Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [402]

“A Legendary Pokémon getting caught by a net? That was tactical—I was just lulling them into a false sense of security!”

Gary’s face was flushed as he protested, but August held up a hand. “Easy, no one’s judging you.”

Embarrassing as it was, and as much as it lowered the bar for Legendary Pokémon, Suicune was still a legend.

When the Kanto division caught sight of Gary and Suicune, curiosity filled their eyes—especially Gold, who’d grown up on tales of Suicune and now looked at Gary with unconcealed envy.

“Gary-senpai! Please teach me how to catch Legendary Pokémon!”

He could never hope to imitate August’s methods, but maybe Gary’s would be within reach!

“No problem!” Gary instantly forgot his embarrassment, basking in the attention.

He even made a point of parading Suicune in front of Kamado, hoping to see shock on his face—only to be met with confusion.

“What are you doing?” Kamado asked, deadpan.

Gary hadn’t expected that. “Commander Kamado, aren’t you from Johto? Don’t you know Suicune?”

“Suicune, you mean this Pokémon? Why should I know it?” Nanu replied, utterly puzzled.

August had to step in before Gary made things worse. “Remember, this is before the Bell Tower or the Brass Tower were even built….”

In the original timeline, the towers were constructed seven hundred years ago, burned down a hundred and fifty years ago, and right now, they were over a thousand years in the past. Technically, Suicune wouldn’t be “born” for another 850 years.

“Haha, so that’s how it is…” Gary scratched his head, trying to hide his embarrassment.

So caught up in showing off, he’d forgotten Suicune technically didn’t exist yet!

Suicune, for its part, looked mortified, as if wondering if it was too late to change trainers.

Just then, Lillie approached Suicune hesitantly and asked, “Gary-senpai, can I pet it?”

“And you are…?”

Gary looked at the unfamiliar girl with curiosity.

“I’m Lillie! I’m Professor August’s—”

Gary blurted out, “Lillie? Are you August’s daughter?”

Every head turned at once, attention instantly riveted.

The crowd split into three camps.

First: the “here for the drama” camp, led by Sabrina, with Blue, Cynthia, and the others in the know, watching both August’s and Gary’s reactions with delight.

Second: the “totally stunned” camp—Irida, Arezu, and Kamado—all staring at August in disbelief. They had no idea he already had a daughter!

Third: the “of course” camp. This one was small—just Lusamine.

Correction: there was also the “smiling assassin” camp.

August glanced at Gary, smiling. “Looks like someone’s gotten a bit cocky since catching Suicune…”

The expression on August’s face made Gary shiver. “Wait, August, let me explain—it’s not what you think!”

“Save it. Let’s see if you’ve been slacking on your training lately.”

“August, no, wait—!”

...

When they finally returned to Jubilife Village, they found a group of Galaxy Team members gathered at the gate under Cyllene’s leadership.

The moment they saw August and company, cheers erupted, celebrating the end of the sky’s anomaly.

August took the opportunity to advertise the Origin Rocket Team: “Join the Origin Rocket Team and get a free uniform, learn how to make Pokéblocks, and enjoy veteran perks!”

He was determined to make the Origin Rocket Team bigger and better!

Off to the side, Kamado watched August poaching his subordinates right in front of him. He… honestly didn’t care anymore.

He couldn’t beat August anyway, and there was nothing he could do to stop him.

Might as well let it go.

With Kamado not protesting, quite a few villagers and even some Galaxy Team members seemed tempted to switch over.

But when they noticed Gary mumbling to himself in a corner, they hesitated.

“Uh… is this what working for the Rocket Team is normally like?” one Galaxy Team recruit asked, pointing at Gary. “Does it always get this stressful?”

The poor kid with spiky hair looked downright traumatized.

August answered, “Don’t worry. We operate on an eight-hour workday, weekends off, national holidays, and paid vacation!”

“As for him…” August glanced at Gary. “He’s just too eager to improve—challenged a much stronger trainer and took it hard. He’ll be fine soon, right?”

Gary shivered and nodded vigorously.

Relieved, the Galaxy Team member grinned. “In that case, I’m in!”

As more people joined the Origin Rocket Team, Gary hugged Suicune and shed tears of regret.

August put Gold in charge of registering the new recruits.

Then he returned to the Origin Rocket HQ.

“Ah, finally done!”

He collapsed onto the couch, stretching lazily.

“Mew~!”

Mew copied him, sprawling out on the couch and showing off her round little belly.

August opened his system menu, eyeing the first of his three reward options.

[1. Arceus (Avatar)]

August instinctively looked over at Cogita. Part of him really wanted to see what would happen if he didn’t pick the first option.

But he managed to resist the urge to tempt fate.

After all, they were still on the god-llama’s turf.

And it was just an Arceus avatar—nothing to be afraid of!

It was the real Arceus that he dreaded.

An avatar was nothing—he could mold it however he wanted, right?

So August unhesitatingly picked option one.

A flash of golden light swept across his vision.

Then… nothing.

That’s it?

August was disappointed. He’d half-expected a giant llama to jump out at him, or for Cogita to suddenly transform into Arceus.

[Are you disappointed?]

Cogita’s voice sounded in his head, her tone teasing enough to make August’s hand twitch.

But he quickly calmed himself.

[GardevoirSupremacy]: Telepathy?

[Is it so strange for me to use telepathy? Though I do find your way of speaking rather… amusing.]

[Cogita (traveling)]: Well? How is it?

[GardevoirSupremacy]: …Great. Really.

