Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [400]

The scene was familiar: atop Mt. Coronet, Rayquaza and Mewtwo stood ready as always—except this time, Dialga and Palkia had taken on their [Origin Formes].

But honestly, [Origin Forme] Dialga and Palkia were hard to take seriously.

One had suddenly sprouted an Adam’s apple, and the other had lost its arms.

They looked less like gods and more like llamas in cosplay—imitating Arceus, but whether it was a good look was another matter entirely.

Still, August had to admit: Dialga and Palkia were far stronger in [Origin Forme].

But it wasn’t a matter of base stats anymore…

For legendary Pokémon, stats hardly mattered. The real strength of Origin Dialga and Palkia came from their deeper mastery over time and space.

Take Dialga: in its normal form, it could distort time; in [Origin Forme], it could outright destroy or create time.

Upon transformation, Origin Dialga seemed to suffer a momentary bout of “amnesia,” letting go of its feud with Palkia so the two could face Rayquaza and Mewtwo together.

ROAR!

Dialga and Palkia struck battle stances at the same time.

“The real fight’s about to start!” Cogita remarked, entirely unruffled.

Lusamine glanced at her, something sharp in her gaze. Sensing this, Cogita turned and gave Lusamine a gentle smile.

When Cogita looked away, Lusamine’s eyes grew cold and dangerous.

There’s something off about this woman!

But before she could think further, Palkia lunged at August from within the Spear Pillar!

With Dialga no longer blocking it, Palkia unleashed itself.

Both front hooves lifted, then crashed down toward Rayquaza.

CRACK CRACK CRACK—

Countless fractures and creases spiderwebbed through the air itself.

Palkia’s stomp tore the very fabric of space.

Seeing this, Rayquaza’s eyes flashed with caution. Gold light bloomed in its jaws, then a beam of pure energy shot forth!

BOOM!

[Dragon Pulse] collided with the spatial rift, the energy clash instantly shredding the unstable space.

Tiny black holes flickered to life between the Pokémon, only to blink out just as quickly.

Rayquaza and Palkia were locked in fierce combat.

Not to be outdone, Mewtwo charged into battle, already experienced from their last clash on Mt. Coronet.

Mega Mewtwo X gripped its psychic spoon and began to focus.

[Bulk Up]

Mewtwo’s aura surged higher and higher.

Though Origin Dialga’s memory had lapsed, its rational mind remained.

Seeing Mewtwo using [Bulk Up], Dialga’s first instinct was to try and interrupt.

The gem at its throat began to glow, but before it could move, the [Red Chain] suddenly shot out from August’s hand, lashing around Dialga’s neck and strangling any hope of a [Roar of Time].

From outside the Pillar, the others watched as August whipped out the [Red Chain] and Dialga instantly flushed red, twisting desperately to break free.

“As expected of the Boss!” Gold cheered, pumping his fist.

Now’s the time to show my loyalty! Maybe if he’s in a good mood, he’ll forget all about those times I put the debt in his name…

Meanwhile, Mewtwo continued to stack [Bulk Up]—this was the second round now.

Its aura climbed to new heights.

Dialga’s struggles grew wilder, the [Red Chain] creaking ominously…

On the other side, Rayquaza and Palkia’s duel had reached its peak.

The pink pearl on Palkia’s shoulder gleamed, both hooves raised once more and slammed down.

Instantly, a web of fine lines—no, spatial rifts—formed around Rayquaza, slicing toward it.

[Spacial Rend]

Rayquaza’s reflexes were lightning-fast. Gold-green energy wreathed its body, forming a protective shield.

[Protect]

SCREEEEEE—

The shrill sound of rending filled the air as the spatial slashes tore at Rayquaza’s energy shield.

Rayquaza locked eyes with Palkia, pushing back with all its might as the rifts carved at the shield’s edges. The light flickered wildly as both sides held fast.

The struggle was intense on both fronts.

Watching Origin Dialga and Origin Palkia display their power, Kamado went pale. In that moment, he was endlessly thankful he hadn’t lost his head and tried to expel August from Jubilife Village.

Just then, as everyone held their breath—

CRUNCH!

A small but exceptionally crisp sound rang through the air.

Everyone tensed. Was this the moment of victory?

