The Black-Stockinged Nun Is Actually a Boy?! [6]

“A slow-burn type of quest, huh?” Li Wei chuckled.

Finding a quest like this in the early game wasn’t a god-tier start, but it was still solid—and better yet, there was no player limit.

“Will I be able to trade with you in the future?” Li Wei crouched down in front of Helen.

Helen nodded.

Li Wei stood up, smiling. He didn’t know what kind of shop this NPC might eventually open, but if a succubus could become a nun, there had to be a hell of a story behind it.

No game designer would create a character like this without a reason—and she’s a nun!

A succubus nun, for crying out loud!

This was definitely an NPC worth investing in.

“I’ll take the quest.” Li Wei opened his interface and formally accepted the mission.

“Wait for us!” Victor quickly followed suit.

Anna, who had been squatting nearby, stood up—then suddenly turned around and poked Helen’s soft, squishy cheek.

Helen: ???

Anna blushed and gave an embarrassed little hehe before muttering an apology and dashing after her brother.

“She… she poked you,” Natalie murmured cautiously once the trio was out of earshot.

Helen rubbed his cheek and lowered his gaze. “It’s fine.”

He lifted his right hand and waved it in front of himself, then sighed.

He could see the players’ interfaces—but couldn’t open one of his own.

Clearly, he wasn’t a player. He was… something closer to an NPC.

Am I… part of this world?
The thought crept into Helen’s mind.

But he shook his head hard, trying to dismiss it.

Meanwhile, Natalie, noticing his silence, asked in a small voice, “Sister Helen, are we really going to the farm with those people?”

“Of course we are. This is key to our next move.” Helen stood up again, his cheerful demeanor snapping back into place like a mask.

Natalie couldn’t help but smile.

“What is it?” Helen asked.

“Nothing. Just… seeing you smile puts me at ease.”

“At ease?” Helen blinked, then glanced toward the retreating backs of the three players. “Well, let’s get moving.”

Honestly, he’d been preparing to drag Natalie out there alone if no players showed up.

If their aim was crap, then plan B was to lure the demons into another parish’s jurisdiction.

Yep. Couldn’t fix the problem? Just make it someone else’s problem.

Shameless, sure—but better than “accidentally” committing suicide or getting turned into demon pancakes.

Now that players had arrived, it was like the skies had parted. No more stalling.

Which meant… it was time for training.

“Let’s practice shooting, Miss Natalie.” Helen once again lifted his skirt in front of her, pulling the handgun from its strap on his creamy, smooth thigh.

Natalie stared at that pale, supple leg. For some reason, a strange heat welled up inside her.

I want to pin her down and… squeeze her dry!

“What’s wrong, Miss Natalie?” Helen tilted his head, noticing her dazed expression.

Natalie snapped out of it and shook her head furiously. “N-nothing! I’m fine!”

Satisfied, Helen lifted the kerosene lantern. “I brought extra guns in the sack. Which one do you want?”

“C-could I pay you instead? Maybe I… don’t have to fight?” Natalie’s anxiety skyrocketed again.

Snap!

Anna lit her torch and handed it to her brother Victor, then lit another for Li Wei.

Li Wei took the torch and lifted it toward the weather-worn sign that read Gray Farm. Something felt… off.

The farm at night was dead silent.

Dark clouds had swallowed the moon. Only a few lonely stars blinked faintly above. Under their pale light, the outlines of the farm distorted into twisted shadows.

From the woods in the distance came hushed, whispering winds—and the occasional sharp crack of a breaking branch.

Bones—those of cattle and sheep—floated on the surface of the pond.

Strange prints were scattered on the grass near the shore, likely left by some unknown creature. Beside the pond was a moss-covered well, dried and dark.

The farm was surrounded by wilderness. Though locals regularly trimmed the weeds, beyond the tilled fields was an expanse of blackness that made one’s skin crawl.

This was straight out of a horror game opening.

“Didn’t the starter pack come with a kerosene lantern?” Li Wei asked, slipping into streamer mode as he examined the scene.

“Huh? Yeah, it did. Should I use it now?” Anna pulled a lantern from her inventory.

“No need to be stingy in a dungeon.” Li Wei summoned his own and handed it to Victor.

Victor pointed to himself, confused.

“You hold it behind me and light the path. Anna, watch our rear.” Li Wei drew his rusty iron sword. “What weapons did you two pick?”

Magic & Firearms didn’t allow class selection at the start, since supernatural powers had to be earned. As a trade-off, players got to choose a white-grade weapon.

“Handgun!” the siblings shouted in unison.

Li Wei slapped a hand to his face. “Those come with three bullets, right? How many do you have left?”

Anna and Victor looked around guiltily. Victor even whistled innocently.

Most new players hadn’t read any guides. The handgun looked cool, so they picked it—only to discover they’d been given just three shots, with mediocre power at best. Even the in-game NPC guns were better.

Plenty of players rage-quit, made new accounts, and cursed the dev team’s entire family.

“I ran out. Used them all shooting random pigs and cows. My sister has two left,” Victor admitted, scratching his head.

“All right, then I’ll take point. Just be ready to cover me.” Li Wei took a breath and started walking toward the farm.

Anna followed with the lantern. Victor drew his gun and trailed behind.

Bang! Bang! Bang—

Back in the wilderness, Helen stared at the tree trunk with its one bullet hole. A bad feeling crept in.

He and Natalie had fired off dozens of rounds, and this was the result…

It was downright pathetic. They’d shot at least ten times and landed one hit—and not even on a vital spot.

“Should we… keep practicing until they get back?” Natalie asked weakly, her confidence in their combat abilities shattered.

Ever since she’d trusted this nun, she’d had the constant, sinking feeling that she was doomed.

“Trust me, Natalie,” Helen said with total sincerity. “I think we’re ready for real combat. We landed one shot, didn’t we? If we just fire more bullets, law of averages says we’ll hit something!”

“Combat’s about courage! I still have plenty of bullets left!”

“I… I really think we should leave now!” Natalie sobbed, eyes wide as she spotted approaching lights in the distance—villagers, likely drawn by the gunshots.