August laughed awkwardly, inwardly groaning. Guess I’ll have to watch my mouth from now on. No more calling Arceus names…

But that wasn’t the only thing that had changed.

He felt his pocket—a new, ancient-looking Poké Ball with distinctive Hisuian ornamentation had appeared.

August turned it over in his hand, wondering: If I press the recall button, would Cogita get sucked into it?

In the end, he restrained himself—too many people around. He’d try it out later when no one was watching.

He clipped the new Poké Ball to the last slot on his belt.

Then he checked the next set of rewards for subduing Avalugg. With no distractions this time, the choices had to be real.

Three rewards appeared before him.

[1. Tera Orb]

[2. Tera-type Change Meal Recipe]

[3. Tera Energy Recharge Device]

He already had a [Tera Orb]—if he wanted another, he could just ask Geeta.

The recipe for changing Tera types was useful, but he could just buy a Tera-type meal at the Treasure Eatery.

But the third reward…

[Tera Energy Recharge Device]?”

That meant he could recharge his [Tera Orb]?

And his was out of power.

So, after a moment’s thought, August picked the third option.

A golden flash.

A tube-shaped device appeared in front of him.

He pulled out the [Tera Orb] Geeta had given him—it was nearly depleted after using it for Gardevoir’s [Terastallization], the glow completely faded.

He popped it into the charger. The device immediately lit up.

A cheerful chime, like the Pokémon Center healing jingle, sounded as the fully charged [Tera Orb] popped out.

August glanced at Mew munching chips and Eevee watching TV.

His gaze locked onto Mew.

His [Tera Orb] lit up in his hand, aiming at her.

A burst of light—Mew was suddenly encased in crystal.

CRACK!

The crystal shattered.

Now Mew sparkled, a giant purple eye above her head.

The added weight made her lose her balance, and she toppled off the couch, chip bag and all.

A moment later, covered in chip crumbs, Mew crawled out from under the sofa.

Still topped with that huge purple eye, she could barely hover straight. Furious, she zipped over and started pounding on August with her tiny fists.

“Mew!”

Mew made it clear: she was very upset, and it would take at least two plates of cupcakes to forgive him.

August immediately surrendered. “Okay, okay, I give in—you can have anything you want!”

Mew froze mid-air, a look of suspicion on her face.

Did I ask for too little?

He returned Mew to normal, sent Sirfetch’d off to bake her cupcakes, and turned to his final system reward.

This was for subduing Dialga and Palkia.

[1. Adamant Crystal]

[2. Lustrous Globe]

[3. Griseous Core!]

Each reward corresponded to Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.

August realized he still hadn’t seen Giratina—at the Spear Pillar, Giratina had shown up, but now, after all this chaos, not a sign. What was Giratina up to?

He glanced at Volo in the corner.

Volo looked up, blank.

But when August asked, Volo’s expression changed. “August, how can you accuse me like that! Do I look like someone who’d collude with Giratina?”

“You want to meet the Sinnoh Sovereign or not?”

Volo froze, hesitating. “…Fine, I did meet Giratina. But I can’t contact it now.”

August eyed him suspiciously, but saw no sign of a lie.

Maybe Giratina saw two Dialga and two Palkia and noped out, cutting contact with Volo to save its own skin…

As August was about to leave, Volo grabbed his arm. “So when do we meet the Sinnoh Sovereign?”

“Haven’t you been seeing them every day?” August replied.

Volo blinked. “Every day?”

“Look—” August nodded in Cogita’s direction.

Volo followed his gaze and saw… Cogita?

Cogita felt their eyes and glanced back with a smile.

Volo was frozen in place.

Cogita is… the Sinnoh Sovereign?

August must be messing with me. There’s no way…

But then Volo remembered something.

The first time he’d met Giratina, he’d seen Cogita again right after, and Cogita had said—

Such a troublesome child…

At the time, Volo thought she was scolding him for disappearing for days. But maybe that wasn’t all she meant?

August ignored Volo and turned back to the system menu.

Looking over the three choices, he ultimately picked the [Griseous Core].

For one simple reason: picking either Dialga’s or Palkia’s item would make things unfair for the other.

He wasn’t about to make that rookie mistake!

Besides, maybe picking the [Griseous Core] would lure Giratina out.

...

Volo had a long, private conversation with Cogita before he left.

August didn’t know what they discussed, but he did notice that when Volo departed, he looked lost—like a man who’d lost his purpose.

“What a pity—I was just about to ask if he wanted to join Origin Rocket Team.” August shook his head, sighing.

At that moment, Zinnia sidled over. “August, when are we heading to Alola?”

She could hardly wait another day.

Heaven knew how she’d survived so long in Hisui!

She couldn’t stay here a moment longer.

August gave her a look. “What’s the rush?”

But, honestly, she had a point—it was time to return to Alola. If they took any longer, Giovanni might show up at their door.

But there was still one thing left to do.

...

Diamond Clan Hideout

“Adaman, have you decided yet? Will you join the Origin Rocket Team?” August asked the hesitant leader.

Adaman glanced at August, then at Dialga behind him.

Still wavering, August gave him another nudge: “Irida’s already agreed to join! Palkia’s thrilled about her decision!”

Hearing that, and unwilling to be left behind, Adaman finally nodded. “August-sama!”

With that, the Diamond Clan officially shifted from being under the Galaxy Team to serving as part of the Origin Rocket Team.

August grinned and patted Adaman’s shoulder. “Good. You won’t regret this choice!”
