Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [378]

When Iono brought it up, August didn’t react much—but Gary, who had just come downstairs, froze wide-eyed.

“A documentary?!”

They were both Champions, so how come he didn’t get a documentary?

Unfair. He really wanted one of his own!

August ignored Gary’s envy and turned to Cynthia. “I’ll be heading to Alola next on assignment. When are you planning to depart for Hisui?”

What Cynthia cared about wasn’t Hisui—but something else.

“Something’s happening in Alola?”

“Team Rocket’s been sighted there...”

August gave her a quick rundown of the situation: the appearance of Team Rocket, their connection to the Aether Foundation, and the potential threat of Ultra Beasts.

Then he added, “If you don’t mind waiting, I could join you for the Hisui excavation once things in Alola are wrapped up.”

Cynthia thought for a moment. “Actually, would you mind taking me with you to Alola?”

August blinked. “What about Sinnoh—?”

“There’s nothing urgent that needs me there,” Cynthia tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, smiling. “And understanding the ancient past of Sinnoh—and tracing its roots—is part of my role as Champion too.”

“In that case, no objections here.”

Iono watched Cynthia’s confident, relaxed demeanor with thinly veiled envy.

She kind of wanted to go to Alola too. She’d heard it was a tropical paradise—perfect for a getaway.

But she'd already taken extended leave from her Gym duties. If she took any more time off, Geeta was definitely going to flip.

Just then, August turned toward her and asked, “Iono, how would you feel about joining the International Police’s Kanto division?”

Iono’s eyes widened.

“Eh—WHAT?!”

...

Even Iono wasn’t sure what came over her, but somehow—under August’s very persuasive pitch—she ended up agreeing to it.

Technically, he said she was being brought in as the Kanto division’s official spokesperson. No field missions required.

Still...

“How am I supposed to explain this to the Chairwoman?” Iono moaned, looking like she was about to pass out.

Tell Geeta she’d changed jobs?

She’d definitely be iced out.

Say it was just a side gig?

That was basically the same as admitting she found her current workload too light and needed more to do!

At this point, Iono could only comfort herself with the thought: Well... August is stronger than Geeta.

“Get it together, Iono! You’ve got August backing you up—you’ll be fine!”

Slapping her cheeks, she gave herself a pep talk.

Whatever else, first she needed to finish her current task:

The documentary!

While Iono was editing furiously behind the scenes, August and his team had already left the Battle Frontier and boarded the airship to Alola.

The team was just as August had planned—except now with Cynthia joining them.

Once everyone had received and reviewed the mission intel, August knocked on the table and said:

“First, we need a solid plan.”

Everyone nodded.

Team Rocket was no joke—they couldn’t afford to rush in blindly.

“Should we coordinate with Alola’s local League forces?” Blue asked.

It was a strategy they’d used in both Johto and Sinnoh—simple but effective.

Though Alola’s League was still new, there were quite a few strong local Trainers.

August shook his head. “Alola only recently joined the League. HQ asked us to avoid drawing too much attention there if possible. Better not involve them.”

“I heard every island in Alola has a guardian deity,” Silver added. “Should we try to enlist their help?”

The guardians weren’t exactly a secret—they were part of Alola’s admission documents.

Legendary Pokémon like that would make powerful allies in a fight against Rocket.

But before August could respond, Silver shook his own head.

“Never mind. Convincing that many guardian deities would take too much time.”

Plus, there was no guarantee the Tapu would even agree to involve themselves in human conflicts.

“I say we just storm in and bust heads!” Gold declared, punching his palm. He clearly had total faith in August.

But August shook his head again. “Charging in is tempting—but that’s not how this mission works.”

“Team Rocket has already taken over Aether Paradise. They’ve even secured Deoxys. If we go in loud and they slip away, things could get very messy.”

“If Giovanni manages to escape with data on the Ultra Beasts and starts summoning them worldwide—we’d be the ones cleaning up the mess.”

“So, we wake Lusamine, and then work with the Aether Foundation against Rocket?” Sabrina asked.

Cynthia nodded—she clearly agreed with that idea.

August gave a nod of acknowledgment. But just as the others began nodding too, he added:

“But that’s only part of the plan.”

That caught everyone off guard.

What was his plan, then?

Meeting everyone’s puzzled stares, August spoke with solemn clarity:

“All your ideas have merit. And they’re pieces of the larger picture. But now I’ll tell you the core of our plan.”

