Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [374]

“Spiritomb is unable to battle. Mew wins!”

As the referee announced the result, Mew twirled midair and turned her wide, innocent eyes to August.

I won, so I can go back to snacking and spectating now, right?

August stared at the tiny, ever-lazy Mew hovering before him, deep in thought.

How… how did she turn out like this?

Before he could finish brooding, Cynthia had already sent out her second Pokémon.

“Miii~uu!”

Milotic stretched her body gracefully as she landed on the battlefield, her wary and curious eyes fixed on Mew.

Mew, meanwhile, wiggled her tail and gave August a pitiful, pleading look.

“Mew~!”

“Alright, alright… You win, again.” August sighed, surrendering to her gaze. “Fine. Tag out.”

Mew reached out one tiny paw and tapped the airborne Poké Ball flying toward her.

Pop!

In a flash of light, Dragonite appeared on the battlefield—while Mew now sat comfortably on August’s shoulder.

“Mew~!”

She reached out toward August’s shadow with a paw.

From that shadow, Gengar’s head slowly emerged, reverent and obedient. With a straight face, he reached into his belly… and pulled out a fresh bag of chips, offering it to Mew like a humble snack butler.

“…”

August twitched at the sight.

Gengar’s officially become Mew’s walking snack stash…

Back on the field, Dragonite—having inherited the [Nasty Plot]-boosted Special Attack from Mew—locked eyes with Milotic. Neither Pokémon dared underestimate the other.

Knowing she was at a type disadvantage, Cynthia didn’t hesitate. “Milotic, [Ice Beam]!”

Her Milotic had trained specifically in [Ice Beam], to counter Dragon-types like this.

“Dodge it, Dragonite!”

Thanks to his [Multiscale] ability, Dragonite could survive a direct hit from [Ice Beam]—but if you could dodge, why take the hit?

Dragonite flapped his wings with surprising agility, his plump body twisting just in time to avoid the frigid blast.

“Now, [Thunderbolt]!”

Dragonite let out a warbling roar, and twin antennae on his head crackled with electricity.

Lightning surged from them, forming a bolt that shot downward toward Milotic—supercharged by the Special Attack boost he’d inherited from Mew’s [Nasty Plot].

“Milotic, [Dragon Pulse]!”

Milotic opened her mouth and launched a green beam of draconic energy upward in an attempt to intercept the [Thunderbolt].

The two attacks collided midair—green meeting gold.

Boom!

A thunderous explosion lit up the sky.

But it was clear: [Dragon Pulse] was no match for the amplified [Thunderbolt]. A stray arc of electricity blasted through the haze and struck Milotic, catching her off guard.

“Miiiuu~!”

Milotic cried out, her sleek body convulsing under the shock.

Even so, she gritted her teeth and didn’t retreat. Following the trajectory of the [Thunderbolt], she fired off another [Ice Beam]—this time, blindly through the fading smoke.

Still mid-cast of his attack, Dragonite was caught unprepared. The freezing beam nailed him square in the belly.

He let out a pained wail, spiraling downward from the sky.

Whump.

Both Pokémon had taken heavy hits.

Milotic’s body twitched involuntarily from the lingering static, while Dragonite clutched his now frostbitten stomach, his face twisted in agony.

Stomach pain.jpg.

Despite the injury, it was Dragonite who recovered first—his [Multiscale] ability dulling the earlier blow.

He looked down at his frozen belly with watery eyes, then puffed out his cheeks, angry.

His antennae sparked.

With a hiss of electricity, another bolt of gold lightning launched.

[Thunderbolt]

“Milotic, [Protect]!”

A translucent shield flared around Milotic, absorbing the brunt of the electric strike.

But just as she prepared to counterattack, small sparks rippled across her body.

[Paralysis]

With her [Marvel Scale] ability, the paralysis lit up her scales with a faint shimmer—boosting her Defense.

But when Dragonite’s third [Thunderbolt] slammed down—

It didn’t matter.

