Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [385]

CLICK.

The door to Lillie’s room creaked open, revealing the scene within to August.

At the center of the spotlessly clean room, Lillie lay quietly on the bed.

“Lillie!”

The moment Lusamine saw her, she ran forward without hesitation.

But August—staring at the girl lying still on the bed—felt something… off.

She doesn’t feel like a person. More like… a Pokémon?

Just as the thought flickered through his mind, Lusamine had already scooped the girl into her arms. At her call, Lillie slowly opened her eyes—

And blinked at them with big, beady dots.

Beady eyes...?

The “Lillie” in her arms stared blankly, looking—honestly—ridiculous.

“Ditto! It’s a trap!” Wicke reacted instantly, lunging forward in an attempt to pull the president away.

But the trap had already sprung.

The Lillie in Lusamine’s arms suddenly melted into a soft pink blob—Ditto’s true form—its body elongating to coil around Lusamine like a constrictor.

At the same time, a hidden trigger in the room clicked into place.

A flash of white light—and from the corner of the room, an Arbok lunged toward the door.

Its tongue flicked coldly, venom gleaming in its fangs. Its gaze radiated malice.

The goal was obvious: take out August first, then trap the rest inside.

“Mr. August, watch out!” Wicke cried out in alarm.

But August, even with the Arbok already upon him, didn’t flinch in the slightest.

Just as Wicke instinctively squeezed her eyes shut—

The Eevee nestled peacefully in August’s arms suddenly twitched its ears and sprang forward.

A flicker of light-brown fur shot past Wicke’s eyes—

And then, in a blink, the tiny Eevee had delivered a flying kick that sent the charging Arbok hurtling across the room.

Before Wicke could even process how an Eevee had just dropkicked a venomous snake twice its size, the little fox leapt again mid-air and fired a burst of shining stars—

[Swift]

The resulting explosions echoed through the room, laced with Arbok’s agonized hissing.

When the smoke cleared, Eevee trotted back, dragging the now-unconscious Arbok by its tail, proudly laying it at August’s feet.

“Well done. Your allowance just went up by a hundred Pokédollars.”

Eevee’s eyes sparkled with joy.

August turned toward Wicke, the bound Lusamine, and the wide-eyed Ditto.

“So. Mind telling me where the real Lillie is?”

Under August’s gaze, Ditto began to tremble.

---

Outside the Room

Ariana led a squad of Rocket grunts as they surrounded Lillie’s chamber.

She glanced down at the two collapsed Rocket guards by the door. That confirmed it—the intruder was definitely here.

Still, Ariana remained cautious.

“Open the door,” she ordered.

One grunt stepped forward carefully and pushed the door open.

No attack.

Ariana’s brows furrowed slightly. Strange.

Had the intruder already escaped?

Or perhaps… her trap had worked?

“Go in and check,” she said.

The grunt stepped inside cautiously.

He made it a few paces… then stopped, frozen in place, his shoulders trembling.

“What’s going on?” Ariana called.

No reply.

She called again. Still nothing.

Ariana’s expression hardened. She released her Pokémon, signaling the others to follow—and marched into the room.

What she saw made her instantly pivot and run.

BANG!

The door slammed shut behind her—seized by invisible psychic energy.

Trapped.

Ariana turned, heart pounding.

August sat calmly in a chair, Eevee curled in his arms. Wicke, Lusamine, Silver, and Gardevoir stood beside him. His gaze was amused.

“Ariana. Leaving so soon?”

Ariana’s expression darkened. “August…”

This was the worst-case scenario.

The intruder was August. No—he couldn’t even be called an intruder. After all, the head of Aether Paradise—Lusamine herself—was right there at his side.

And that wasn’t all.

Even Giovanni’s son, Silver, was here.

That explains everything, Ariana thought, stunned.

No wonder the communication lines were severed so cleanly... If this was August's work, it all makes sense.

Cold sweat beaded on her forehead.

She had to inform Giovanni.

