Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [396]
Added 2025-06-15 08:34:56 +0000 UTCAugust scrolled through the list, double-checking to make sure there were no llamas. Only after confirming did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.
He tried selecting a smaller Pokémon for support and tapped the button.
The next second, a golden crack split open in the ceiling.
Then—a Gyarados-sized Magikarp, several times larger than a normal one, plummeted from above with a thud, landing smack on the floor. The shock made Mew, who had just been about to settle in for a nap, jolt violently.
August stared at the boss Magikarp, now flopping across the floor with loud splashes.
Mew, incensed, pounded its tiny fists against August.
“Hey, it was Magikarp that startled you, not me,” August protested, innocent. “Why are you hitting me?”
“Mew!” Mew declared, making it clear it was not an idiot.
“I’ll give you chips!”
Mew immediately forgot all about being startled the moment August handed over a bag of chips, clutching it with both paws and making delighted noises.
Bliss.
The giant Magikarp on the floor blinked its big eyes, mouth gaping and closing as it desperately used Splash.
Of course, nothing happened.
...
The Next Day
Obsidian Fieldlands
On a grassy field, August and the others were having a picnic.
Blue took out the food she’d prepared in advance, setting it out one by one.
Mew stared intently at the insulated food box, eyes fixed as if engaged in mortal combat.
Finally, as Blue brought out a plate of mini cakes, Mew let out a triumphant cry and snatched a cake before August could even set down the plate.
One in its mouth, one in each paw.
“No one’s fighting you for it…” August said, exasperated.
Mew looked thoroughly unconvinced—that’s what it thought yesterday morning too, and ended up with nothing but an empty plate.
As it pondered, Mew was already about to gulp down the cake in its mouth and lunge for the rest.
But—
Cough cough!
Mew started choking, eyes rolling back from wolfing down the cake too quickly, tears threatening to spill.
Fortunately, Gardevoir reacted fast, pouring an entire bottle of juice down Mew’s throat to save it just in time.
“Mew…!”
Still gasping, Mew wore an utterly shaken expression.
Almost killed by a mini cake!
If a mythical Pokémon died choking on a cake, wouldn’t that be the biggest disgrace in history?
“I told you to slow down, there’s plenty. No one’s fighting you for it…” August brought out two more plates of mini cakes from the insulated box.
Thanks to a request put in with Sirfetch’d ahead of time, there was no shortage of cakes today.
Mew’s face flushed red, embarrassment plain as day.
Just then, Lillie’s voice piped up:
“Teacher, look!”
August looked in the direction she was pointing.
There, led by a gigantic boss Eevee, was a group of Eevee, all staring warily at them.
“Vee?”
Judging from their conflicted expressions, it was obvious August’s picnic had landed smack in the middle of their territory.
But, sensing the powerful auras of August and his Pokémon, they dared not approach.
“Eevee, wake up,” August said, gently shaking the drowsy Eevee in his arms. “Go see if they want to join the picnic.”
Eevee blinked sleepily, then, upon seeing the crowd of Eevee gathered before it, lit up in excitement.
“Vee?”
“Vee!”
After a round of rapid-fire, encrypted Eevee-speak, August’s Eevee easily won their trust and ushered them into the picnic.
“So cute!”
Lillie now cradled an Eevee in her left arm and a Zorua in her right. Zorua, for its part, wore a “delighted” expression.
But when Lillie offered it a Pokéblock August had given her earlier, Zorua froze in surprise.
Sitting in Lillie’s arms, munching on the treat, Zorua suddenly thought—maybe being caught wasn’t so bad after all.
At that moment, Lusamine approached August and handed him a folder.
“What’s this…?”
“Hisui Development Plan,” Lusamine replied crisply, her expression all business.
“These last few days, I’ve been watching Jubilife Village’s planning. It’s terribly inefficient in its use of space.”
“And more than that, this persistent rejection of Pokémon is seriously stunting the village’s development.”
“Now’s the time for you to shine, darling!”
August: …
If you’d just left off that last line, I’d be a lot happier!
Still, Lusamine had a point.