But when they followed the sound, all they saw was Mew by a pillar, chip bag in one hand, half-eaten chip in the other, watching the fight like it was theater.

When everyone turned to look, Mew hurriedly stuffed the chips behind her back, then turned away as if nothing had happened.

“Mew?”

Why is everyone looking at me?

Everyone: “….”

Could you not eat chips at a time like this?

Just as everyone was losing their minds over Mew’s timing, things shifted on the battlefield.

A sudden shattering noise echoed as cracks spidered through Rayquaza’s shield.

Rayquaza roared, gold-green energy flaring, and, just before the shield collapsed, it forced its way out of the lattice of spatial rifts.

Meanwhile, Dialga’s thrashing had reached a fever pitch. The [Red Chain] strained under the pressure.

August decided to release it before it snapped.

Dialga hadn’t expected August to withdraw the chain—it was nothing but good news!

Freed, Dialga could finally unleash its full power.

The hammer-shaped gem at its throat blazed with light.

Just as Dialga began to gather power for another [Roar of Time]

SWISH—!

A blur whipped past. Dialga’s massive body flew backward, smashing into one of the Spear Pillar’s columns.

BOOM!

Those pillars were never designed to withstand the impact of a Dialga. The column broke clean in two, the top half falling to hit Dialga a second time.

Only now did everyone see what had happened.

Mega Mewtwo X hovered in midair, still holding its punching pose.

Before Dialga could unleash [Roar of Time], Mewtwo had stacked two [Bulk Ups] and landed a super-effective [Focus Punch]!

It was devastating!

But even [Focus Punch] wasn’t enough to take down Origin Dialga.

Dialga shook its head, then crawled out from the rubble.

It immediately spat a [Dragon Pulse] at Mewtwo, who dodged with ease.

Mewtwo didn’t counterattack, but instead retreated to August’s side, throwing up a shield to protect him.

Dialga looked genuinely puzzled.

If it still remembered the future, it might know what Mewtwo’s withdrawal meant. But it didn’t.

Rayquaza suddenly let out a deafening roar, head tilted back as gold light shot skyward.

The next instant, the sharp whistling of falling meteors filled the air—a Meteor Shower!

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!

The Spear Pillar was reduced to ruins under the meteor barrage.

Watching this, Kamado felt each meteor strike his own heart.

What was I thinking, wanting to kick August out of Jubilife?

A couple of these meteors is all it’d take to wipe the place off the map!

Dialga was caught off guard by the sudden strike from Rayquaza—its tail flared, gathering the power of time itself and accelerating the flow of time around its body.

As the meteors slammed down, they rapidly weathered, their power halved before they landed.

On Palkia’s side, it was the same—meteors sliced to pieces by [Spacial Rend], the shards barely a threat.

August sighed.

Origin Dialga and Origin Palkia really are tough nuts to crack.

Looks like Rayquaza and Mewtwo alone won’t be enough this time… it’s time to ramp things up!

Luckily, he’d prepared for this.

August laid his hand on his belt.

“Come out, everyone!”

As August tossed his Poké Balls, white light flashed across the battlefield. Celebi, Darkrai, Lugia Jr., and Gardevoir all appeared at his side.

Even Mew, who’d been happily munching chips on the sidelines, was yanked into the fray by August with a snap of the [Red Chain].

“Mewmewmew?” Mew clung to her bag of chips, utterly bewildered.

Seven-on-two!

Honestly, if his own Dialga and Palkia weren’t busy holding down the fort in Kanto, August would have made it nine-on-two.

But seven was more than enough. Origin Dialga and Origin Palkia might be strong, but not invincible.

Facing opponents whose numbers had suddenly doubled—and then some—Dialga and Palkia, who’d just been preparing to fight back, fell silent.

Could anyone call August shameless? Well, compared to past human challengers, this was nothing—most had thrown six Pokémon at them at once, and August’s average here was only 3.5 per legendary.

But to say he wasn’t shameless…

The others had used normal Pokémon. August, on the other hand, was fielding three legendary Pokémon, three mythicals, and a Gardevoir who happened to be holding the [Legendary Plate].

Not even the same league.

Off to the side, Kamado watched August outnumber his opponents and leaned over to Gold. “Is August always like this?”

