Pokémon: Starting with a Dragon Dance Gible [9]

Complaining about how “underwhelming” his golden finger was?

Yeah, that was just Kaiba joking to himself for fun.

Truthfully, having a golden finger and transmigrating in the first place was already an insane stroke of luck.

What more could he possibly ask for?

...Well, in the Pokémon world, maybe that saying should go: What more do you want—a Cyclizar?

After some serious thought, Kaiba decided he should start with something that didn’t require much investment.

Working part-time jobs? Handing out flyers on the street?

No thanks.

He didn’t have the time or energy for that.

He still had a Gible to train!

But uploading videos to Poké-TV or doing content on the local equivalent of TikTok? Becoming a viral content creator or livestreamer?

Now that sounded doable.

Plenty of “predecessor transmigrators” had gone that route.

And best of all—it didn’t need much up-front capital.

If anything, it just cost a bit of mental effort. A little trial and error.

“Alright then. Starting today, I’m going all in. From zero to Pokémon livestream sensation!”

Kaiba clenched his fist and declared it with fiery resolve.

“Kapu?! 0.o??”

Gible tilted its head in total confusion.

Wasn’t this the same guy who had just said yesterday—with absolute confidence—that he was going to become a top-tier Pokémon Trainer?

How come today he suddenly wants to be a top-tier Pokémon streamer?

His goal-shifting was faster than flipping pages.

What Gible didn’t know was—becoming a livestreamer wasn’t the goal. It was the means.

Kaiba had to earn money somehow.
He couldn’t exactly expect Gible to raise him.

...

Although…

That wasn’t totally impossible either.

Selling Gible—especially one with [Dragon Dance]—would be an absolute jackpot. Any top-tier Trainer who understood competitive battling would see it as priceless.

With that kind of cash, Kaiba could be rolling in money for this life and the next, living worry-free to the end of his days.

But that would require him to be brain-damaged beyond repair.

This novel wasn’t called Pokémon: Sold My Dragon Dance Gible and Retired Early.
It was Pokémon: Starting With a Dragon Dance Gible, damn it!

(#`O′)!!

After wrapping up the day’s intensive training, Kaiba left the university gym with his exhausted, visibly worn-out Gible in tow.

Even this energy-maxed baby land shark—usually bouncing around like a sugar-charged toddler—had been pushed to its limit.

That alone spoke volumes about how effective today’s solo training had been.

But even for a pseudo-legendary “late bloomer,” Gible was just sturdier than most. Not some tireless machine.

Any heavy training routine had to be followed with proper recovery—rest, treatment, even massage—to be truly effective.

Same as human athletes, who got post-workout therapy or used massage guns to relieve muscle tension.

Kaiba wasn’t in the Battle Department.

He didn’t know any rookie Pokémon nurses or breeders specializing in recovery.

So before heading back to his dorm, he made a detour—with Gible in tow—to the university infirmary.

As a Shanghai University student, bringing your “injured” Pokémon to the school’s medical center wasn’t mooching off public resources.

This was a campus benefit. A rightful part of student support services.

“Your Pokémon’s treatment is all finished, Kaiba-kun~”

After a brief wait, Nurse Mimosa emerged with her Hypno, gently wheeling out the refreshed, fully-recovered Gible on a pristine white Pokémon-sized hospital cot.

“Kapu~ Kapu~!”

Perched on the bed, Gible waved its little arms and flexed in a show of strength, proudly signaling to Kaiba that it was back to full power.

“Your Gible’s such a lively one,” Nurse Miriam said with a warm laugh. “Training hard is good, but be careful not to push too far. Don’t let your Pokémon overexert itself, okay?”

“Fffshhh…”

Beside her, Hypno twirled its pendulum with a brooding expression.
Putting this unruly Gible under hypnosis long enough to treat it properly had not been easy.

“Thank you, Nurse Mimosa. I’ll be more mindful.”

Kaiba rubbed the back of his head and offered a sheepish but polite smile.

Normally, when people thought of Pokémon nurses, the first name that came to mind was Nurse Joy.

More specifically, the countless identical Nurse Joys who seemed like a series of cloned androids, and who ran nearly all the Pokémon Centers across every region.

Their standard assistant Pokémon? Chansey.

(Or Audino in Unova.)

In Galar, it was Indeedee♀, the region’s native healer species.

But outside of the big, well-equipped Pokémon Centers, smaller schools, towns, and villages all needed medical support too.

So it wasn’t unusual to see non-Joy nurses or medical Pokémon filling those roles in smaller facilities—like Shanghai U’s infirmary.

Still, Kaiba had to admit…

He was a little curious.

Why was Nurse Mimosa’s medical partner a Hypno?

Hypno.
The infamous Psychic-type Pokémon.

Its battle utility?

Takes three seconds to explain—because there isn’t any.

But its non-battle uses?

You could talk about those for three whole days and still not be done.

As a so-called “Master of Hypnosis,” Hypno had earned quite a reputation in Pokémon lore…

Though maybe not always a wholesome one.

But in this case, it probably made sense.

Mimosa’s Hypno likely used Hypnosis to calm agitated Pokémon, letting them rest and recover more easily.

And to be fair, the move [Hypnosis] had all kinds of versatile uses.

People really needed to stop automatically branding Hypno as some kind of evil Pokémon every time it showed up. Kora~.