August skimmed the development plan she’d written.
No wonder she alone had been able to support the entire Aether Foundation—every issue Lusamine highlighted with Jubilife Village was real, and her solutions were spot-on.
If they could actually implement her suggestions, it wouldn’t be long before Jubilife saw a full-on transformation!
“Thank you, really,” August said sincerely.
The plan was almost entirely handwritten—she’d clearly poured a huge amount of time into it. No wonder she hadn’t been around the past few days.
Hearing his gratitude, Lusamine lit up with a joyful smile. “Don’t mention it. It’s what a wife should do!”
“Voir?”
Gardevoir tensed, instantly alert.
...
Everyone returned to Jubilife Village. August, meanwhile, set out for the Kings’ Arena at the base of Mount Coronet with Arezu.
“The one looking after the frenzied Electrode is Melli. He’s got a terrible attitude, but deep down he’s a good guy. Just… whatever you do, August, don’t get mad at him!” Arezu said nervously.
She’d witnessed August’s return on Rayquaza the day before, so she had a vivid impression of just how formidable he was.
If Melli ticked him off and August let Rayquaza loose with a single [Draco Meteor], the Moonview Arena would be wiped out. So she wanted to give him a heads-up.
Seeing her worried look, August just smiled. “Don’t worry. We’re International Police—we’ve had special training. We never lose our cool.”
“International Police?” Arezu echoed. She’d never heard the term before.
“That’s just another name for our Origin Rocket team,” August said.
“I see!” Arezu nodded rapidly, not pressing further.
In her eyes, August and the Origin Rocket team were already shrouded in enough mystery. If they had more secrets, that just seemed normal.
Soon, they arrived at their destination.
“This is the Moonview Arena!” Arezu introduced.
The arena sat in a valley, dotted with old ruins and columns in the same style as the Pillars of the Spear.
Even from afar, you could hear the crackle of thunder coming from within.
Clearly, the frenzied Electrode was still venting its excess energy inside.
Just as August was about to speak, a surly voice cut in:
“Arezu, what did you bring someone here for?”
August turned to see a figure in Diamond Clan uniform—a blue-haired man in a knit cap—stepping out from the side.
“I brought Mr. August to calm Electrode,” Arezu replied.
Melli’s face darkened, voice stiff. “Go back. Electrode is just fine. It doesn’t need ‘calming’ or anything.”
“It’s Commander Kamado’s orders!” Arezu insisted.
“Kamado should mind his own business. This is Diamond Clan’s problem, not his,” Melli retorted sharply. “Or what, Arezu, are you switching sides to the Galaxy Team now?”
Arezu was at a loss. “But if Electrode keeps raging like this—”
“Isn’t Electrode’s frenzy a good thing? It’s the blessing of Sinnoh the Great! Makes Electrode stronger!” Melli scoffed.
Just as Arezu was about to protest, August finally spoke.
“I actually think you’ve got a point,” he said.
At that, both Arezu and Melli stared at him in disbelief.
Arezu looked defeated. “Mr. August, whose side are you on?”
Melli, meanwhile, nodded approvingly. “You’re not as clueless as I thought.”
But the next moment, August’s tone shifted.
“Still, I’m going to calm Electrode anyway.”
“You—!” Melli grabbed for his Poké Ball, ready to fight.
But before he could even throw it, his whole body went rigid—he couldn’t move at all.
Melli’s face twisted in shock. “What did you do to me?!”
August ignored him, turning instead to the gobsmacked Arezu with a smile. “He’s not wrong. But that doesn’t stop me from doing what I need to do. Let’s go—we’ve wasted enough time already. Any later and we’ll miss dinner!”
With that, he strode toward the sound of thunder.
Arezu glanced at the frozen Melli, muttered an apology, and hurried after August.
Melli was left alone in the valley, shouting after them in vain.
…
August carefully studied the Electrode in front of him, which was constantly discharging crackling bolts of electricity.
He tried to spot anything unusual about this Electrode.
Liligant was [Gigantamaxed], Arcanine had split into two… So what kind of twist would the "llama" pull with Electrode this time?
