Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [71]

White Chalk Castle
Hall of Light

After a long absence, Morgan had returned once more.

But today, she wasn’t wearing her usual magician’s robe. Instead, she had changed into a simple, elegant blue gown—an outfit that softened her appearance considerably, giving her a touch of freshness and natural grace.

“Did you dig out your childhood clothes for this?”

“You’re almost forty, you know. Still trying to act cute?”

Wenna couldn’t resist mocking the so-called “Red Dragon Princess for Life” as she eyed Morgan’s ensemble.

Morgan ignored her, striding deeper into the temple.

She walked all the way to the innermost sanctum, where a white marble statue of a dragon stood sentinel. Kneeling devoutly before it, Morgan pressed her hands together, as if praying for something.

“What is she doing, praying to a fake idol like that?”

Standing outside the doorway, Wenna shot a puzzled look at Morgan before glancing back at Bluey, who was busy tending the garden. Her face betrayed utter confusion.

—The real god is right here, so why’s she kneeling to some false statue?

“What’s up with her?”

Unable to hold back, Wenna dashed over to Bluey’s side, blurting out her question—had Morgan finally snapped after wrangling those wild kids for a few days?

Bluey had noticed Morgan’s odd behavior, too.

But unlike Wenna, he understood perfectly well what was on Morgan’s mind.

“She’s praying. Readying herself for what’s to come.”

“Praying? Why doesn’t she just come pray to you?”

“Me? I’m no god.”

“That statue… that’s the real god, for her.”

It’s hard for humans to place their faith in something real.

Because anything real inevitably comes with flaws—yet what people choose to believe in must be flawless, immaculate, unmarred by imperfection.

—It’s only ever a concept.

People draw strength from this perfect concept, forcing their weary bodies to keep pressing onward.

“Let’s begin.”

Roughly ten minutes later, Morgan emerged from the temple’s depths.

In her hand was a golden dagger, its edge catching the sunlight in a way that was both dazzling and chilling.

[Erosion, the Golden Blade].

A Mystic Code bestowed on Morgan by the Ladies of the Lake, this Noble Phantasm could separate soul, mind, and body—a ritual tool, or perhaps a ceremonial blade.

“Not going to wait any longer?”

Bluey accepted the golden dagger from Morgan, but made no move to begin the ritual just yet.

“Even if it feels like the end is near… there’s still some time.”

“You could use it to say proper goodbyes to your children, for example.”

He smiled gently as he spoke.

He’d seen it—the moment just before, when Morgan’s face had gone deathly pale. Only after several deep breaths of fresh air did her composure finally steady.

“Forget it. Just looking at them pisses me off.”

“Besides, I’m only heading to the Reverse Side of the World. It’s not like I’m dead—no need for them to attend my funeral.”

Morgan lifted her chin, feigning indifference.

—But of course, she cared.

Because for the princess named Morgan le Fay of Camelot, this ritual might as well have been her funeral.

Standing at the threshold of the temple, she took one last look at her kingdom.

From this moment on, its rise and fall would have nothing more to do with her.

Morgan’s resolve was set.

Bluey opened the gate to the world’s far side.

On the other side of the world, under the guidance of Viviane and Morrigan—the twin Ladies of the Lake—hosts of fae awaited, ready to receive their most exalted princess.

“Is… is it going to hurt?”

Staring at the cold gleam of the dagger in Bluey’s hand, Wenna was the first to speak—before Morgan could say a word.

She just couldn’t picture that blade plunging into Morgan’s pale skin, couldn’t imagine the blood gushing out—that was way too brutal.

Shk—

But instead of an answer, the dagger slid cleanly into Morgan’s body—without spilling a single drop of blood.

The ritual had begun.

Morgan’s spirit and soul lifted from her frail human vessel, twisting and rising like a majestic red dragon. After circling the skies a few times, she flew toward the Reverse Side of the World.

The ceremony was done.

In the utopian land she entered, the red dragon resumed human form. The Lady of the Lake who symbolized evil draped her in a graceful feathered mantle, while the Lady symbolizing good crowned her with a delicate white coronet.

“Wait… that’s it?”

“Then… what about this body?”

Wenna, shocked, reached out to steady Morgan’s body—she was still breathing, proof that she was alive. But Morgan’s spirit and soul had departed, never to return.

“Maybe we could…”

A bold new idea sprang to Wenna’s mind.

But before she could finish, the once-cloudless sky was suddenly shrouded in thick clouds; gales began to howl.

The weather had changed.

All across the skies above Britain, the weather turned.

With Morgan’s coronation, the mystery of the Red Dragon King finally returned to the isle.

ROAR—

Bluey could no longer maintain his human form.

Now he revealed himself as the true Dragon of Britain—the secrets of both the Red Dragon King and the White Dragon King borne upon his wings, blotting out the sun and covering the entire island.

At the same time, Wenna and Morgan’s vacant body both turned into streams of white light, drawn to the great white dragon’s side.

A third wing. A fourth wing.

The god fallen to beasthood unfurled his second pair of wings, forcefully lifting White Chalk Castle itself and bearing it toward the heavens.

“The light at the end, the god of salvation… One of the Seven Evils of Humanity, Beast IV, has awakened.”

“A Beast who holds the Principle of Sublimity—one who would defy fate itself, raising this illusory utopian kingdom on his own wings.”

O King… against such a foe, can you truly prevail?
