Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [72]

High above, Bluey hovered in the sky, gazing down at the three islands below, surrounded by the vast sea, his eyes tinged with melancholy.

They’re so small now.

Or maybe, he thought, it’s just that I’ve grown too large.

Bluey looked at the dozen or so Knights of the Round Table standing on the land far below, now no bigger than ants in his eyes. Only by soaring this high could he reveal his true form for the knights to see.

“This… this is insane…”

Gawain lifted his head, staring in disbelief at the dragon’s head—larger than White Chalk Castle itself.

He’d fought dragons like this before—back in that timeline known as “Proper History,” when he and Artoria had battled Vortigen, the dragon who’d fused with the very land.

But even then, Vortigen had been no bigger than a city.

And now? Bluey’s sheer size was utterly beyond imagination.

He’d never once doubted the King could lead them to victory… but could they really hope to overcome an enemy of such staggering size?

“Don’t lose heart, Gawain.”

“How will you know unless you try!”

The King’s voice rang out, and in the next instant, the holy sword that symbolized the power of the sun blazed forth across the shadowed, devastated land, its radiance burning away the gloom.

“In any case, that’s the situation.”

“Everyone—attack together!”

At the King’s command, the twelve Knights of the Round Table launched their assault on Bluey above.

Gold, red, violet, blue, green… beams of every color streaked skyward, each a Noble Phantasm of A+ rank.

“This has to work, right?”

The knights, unleashing their full strength, watched the rainbow of power arcing toward the heavens. None of them expected this strike to bring down such a monstrous dragon outright—but if it could just wound him, even a little, it might give them hope to keep fighting.

“What beautiful colors.”

Suspended in the sky, Bluey gazed at the oncoming rainbow and felt the knights’ resolve and determination behind it.

“But, what a shame.”

He lowered his eyes, making no move to dodge as the column of light neared.

BOOM—

The rainbow blasts struck him dead-on, erupting in a thunderous explosion.

But it was only noise.

As the brilliance faded, Bluey’s immense body stood utterly unharmed—not a single mark showed where the attacks had landed.

“My apologies, knights.”

“As beings whose very essence is Mystery, you cannot harm what I have become.”

“So, perhaps you’d have better luck just biting me.”

Bluey’s voice from the sky was, strangely, a genuine suggestion.

It sounded like mockery, but was simply the plain truth.

The knights’ power stemmed from Mystery—but he himself was the god who, at the end of the Age of Gods, had single-handedly upheld the world, refusing to let it collapse.

No matter how great the knights’ strength, it could not touch him.

There was only one force in existence that could.

“And you’ve known this for a long time, haven’t you?”

Bluey’s thunderous voice resounded across the heavens.

He named no one, but everyone knew to whom he spoke.

“Yes, I’ve known all along—”

Artoria looked up at the dragon’s head, vast as a city, and smiled, waving up at him.

They were not enemies—not truly, not even now.

From the very start, Bluey had never attacked the knights, and even now, Artoria’s heart was filled not with hatred, but the desire to save him.

“But still, I wanted to try.”

Because… what if? What if there was still a way forward?

You never really know until you’ve tried everything—if we could somehow keep going without putting the world in danger, wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Artoria spoke with a tinge of regret.

She had known the ending to this tale for a long time, but she still wanted to prolong the dream, to see it through.

“Even now, I declare: I am Artoria Pendragon.”

“My dream is to save this island, even at the end of the world—to protect the smile of every person here.”

“And that means your smile too. Remember that!”

She lowered her holy sword.

At that moment, countless beams of light converged from all directions into her hands, slowly taking the shape of a weapon even more radiant and fearsome.

[Rhongomyniad].

“Thirteen seals, released—Round Table, cast your votes!”

“I affirm: this is a battle for salvation!”

The King drew the sacred spear.

At the very end of the Age of Gods, the King of End Times finally drew the key that signified the world’s doom.

Did she regret it?

Of course she did.

But not for drawing the spear and bringing about the world’s end—her only regret was not drawing it sooner, not saving that lively, adorable little dragon before he became this tragic creature.

Just wait. Please, just wait a little longer.

It’ll all be over soon.

She closed her eyes, and from the depths of her heart, she prayed.

The voices of the knights rang in her ears, one after another.

“I affirm: this is a battle to survive.”

“I affirm: this is a battle to seek the truth.”

“I affirm: this is not a battle for selfish desire.”

“I affirm: this is a battle against a foe greater than ourselves.”

“…”

Over and over, their voices echoed.

Seal after seal unraveled from the sacred spear.

At last, the holy lance of salvation revealed its true form.

Artoria gripped the blinding pillar of light in her hands—knowing this was her only chance.

Not a single chance to kill the dragon before her, but her one and only chance to save Bluey.

She had to strike the real enemy—free Bluey from this wretched form.

Thankfully, she knew the answer.

“Spear of the end—anchor, away!”

Artoria drew a deep breath, fixing her gaze on the white dragon in the sky, who made no move to defend himself.

“O gods—!”

She cried out, letting the whole world bear witness to what was about to unfold:

“I hereby sever the sacred covenant between us!”

“I will kill the god that you are, and free you from this prison called divinity!”

“Let all causality be severed—shine forth!"

"[Rhongomyniad]!”
