Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [84]

There was a wish even the witch herself hadn’t realized.

Not as someone’s shadow, not as the “saint” imagined by others.

But as herself—Jeanne d’Arc Alter, a unique existence, to truly live her own life in this world.

It was, at heart, a simple wish.

Every living thing in this world has the right to survive—even a witch born of rage and curses is no exception.

But it was also a wish that was almost impossible to realize.

Setting aside whether this soon-to-be-destroyed country could even provide a space for ordinary people to survive… if you looked just at Jeanne Alter herself, it was clear she didn’t have the ability to live alone in this world.

In truth, she was like a newborn.

She might have inherited all the memories of the “Maid of Orléans”… but counting from her summoning, she’d only been in this world for just over a month.

At her core, she was a completely new person—one born as an adult, armed with borrowed memories and a fury even she couldn’t contain.

Looks like this isn’t going to be easy.

Trying to let Jeanne Alter live once as a true, independent “person”—that was going to be a real challenge.

But Bluey felt a surge of excitement.

He liked this kind of challenge—and he’d already come up with an idea.

No one lives as a person completely alone… To truly live in this world, you have to interact with others.

Of course, expecting Jeanne Alter to get along with ordinary humans is asking too much for both sides.

But… thanks to the Holy Grail War, this world has two “monsters” who’ve been summoned—dragons, just like her. Maybe she’ll find something in common with them.

Bluey looked to the east.

There, two dragon-type Servants—creatures rejected by the world, yet summoned precisely because the world was already broken—were making their way together, arguing all the while.

All right. Let’s go with them!

Having pinpointed their general location, Bluey grabbed Jeanne Alter’s armor in his claws and soared into the sky.

“Hey, hey! Where are you taking me?!”

Bluey carried Jeanne Alter eastward.

They flew over villages, glimpsing burnt fields of wheat; soared above cities, seeing ruins where buildings once stood; swept through dense forests haunted by wandering spirits.

At last, they reached a valley beside a stream.

Before they’d even landed, they saw two tiny figures standing on opposite banks of the water.

And the noise—their bickering—was at least a hundred times louder than their bodies!

“You damn squirrel from the east!”

“Hmph, you stinky western frilled lizard!”

“Japanese ratsnake!”

“Mexican beaded lizard!”

“Pit viper!”

“Grass lizard!”

“Aaaaaargh—!”

The two little ones, neither willing to back down, looked like a pair of cats with their fur standing on end, each guarding her own patch and hurling creative insults at the “enemy.”

“Are those Servants?”

Up in the sky, Jeanne Alter immediately realized—the two girls below had to be Servants. But they weren’t hers.

No, they were summoned by this land itself—specifically to oppose her.

“They’re the enemy!”

Stunned, Jeanne Alter opened her mouth to say something—

But just then, Bluey’s claws suddenly loosened—dropping her from nearly a hundred meters up, straight down.

“Putain!!!”

A word that’s vulgar even by French standards—the kind of cursing only a farmgirl from the French countryside could know!

Jeanne Alter plummeted from the sky.

For a Servant, a hundred meters wasn’t much, especially with a stream below to break the fall—no risk of dying.

But as entrances went, this was nothing if not dramatic.

SPLASH—

Landing in the stream, Jeanne Alter sent up a great spray of water, shocking the two bickering girls on the shore.

“Who’s that?”

“Don’t be stupid, she’s the enemy!”

The blue-haired, eastern “snake-girl” loli was clearly warier than her counterpart—the pink-haired, western “dragon-girl” loli.

They could both sense the aura of destruction radiating from Jeanne Alter—a presence that would make any Servant fighting to “save the world” feel sick to their core, marking her as the enemy.

But, well—then again…

“She’s here to destroy the world, right?”

“Yeah… seems that way.”

“But what’s that got to do with us? Are you planning to save the world?”

“Hmm… I don’t really want to.”

“So if that’s the case, maybe she’s not our enemy after all.”

The two odd little girls, now standing shoulder-to-shoulder, looked on in mild confusion at the drenched but still prideful black witch.

Can anyone explain what she’s even so proud of?

The two “monster lolis” watched Jeanne Alter with curiosity.

Of course, their guard was still up—if she attacked, they’d strike back in an instant.

But right now, Jeanne Alter was clearly holding back, not making the first move.

Are you kidding? I’m not some reckless hero. There’s no way I’d take on a two-against-one fight I’m sure to lose!

“So what’s up with that white dragon?”

“I treated it so well, and it betrayed me?!”

At that moment, Jeanne Alter was furious.

Betrayal! That was blatant betrayal! If I ever make it back alive, I’ll make that ungrateful white dragon—

“Haooo—”

Suddenly, a cheerful dragon’s roar echoed down.

With a big catch dangling from his mouth, Bluey swooped down between Jeanne Alter and the two little monsters, looking incredibly pleased with himself.

He was holding a huge white fish.

A nearly meter-long fish, still thrashing wildly.

“Whoa—!”

“Look at that white dragon! It caught a fish that big, no problem!”

“And you—also a dragon—couldn’t even catch a fish the size of your hand. Aren’t you ashamed?”

“Shut up! I’m a dragon-girl, not a dragon!”
