Charizard’s mouth, sweeping across the battlefield.

Accuracy? Who needs it?

This was saturation fire.

Cynthia raised her hand. “Garchomp—[Dig]!”

Shameless? Maybe. But it worked.

That was something August had casually told her during yesterday’s training.

Just before the [Dragon Pulse] struck, Garchomp vanished underground.

BOOM!

The impact vaporized every water puddle in a ten-meter radius, leaving a deep ring-shaped crater in the dirt.

But Garchomp was nowhere to be seen.

The [Sandstorm] still raged, steadily chipping away at Charizard.

Leon frowned. “Charizard—[Sunny Day]—!”

“Garchomp—[Stone Edge]!”

Cynthia didn’t give him the chance to change the weather.

From a different corner of the battlefield, Garchomp burst from underground and unleashed a hail of jagged stones toward Charizard.

Charizard abandoned [Sunny Day] and moved to counter. With a swipe of its claws, it shattered most of the rocks—though a few struck home.

Garchomp didn’t linger. Like a true predator, it disappeared the moment it struck.

From that point on, Garchomp alternated between vanishing into the sandstorm and tunneling underground, launching ambushes whenever Charizard exposed a blind spot.

Never facing it head-on.

Even someone as unflappable as Leon was starting to lose his composure. Garchomp’s relentless feints were wearing him down.

If Charizard weren’t slower than Garchomp…

If only that [Muddy Water] hadn’t lowered his accuracy…

If Aegislash was still around…

His thoughts began to fragment under pressure.

Up in the stands, Lance was watching this increasingly un-Cynthia-like battle—this petty, infuriating war of attrition.

He glanced sidelong at August.

Didn’t August say he trained with her yesterday?

August: “Why’re you looking at me like that?”

“…You didn’t happen to teach her this strategy, did you?”

In Lance’s memory, Cynthia had always been a noble, by-the-book battler. The only new element here... was August.

August looked shocked. “Why would you think that? Cynthia’s a rival of mine! Why would I help her?”

“I only gave her a tiny suggestion. Just a little, insignificant tip.”

He even pinched his fingers together. Just this much.

Lance: “…..”

Knew it. It’s totally your fault.