Zap!

“Milotic is unable to battle!”

Cynthia had lost two Pokémon in a row.

The tide of battle was clearly turning against her.

But as she recalled Milotic, Cynthia didn’t show a hint of discouragement. Instead, her eyes gleamed with anticipation.

“The real battle’s only just beginning.”

“Let’s go—Togekiss!”

With a swirl of light, a white, graceful Pokémon took to the skies—its belly patterned with blue and red triangles, shaped like a small, elegant jet.

From the sidelines, Togepi—nestled in Blue’s arms—perked up the moment it saw the field.

“Chakki chakki bo~ee!”

Togekiss turned her head, instantly recognizing her child. She gave a cheerful cry in return.

“Kiboo~!”

The audience collectively aww’d.

Commentator: “It appears Togekiss knows the Togepi in the stands. Could they be parent and child?”

Next to him, Iono kept her mouth shut.

She knew that Togepi was August’s—gifted to him by Cynthia herself—but with the two of them caught in enough relationship rumors already, she wasn’t about to add fuel to the fire.

Togekiss, reassured by her baby’s health, shifted her focus back to the battle.

Dragonite, still holding his bruised belly, looked warily at Togekiss.

Fairy/Flying type—bad news for a Dragon-type like him.

The type matchup was completely against him.

Cynthia seized the opportunity, not even giving August time to switch out.

“Togekiss, [Dazzling Gleam]!”

“Kiboo~!”

Brilliant light burst forth from Togekiss’s wings.

[Protect]!”

A barrier flashed up in front of Dragonite, blocking the fairy light just in time.

Then—

[Extreme Speed]!”

Dragonite’s bulky frame suddenly blurred into motion, vanishing in a flash as he lunged at Togekiss.

Despite her soft, rounded appearance, Togekiss was no slouch—her speed rivaled Dragonite’s.

In the blink of an eye, she vanished as well, countering with her own [Extreme Speed].

Two high-speed streaks darted across the sky, clashing again and again.

To the audience, it looked like flashes of light colliding midair, followed by shockwaves of impact.

Then—after another exchange—

Dragonite’s motion faltered for just a split second, his movements sluggish.

His belly—the same one that had taken a direct [Ice Beam] earlier—throbbed painfully, and he missed a beat.

“Now’s the chance—Togekiss, [Dazzling Gleam]!”

A brilliant light flared from Togekiss’s wings.

Dragonite was struck mid-air, his body flipping and tumbling backward.

Whump!

He hit the ground hard.

Referee: “Dragonite is unable to battle. Togekiss wins!”

Cynthia’s fans erupted in cheers.

Commentator: “Cynthia pulls one back—now trailing August by just one! Iono, do you think she has a chance to win this?”

Caught off guard, Iono hesitated for a second. “Maybe...? Possibly?”

Given how well she knew August’s strength, she figured Cynthia’s odds were slim.

But still—this was Pokémon battle. Anything could happen.

That said, the livestream viewers weren’t thrilled with her indecision.

[What happened to our confident commentator?]
[Come on, Iono! Show some guts!]
[Professional commentary means daring to make a call!]

Iono: ...

If I listened to you clowns, I’d be a Slowpoke by now!

You mocked me when I guessed wrong, and now you want me to be bold? Can’t have it both ways!

I, Iono, refuse to fall for your bait ever again!

While Iono was busy internally swearing off audience manipulation, August had already sent out his third Pokémon.

No mourning for Dragonite—no hesitation at all.

“Snor!”

With a massive yawn, Snorlax lumbered onto the battlefield.

This Alpha-class Snorlax loomed like a hill, casting an oppressive shadow as it faced off against Togekiss.

Togekiss flinched slightly at the sheer size of its opponent, but quickly regained her composure, flapping into a battle stance.

Commentator: “Unexpected choice from August—Snorlax enters the fray! We’ve seen him use this Snorlax in high-tier battles before, where it displayed overwhelming force and crushed its opponents. But can it handle a match of this level?”