Everyone held their breath.

“Our goal,” August said, “is to wipe out Team Rocket in one move. At the very least, we need to cripple them so badly that they won’t pose a threat to the League anytime soon.”

“To do that, we can’t let Giovanni run.”

“We need to force him into a confrontation.”

“And that’s difficult—but not impossible. All we need is one thing Giovanni can’t walk away from.”

With that, August turned and looked at Silver.

Everyone followed his gaze—and found Silver blinking in surprise.

“.....”

Then they understood.

And as they turned back to August, their expressions were filled with admiration—and maybe just a little fear.

Compared to August, we’re not nearly ruthless enough.

But they had to admit—his idea was brilliant.

...

The Alola region was made up of four tropical islands, known for their vacation appeal. Tourists flocked there every year for sun, sea, and relaxation.

The team made their secret landing near the research facility, where August finally met Professor Samson Oak.

With his long white hair and sun-bronzed skin—

“He looks exactly like Professor Oak!” Gold gasped.

Samson laughed. “Ha! I get that all the time. Folks call me ‘Alolan Oak’—Alola’s regional variant!”

He made the joke himself to disarm it—classic Oak family humor.

If they hadn’t confirmed this really was Professor Oak’s cousin, they might’ve suspected he was just Professor Oak in disguise.

After a brief round of greetings, August got straight to the point. “Professor Samson, I assume my mentor already explained. Lusamine’s coma may be linked to a larger Team Rocket plot...”

At that, Samson slapped his forehead. “Right! Come with me!”

He led them into the facility and opened a sealed door using a code.

With the hiss of hydraulic systems, the chamber opened—

Inside, surrounded by medical equipment and monitored by a Chansey, was Lusamine.

Her golden hair cascaded down the pillow, and her white-and-gold gown shimmered faintly under the lights. Her expression was pale and weak, utterly unlike the strong-willed woman she was known to be.

A sleeping beauty, more fragile than anyone expected.

August turned to Samson. “What’s her condition?”

Given his own field experience, he understood the function of the surrounding equipment—and with a Chansey in charge, any normal injury should’ve already been treated.

Even if the injury was severe, unless it was something like Platinum’s coma caused by Darkrai’s nightmares, she should’ve woken up by now.

Samson pointed to the door. “You noticed the quarantine seal, right?”

Sabrina asked, “How is that connected to Lusamine’s condition?”

Samson didn’t answer directly. Instead, he asked, “Are any of you familiar with the term ‘Fall’...?”

At that, August, Blue, Sabrina, Cynthia, and Silver all fell silent in thought.

Only Gold looked completely blank.

“‘FALL’? What’s that?”

“You really didn’t study the briefing, did you...” Silver sighed. “It’s an internal term in the International Police. Refers to people who’ve passed through Ultra Wormholes and carry residual Ultra Space energy.”

“Those people get targeted by Ultra Beasts.”

“The UB Task Force uses them as bait to lure Ultra Beasts through the wormholes and capture them—before they can cause damage to populated areas.”

Gold blinked. “So the International Police has known about Ultra Beasts for a while?”

He’d thought they were a new discovery.

Wow, the International Police was amazing!

Ignoring Gold’s enthusiasm, August focused back on Lusamine.

“So you’re saying she’s a ‘Fall’ now? She passed through an Ultra Wormhole?”

“That’s right,” Samson confirmed. “I originally thought she’d just been attacked—but scans showed she’s carrying Ultra Space energy. So I quarantined her here, to contain the radiation and prevent Ultra Beast attacks.”

“And her coma? Likely caused by that same energy.”

August fell silent.

Then, under the curious gazes of Samson and Chansey, he stepped forward.

His hand began to glow a pale green.

He placed it gently on Lusamine’s chest.

The [Power of Virdian Aura]—activates!

Before their eyes, color returned to Lusamine’s cheeks. The tension in her brows softened.

Three minutes later, she groaned softly.

Her eyelids fluttered.

Then, slowly, Lusamine opened her eyes.

Just as August was about to ask what had happened at Aether Paradise—

Lusamine looked at him, blinked once, and said:

“…Husband?”

Blue: “?”

Sabrina: “?”

Cynthia: “?”

Gold, Silver, Samson Oak: “!”

Under the weight of everyone’s bewildered stares, August: “...”

I’m not, I didn’t—don’t say weird things!

Gardevoir can vouch for me—I don’t even know her!