But August, as if reading none of this from her face, simply smiled and asked, “Now—can you tell me where Lillie is? This Ditto claims it doesn’t know.”

Ariana snapped back, voice sharp, “You won’t get anything from me!”

With a wave of her hand, she gave the command to attack.

A Bellossom stepped forward, releasing a cloud of glimmering pollen toward August.

Other Rocket grunts followed suit, sending their Pokémon charging in.

At the same time, Ariana hurled another Poké Ball.

A Honchkrow burst out, cloaked in shadow, and dove at the door—aiming to break the psychic seal with a Dark-type [Sucker Punch].

The hope? If Honchkrow could break the barrier, she could escape and call for reinforcements.

But just before the attack landed, a shadow shifted.

Darkrai materialized silently, raising a hand.

A black vortex opened, devouring Honchkrow—and with it, Ariana’s escape route.

She watched, helpless, as her last hope vanished into the void.

Meanwhile, Bellossom and the other grunts fared no better.

Though they weren’t facing a mythical Pokémon like Darkrai, their opponent was Gardevoir—wielding the [Mind Plate].

One [Psychic] later, every Rocket grunt and Pokémon was clutching their heads in agony, reeling from the overwhelming mental force.

Complete domination.

The only result of the counterattack?

Eevee—having smelled the [Sleep Powder]—sneezed.

That was it.

Before the spores could settle, August’s Pidgeot burst from its Poké Ball, flapping its wings in a violent [Hurricane]. The pollen was blown straight back—onto the Rocket grunts.

One by one, they collapsed.

Ariana's face was grim—but not surprised.

This was August’s strength.

“Now,” August said, “can you tell us where Lillie is? Her mother’s worried.”

“Giovanni’s worried about his son too,” Ariana shot back.

That hit harder than expected.

August’s expression didn’t change—but Silver’s did.

His face darkened.

Ariana looked straight at him. “Master Silver. Your father misses you.”

Wicke was completely confused by this point.

Wait—August is with the International Police, right? So… why is this boy somehow tied to Team Rocket?

August arched a brow. “Trying to recruit my teammate right in front of me? Bold of you.”

But Ariana, knowing she was cornered, didn’t respond.

She just kept her eyes on Silver.

He gave her his answer with actions.

“Weavile—[Quick Attack]!”

Weavile darted forward, slashing Ariana across the torso.

She collapsed, unconscious.

August glanced at the room full of defeated grunts. “So we still don’t know where they took Lillie, huh?”

He was just considering whether it’d be worth it to force the information out of Ariana when—

[August!] Blue’s voice crackled in his earpiece. [We found Lillie! She’s on one of the cameras!]

“Perfect.”

August stood and clapped Silver on the shoulder. “They’re all yours.”

Then he turned, motioning for Wicke, Lusamine, and Gardevoir to follow.

...

Aether Mansion – Outside Lillie’s Holding Room

August took down the guards outside with ease.

And finally—he saw her.

The real Lillie.

She was slumped on a couch, golden hair messy, a trace of fear still etched on her face.

Seeing her, a pang of emotion stirred.

Lusamine rushed forward and gathered her into her arms.

Lillie blinked awake, startled.

“…Mom? Am I dreaming?”

“Of course not, sweetheart,” Lusamine murmured, eyes brimming with affection.

Lillie tensed.

She wasn’t used to this. Her mother had always been cold, overbearing, distant. It had been years since she'd felt anything even resembling this warmth.

It unsettled her.

She turned her eyes toward August, trying to dodge Lusamine’s gaze. “Um… Mom? Who’s that?”

A man she’d never seen before.

Lusamine blinked, then smiled gently.

“Lillie, what are you saying? That’s your father!”

“F-Father?!”

Lillie’s mind shut down.

Gardevoir turned a murderous glare toward Lusamine.

August buried his face in his hands.

He had wondered, deep down, if Lusamine had been faking her amnesia.

But now?

Now he was certain.

She definitely wasn’t faking.

Her memories were truly scrambled.
