The Black-Stockinged Nun Is Actually a Boy?! [5]

On a grassy plain in the wilderness, a slender man in black walked alone.

“This full-dive game is way too realistic.”

Li Wei looked down at his clothes and examined the lines on his palm. It was hard to believe this was just a game.

Too real—like he’d actually been dropped into another world.

The developers behind Magic & Firearms had to be something else. This was revolutionary tech, putting certain big-name sci-fi gaming companies to shame.

As a small-time game streamer, Li Wei was thoroughly impressed. This didn’t feel like a 2050s title—it felt like something from the 22nd century.

It was way ahead of its time. So real that if not for the interface he could still pull up, he might’ve believed he’d actually transmigrated.

Even the scent of grass had been simulated. So when the game launched, he jumped in right away, ready to grind levels.

Since he hadn’t been part of the closed beta, he had to hustle and catch up.

But soon, he realized that all his “grinding” only raised his weapon proficiency—not his level.

Later, he learned that in this game, levels represented supernatural power. To level up, one needed to acquire a supernatural “seed.”

And to get a seed, you had to complete certain quests—or run dungeons.

But this was launch day. Where was he supposed to find a dungeon?

“Hey bro, wanna squad up?”

Just as he was brooding over this, a voice called out.

“Who’s there?”

Li Wei turned, raising his rusty iron sword in the direction of the voice.

A boy and a girl emerged, both raising their hands in a nonthreatening gesture. Their features marked them as East Asian—probably fellow Chinese players.

In a global game like this, the language was auto-translated between players, so hearing Chinese wasn’t surprising. What eased Li Wei’s nerves was seeing familiar faces.

“Rare to meet fellow countrymen out here,” Li Wei said, lowering his sword.

“Yeah, we’re lucky! This is my sister, Anna,” the guy said, grinning. “You can call me Victor.”

The girl—Anna—nodded politely at Li Wei.

Though Magic & Firearms had a face-customization system, most players just used one of the standard templates or let the system scan and replicate their real face. Anna had clearly done the latter—her face was natural, sharp yet gentle, and strikingly beautiful.

She reminded Li Wei of Asuna from that ancient anime, Sword Art Online.

Too bad he wasn’t into women. They only got in the way of his gaming.

Real women weren’t worth his time. He much preferred 2D girls. Especially nuns.

“You can just call me Li Wei. It’s my in-game name anyway. So, what do you want from me?” he asked flatly.

He glanced up at the two of them.

Their usernames hovered above their heads in white text.

Red indicated hostility. Gold meant special NPCs or quest-givers. White was neutral. Green meant teammate.

This was part of the player detection system, though it only really worked on NPCs. For other players, you just saw the name and alignment color.

“We just wanted to mess around a bit tonight—it’s the weekend, after all. But since the game just launched, we’re kinda lost. Saw you out here practicing, figured you probably know more than us,” Victor said, scratching his head. “So… maybe you could help us out?”

“I’m not that familiar with it either. Besides, it’s dangerous at night. If you care about your accounts, I’d suggest heading to a nearby village,” Li Wei replied, already preparing to brush them off. He preferred solo play.

“We already checked out the villages,” Victor continued. “The NPCs are super lifelike, but there’s not much to explore. But on our way to the city, we ran into two nuns. One of them offered us a quest.”

Li Wei, who had been about to walk away, froze in place. He stiffly turned around.

“…Take me to them.”

“No problem. As long as you’re okay guiding us for a bit?” Victor rubbed his hands together eagerly.

Li Wei nodded with solemn resolve. “I’ll stick with you for a whole week if needed. Now lead the way.”

...

“Sister Helen… race: half-succubus?”

Under a large tree, Anna was examining the petite nun’s profile through the in-game menu—and couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

Unlike her reckless brother, Anna had actually studied the Magic & Firearms race lore before playing.

Succubi were corrupted celestial beings, creatures who fed on desire.

Half-succubi, in turn, were said to be born from unions between succubi and humans… though some lore also claimed they were succubi who had never had a taste of flesh.

“Natalie… race: half-elf,” Victor muttered nearby, his expression turning equally strange.

Two nuns—supposed symbols of purity and holiness—and these were their races?

One was even a half-succubus! Did the Church not do background checks?!

“Ladies… anything you need help with?” Li Wei wasn’t the least bit bothered. He loved nuns—especially this one named Helen.

She looked just like a grown-up version of one of his favorite anime characters. The only downside? Flat as a board.

“W-we found some bad people at Gray Farm… I was hoping you could help us deal with them,” Helen said, putting on her best damsel-in-distress act. Her eyes shimmered with tears as she looked up at the three players.

Players.

His gamble. One of his backup plans. Honestly, he hadn’t expected them to appear at all—let alone ahead of schedule.

Based on what the farmer said, they must’ve arrived a full day earlier than they had in his past life’s timeline.

He didn’t know if that was his “butterfly effect” at work, but it would certainly make things easier going forward.

“If we’re going to help, what’s the reward?” Li Wei asked bluntly. He might like this NPC, but he wasn’t dumb. He knew they were advanced AI models—no way was he doing free labor.

“Would one thousand copper coins be okay? Plus… I’ll owe you a favor in the future?” Helen gave a bashful smile, complete with a blush—just enough to make it convincing.

Natalie blinked. She looked absolutely stunned. Is this really the Sister Helen I know?

Where did all this drama come from?!

“She’s so cute~” Anna gushed, squatting beside Helen. “Can I poke your cheeks?”

“Nope~” Helen shook his head, smile saccharine-sweet.

“Hey, I just got the quest!” Victor suddenly called out.

Startled, both Anna and Li Wei opened their menus.