But after observing for quite a while, August didn’t see anything particularly out of the ordinary.
Guess even the llama is out of tricks!
He couldn’t help but laugh to himself.
Yet just as that thought crossed his mind, Electrode locked onto August.
Sensing the aura radiating from August and confirming it, Electrode suddenly surged with electricity. A golden symbol, very familiar to August, flashed and vanished before a massive ball of electricity began forming in front of Electrode, radiating a menacing energy.
August’s expression changed at once.
He knew it—the llama always had to pull something.
“Mew, [Protect]!” He grabbed Mew off his shoulder and set it in front of him.
Mew immediately threw up an energy barrier, shielding both August and a now thoroughly terrified Arezu.
The next second, the enormous ball of electricity launched forward, slamming into Mew’s shield.
[Gigavolt Havoc]
Inside the shimmering barrier, August watched as golden electricity swallowed everything in sight.
He never expected the llama would actually give Electrode access to a [Z-Move].
A [Z-Move] without a Trainer? Isn’t that against the rules, Electrode?
As he grumbled to himself, the electrical surge began to subside.
[Gigavolt Havoc] was powerful, but it didn’t last long.
When August glanced around, the entire area was a mess—except for the patch of ground still protected by Mew’s shield, every bit of earth around him had been stripped away.
“This is the power of Electrode blessed by Sinnoh the Great!”
He could still hear Melli shouting from somewhere behind.
August found him unbearably noisy, so he shot Mew a look, and the world promptly went silent.
Turning back to Electrode, August didn’t bother sending out another Pokémon—he just patted Mew on the head. “Mew, you’re up!”
“Mew!”
Mew flew forward to confront Electrode, calling out for it to surrender.
Electrode just flashed a sly, crooked smile in response.
Suddenly, a blinding light flared from Electrode.
[Explosion]
BOOM!
The blast swallowed everything nearby.
Arezu’s face instantly filled with worry as she clung to August’s sleeve.
But August didn’t look the slightest bit concerned.
Mew might be a bit slow, but it’s not about to get caught by a telegraphed [Explosion].
Sure enough, as the smoke cleared, the gold-empowered Electrode hadn’t lost the will to fight.
As for Mew…
Well, Mew was clutching the singed tip of its tail, teary-eyed—having slightly miscalculated the distance when it teleported out.
August: …
He silently took back his earlier confidence. He’d given Mew too much credit.
Still, the sting to its tail only made Mew get serious.
With a furious glare fixed on Electrode, blue light flickered in Mew’s eyes.
Electrode suddenly found itself rising helplessly into the air.
It tried unleashing [Thunderbolt] after [Thunderbolt] at Mew, but every blast was blocked by the energy barrier shimmering before Mew.
“Mew!”
A mischievous grin spread across Mew’s face. Using [Psychic], it grabbed Electrode and started bouncing it like a Poké Ball—slamming it down to the ground, then launching it skyward again.
Electrode was soon so dizzy, it could barely tell up from down.
It wasn’t for lack of trying—every time it tried to trigger another [Explosion], Mew would catch on instantly and teleport it far away before it could blow.
After a few failed attempts, Electrode’s energy was almost completely spent.
Mew toyed with Electrode for over ten minutes. Only after confirming it could no longer resist did it reluctantly let go, floating Electrode back down in front of August.
August gazed at the poor Electrode and offered a moment of silent sympathy.
Of all Pokémon to mess with, you just had to pick Mew. Sure, Mew’s not the brightest, but it’s got a wicked streak!
He pulled out the pacifying balm and sprinkled a little on Electrode.
Slowly, the golden light around Electrode faded away.
Perhaps because the [Zap Plate] was currently in August’s possession, there was no [Zap Plate] drop this time—just a single [Electric Z-Crystal].
Better than nothing.
He handed the [Z-Crystal] to Mew, whose eyes were locked on it, as a new toy.
Dusting off his hands, August announced, “Electrode—pacified.”
At the same time, he heard the system notification ring in his mind.