“Of course!” Gold replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

August had drilled it into them: If you can gang up, never fight fair. If you can overpower, forget about honorable duels.

Kamado: “……”

For the third time that day, he was grateful he’d chosen to back down when he had. Otherwise, who’d be kicking whom out of Jubilife Village right now?

...

Once August brought out Gardevoir and the others, the battle was entirely one-sided.

Rayquaza and Mewtwo still spearheaded the attack.

Gardevoir provided cover.

Darkrai specialized in conjuring black holes, giving space-manipulating Palkia all kinds of trouble.

Celebi manipulated time to disrupt Dialga.

Mew, now pressed into service, used Helping Hand from the rear, cheering Rayquaza and Mewtwo on.

Lugia Jr… was mostly there to soak up experience.

Since they usually sparred and messed around together, August’s Pokémon were perfectly in sync, coordinating effortlessly mid-battle.

Meanwhile, Dialga and Palkia—well, forget coordination; it was a miracle they weren’t sabotaging each other, so their side fell back, inch by inch…

With victory so close he could almost taste it, August suddenly felt his phone buzz at his waist.

He glanced down and saw a pop-up from the golden “Llama App”:

[Origin Pokémon detected nearby.]

[You have new pacification items to claim >>> [Tap to claim]]

August was pretty sure these were the Time Balm and Space Balm—specifically for calming Dialga and Palkia.

But…

He stared at the scene: Palkia and Dialga utterly overwhelmed by his army of Pokémon.

Seriously? Wasn’t this a little late?

He was already seven-on-two, face lost completely, just about to win—and only now the system handed him the balms for calming Dialga and Palkia…

Who was going to make up for his lost dignity?

August was convinced the llama was doing this on purpose, probably for all the times he’d refused to pick it.

Still, late was better than never.

At least it would speed things up; the battle had gone on long enough already.

He tapped [Claim]. Light flashed, and two enormous bags of balm appeared in his hands.

The instant the balms materialized, both Dialga and Palkia—already on the ropes—visibly panicked.

August didn’t toss the balm himself, but handed them off to Gardevoir. “All yours, Gardevoir!”

Gardevoir nodded, then floated the balms toward the legendaries with her psychic power.

Dialga and Palkia’s eyes filled with dread.

Don’t come any closer!

Kanto
Saffron City

Since August-senpai had taken everyone off to Alola, and Gary-senpai was tracking down Suicune, only Yellow, Pearl, and Diamond were left to hold down the fort.

At the moment, Yellow was using the massage techniques she’d learned from Zinnia to knead Palkia’s back.

Meanwhile, Pearl and Diamond were putting on a comedy routine in front of Dialga and Palkia.

Unfortunately, their jokes landed flat—Palkia was already fast asleep, while Dialga just eyed Diamond with curiosity, wondering what special trait this kid had to make Regigigas pick him.

When their final joke bombed, Pearl sighed, totally dejected.

“We failed! Not a single legendary Pokémon was moved by our carefully crafted jokes!”

Diamond rubbed his chin. “But… didn’t we make Mew laugh back at the Battle Frontier?”

Pearl replied weakly, “Mew only laughed because it stole your chips and you didn’t notice.”

“What? My chips?!” Diamond yelped, finally realizing.

Smack!

Pearl bopped Diamond on the head with a rolled-up newspaper. “You’ve got the slowest reaction time ever!”

“Pfft—!”

Yellow couldn’t help laughing.

Even Dialga, observing Diamond’s dopey face, couldn’t hold back.

Pearl, who’d just been shouting, was dumbfounded. “Wait—we did it?”

He hadn’t expected that all his effort with scripted gags would fail, but just Diamond’s clueless antics could actually make Yellow and Dialga laugh.

He felt a sudden surge of inspiration.

Pearl smacked a fist into his palm, looking enlightened. “I get it! I was too focused on jokes, too academic, and forgot that the best comedy comes from real life!”

Just as Pearl was fired up to start writing new material, Dialga’s expression suddenly froze, a strange memory surfacing in its mind.

Out on the lawn, Palkia—dozing in the sun—jerked awake, sweating bullets.

Was that a nightmare just now?

Why did it dream it had turned into [Origin Forme], only to get ganged up on by August and his whole team…