Could it?

Snorlax answered with action.

His eyes flashed red as he moved at an alarming speed for someone his size, charging directly at Togekiss and swinging a colossal fist.

[Mega Punch]

The force of his strike tore the air with a sonic boom.

Togekiss yelped and quickly fluttered back, dodging just in time.

Snorlax’s fist smashed into the ground with explosive force.

BOOM!

The impact cratered the battlefield, cracks spiderwebbing across half the arena like shattered porcelain.

“No way!”

“Snorlax was that strong before?!”

“One punch like that could kill something!”

The crowd was stunned.

If a Legendary Pokémon like Rayquaza had shown that level of strength, maybe it wouldn’t be such a shock—but this was Snorlax.

A regular Snorlax—albeit a little taller, a little meaner-looking.

“Where the hell did August catch that monster?” Lance muttered from the stands, turning to Blue and the others.

He was certain August had never trained a Snorlax before. This one must’ve been a recent catch.

“Hisui,” Gary replied.

“Hisui?”

“Yup. He lured it in with Poké Puffs.” Gary’s face twitched with envy.

If he’d known Snorlax in Hisui were that strong, he would’ve done some luring of his own.

While Lance was still trying to wrap his head around where “Hisui” even was...

On the battlefield—

Togekiss hovered cautiously.

She bore fresh bruises—the latest just barely grazed her by Snorlax’s earlier swing.

Togekiss didn’t even want to imagine what would’ve happened if that punch had landed squarely.

Cynthia had also taken it all in. She made a quick judgment:

Don’t go toe-to-toe. Keep your distance and kite him!

“Togekiss, [Dazzling Gleam]!”

Before she even finished speaking, August shouted: “Snorlax, [Heavy Slam]!”

Snorlax surged forward, his massive body aglow with power as he charged Togekiss mid-cast.

Bright light burst from Togekiss—but Snorlax didn’t even try to dodge.

He took the [Dazzling Gleam] head-on and barreled through it, roaring toward Togekiss.

With Snorlax’s weight, if [Heavy Slam] connected, even Togekiss wouldn’t walk away unscathed.

But just as disaster loomed—

Luck smiled on Togekiss.

Snorlax’s foot landed squarely on a chunk of upturned stone from his earlier [Mega Punch]—just enough to trip his momentum.

That moment of delay—

[Extreme Speed]!”

Togekiss vanished in a flash, reappearing behind Snorlax.

She conjured a gleaming orb of blue energy in front of her—

[Aura Sphere]

August’s eyes narrowed.

That’s bad.

Fighting-type. Super effective against Normal-type Snorlax.

The sphere charged rapidly and launched with precision.

It slammed into Snorlax’s back and sent ripples through his flesh like waves across pudding.

Snorlax wobbled with the force, his face twisting in pain.

But before Togekiss could even celebrate—

Snorlax’s red eyes glowed fiercely. With a terrifying snarl, he turned.

[Body Slam]!”

The ground shook as Snorlax leapt—yes, leapt—into the air, limbs spread wide.

Cynthia’s eyes widened. “Evade, now!

Togekiss tried to dodge—but it was too late.

Wham!

Snorlax landed like a meteor.

A quarter of his bulk embedded into the earth.

When the dust cleared, Togekiss was pancaked beneath him, wedged into the crater.

Referee: “Togekiss is unable to battle. Snorlax wins!”

Cynthia’s face twitched as she recalled her poor Togekiss—barely managing to pry her out before Snorlax could accidentally squish her again.

“Lucario, you’re up. Your opponent’s a heavyweight.”

She sent out her fourth Pokémon.

Lucario—his blue and black form emanating calm focus—landed with sharp eyes fixed on Snorlax.

He understood immediately: this opponent wasn’t to be taken lightly.

Lucario inhaled deeply, then conjured an [Aura Sphere] and launched it without hesitation.

Snorlax, too slow to dodge, braced for impact.

