I, Noelle, Persuade With Reason! [4]

Following the sound of laughter, Noelle jogged to the edge of the circular ruins in Wolvendom and looked down. What she saw was a pack of over a dozen silver-gray wolves—and, right in the center, a little girl in bright red.

Noelle breathed a sigh of relief. She’d finally found Klee.

The wolves, whether sitting or lying down, surrounded Klee in a gentle circle, not unlike a group of well-behaved huskies.

Tiny and vivid in her red outfit, Klee stood out among the sea of silver-gray beasts.

Nearby, Razor lay curled up in the embrace of a wolf, seemingly dozing.

Klee’s smile was so infectious that Noelle felt herself being healed just by watching, the worries the Abyss Order had brought with them quietly melting away.

Klee is just too adorable, Noelle thought to herself, a gentle warmth filling her chest.

When she first arrived in this world, Noelle had been lost—torn between the longing for her past and the worries for her future. And it was during that time that the “little sun,” Klee, had appeared, soothing Noelle’s anxieties with her innocent, beaming smile.

It was then that Noelle decided: she was going to raise Klee as her own daughter.

After just ten days together, Noelle and Klee had grown incredibly close.

Each morning, Noelle would help Klee get breakfast ready. At night, Klee wouldn’t sleep until Noelle had finished telling her a story.

Noelle had even joined Klee for one of her infamous “fish-blasting” outings—and ended up locked up in solitary with her by Acting Grand Master Jean.

Thinking back to the two of them tinkering with new bomb designs in the confinement room, Noelle couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Just then, the wolf pack finally noticed her presence, scrambling upright and crouching low with warning growls.

Noelle ignored their threat display, hopping down and striding straight toward Klee.

“Noelle!” Klee’s eyes went wide with surprise, but she immediately spread her arms, dashing on short legs to throw herself into Noelle’s arms.

Noelle bent down and swept Klee up, the two of them nuzzling their foreheads together affectionately.

“Are you hungry?” Noelle asked, ever the worrier, always afraid Klee wasn’t eating enough.

“Not at all!” Klee patted her tummy, looking immensely proud of herself.

“Oh? I was thinking of making boiled fish for lunch—sound good?” Noelle prompted.

“I wanna eat!” Klee’s face lit up. She loved Noelle’s cooking—her food tasted nothing like the usual Mondstadt fare, it was food from other nations!

Noelle smiled and kissed Klee on the forehead, making a note to catch a few fish on the way back.

The ignored wolves were getting restless, their growls rising in volume. Klee was a friend of Razor’s and accepted by the pack—but Noelle was not. She was an outsider, a human radiating dangerous power!

Still, even the strongest wolves didn’t dare attack recklessly. Their instincts told them to be wary of Noelle.

Razor tried to calm the pack, but to no avail.

Holding Klee, Noelle walked up to Razor.

A few wolves beside Razor bared their fangs at Noelle, but also ducked behind him, clearly nervous.

“Don’t be afraid.” Noelle reached out and ruffled Razor’s wild hair, trying to reassure him.

Razor nodded stiffly, his clear eyes studying Noelle curiously.

Aside from the man who taught him to fight, Lisa—who loved to call him “little wolf”—and Klee, who was always “too hot,” Noelle was only the fourth human he’d ever met. She seemed gentle enough…

“I…not…afraid,” Razor managed, his command of human language still a bit clumsy.

“You’re amazing. Here—a gift for you.” Noelle suddenly felt like feeding him, so she dug out a slab of meat Draff had given her and pressed it into Razor’s hands.

“Tha…thank you.” Razor took the meat, eyes narrowing contentedly, and didn’t resist when Noelle tousled his hair again.

Seeing this, Klee also reached out to tug on Razor’s hair, clearly an old habit.

The wolf pack, now completely confused, thought Razor had been captured by Noelle. Their growls rose to a fever pitch—fear mixed with anger.

As the howling swelled, the atmosphere began to change: mist thickened, the air grew icy cold, and an eerie glow pulsed from the ruins’ walls.

At that, the wolves abandoned Razor in panic and scattered. Razor’s face filled with worry.

“Hurry…leave…danger…” Razor had barely spoken when the sound of footsteps echoed in the mist.

Noelle calmly handed Klee to Razor and stepped forward, positioning herself in front of them.

Then she activated her [Breastplate], looking up, eyes locked on the silhouette taking shape in the fog.

The footsteps drew nearer, until finally, the massive, icy blue figure stood clear before Noelle.

“Long time no see, Wolf King of the North Wind.” Noelle gazed up, meeting Andrius’s eyes. It was her first time facing a god head-on since arriving in Teyvat.

Andrius, King of the North Wind, had once vied for the title of Anemo Archon alongside Decarabian, the King of the Tower, and Barbatos—only to choose, in the end, to merge with the land and protect this territory.

The wolf king was enormous, exuding an aura of overwhelming power. By comparison, Noelle’s small frame looked utterly fragile.

Yet, after having bested the Wolf King so many times in the game, Noelle felt little fear. The battle-hardened Andrius, for his part, did not underestimate Noelle either. Their gazes met—one human, one wolf.

“Human, you know me?” The Wolf King was puzzled. Noelle’s geo energy was dense, reminiscent of a god’s avatar—but looking closer, he saw only a teenage human girl. That made him hesitate.

“Yes, we’ve fought many times before.” Noelle took a few steps closer, wanting a better look at the Wolf King.

“Hmph. Human, you overstep yourself.” Andrius took a step back, certain now he’d never met Noelle before. Anger flickered in his eyes. For a human to lie to a god? She needed to be taught a lesson.

He raised a giant paw and struck down at Noelle’s geo shield.

“Noelle!” Klee, startled, whipped out her spellbook.

“Klee…” Razor, desperate to protect her, tried to warn Noelle.

But in the very next moment, something miraculous happened: Noelle’s geo shield barely even trembled, while the Wolf King’s paw shattered into icy fragments.

Klee and Razor stared, mouths agape. Noelle waved reassuringly at Klee, letting her know she was fine.

The Wolf King lifted his ruined paw, confusion plain on his face as the shards scattered in the air.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean for that to happen,” Noelle apologized, genuinely embarrassed—she hadn’t wanted to hurt him.

Though Noelle was apologizing, the Wolf King couldn’t help but feel slighted. But he wasn’t unreasonable. Having rushed here without gathering his full power, he decided to let it go.

“Human, your strength is impressive—stronger even than Varka. Ah, it’s been over two thousand years since I’ve had a proper fight. When you have time, come challenge me. If you can defeat me, I’ll reward you with some artifacts. Don’t worry—my spirit is bound to this land. I cannot die.”