Boom!

The explosion engulfed him.

But with his sheer bulk and durability, Snorlax endured it and began charging.

[High Horsepower]

Snorlax rallied all his weight and momentum into a thundering ground-type rush.

Cynthia didn’t take any chances.

[Protect]!”

Snorlax’s full-body charge slammed into the barrier with a titanic crack.

Creaks and groans echoed as the force of Snorlax’s impact pushed Lucario’s shield back over ten meters.

But in the end, the barrier held.

Lucario was safe.

“Now—finish it. [Aura Sphere]!”

A second explosive orb detonated against Snorlax.

At last, the giant Pokémon stumbled... and fell.

Referee: “Snorlax is unable to battle. Lucario wins!”

Commentator: “Looks like Cynthia’s clawing back momentum! Could this be the turning point?”

Currently, Cynthia had three Pokémon left—Lucario included.

August, including Mew, still had four.

On paper, the gap didn’t look insurmountable.

But Cynthia’s chances depended entirely on August’s next choice.

August tossed out a Poké Ball. “You’re up—Gardevoir!”

The moment the light faded, Gardevoir landed gently on the field.

With every step, she radiated grace. Her posture. Her eyes. Her silence.

She was elegance incarnate.

Cynthia’s eyes sharpened. No hesitation.

“Lucario—[Mega Evolution]!”

Lucario howled as the [Mega Stone] glowed, his form morphing—spiked fur rising, aura intensifying.

Cynthia knew Gardevoir’s power. She’d seen it during training.

Only Mega Lucario could stand on equal footing with August’s Gardevoir.

But something was off.

Cynthia frowned.

That Gardevoir... isn’t carrying her usual Plate?

The thought had barely formed when—

August raised his wrist, the [Keystone] flashing.

“Show them your true form. [Mega Evolution]!”

Light surged.

When it cleared—Gardevoir had transformed.

Black gloves. A flowing dark gown. Her expression now icy and regal.

She lifted her hand.

Chunks of rock—fragments left from Snorlax’s earlier attack—rose into the air.

Then, with a flick—

They rained down on Mega Lucario in a screaming cascade.

Lucario narrowed his eyes and began punching.

Each rock shattered under his fists.

He advanced steadily, step by step, reducing the assault to dust.

But Gardevoir was watching closely.

When Lucario prepared to leap—

She raised her palm and pressed down gently.

BOOM.

All the suspended rocks—and Lucario, whose feet had just left the ground—slammed into the dirt.

[Gravity]

Lucario groaned under the pressure.

He activated [Protect] just in time.

Then—

A colossal wave of Psychic energy smashed into his barrier.

Creeeak...

The crushing force strained the barrier to the brink.

Lucario vanished underground—[Dig].

The instant he did, the shield shattered.

Gardevoir’s attack slammed into the field, creating a crater.

But she didn’t miss a beat—[Teleport].

Lucario burst from the ground, demolishing her fading afterimage.

Cynthia called out, “Five o’clock! [Extreme Speed]!”

Lucario bolted backward, punching toward where Gardevoir now stood.

Boom!

His fist struck her [Reflect], creating spiderweb cracks.

Without pause—another punch.

Crash!

The barrier shattered.

And just before Gardevoir could teleport again—his fist connected.

Gardevoir reappeared across the field, stunned, holding her arm.

She stared at the pain in disbelief.

...How long has it been since I last took a hit?

She looked back at Lucario, her cool gaze sharpening.

August raised a brow.

Uh-oh... she’s serious now.

Her dark gown rustled.

She closed her eyes and floated upward.

A storm of pure psychic energy swirled around her.

On the other side, Lucario steadied himself.

His aura rose—[Calm Mind] vs. [Swords Dance].

Both of them were powering up.

And then—

Gardevoir swept her hand.

Dozens of crystallized psychic projectiles launched toward Lucario.

He surged forward, punching each blast into powder mid-sprint.

Within that maelstrom, they charged straight at each other.
