Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [425]

August was woken up the next morning by Eevee’s paws to the face.

No matter how soft those little paw pads were, getting kicked in the face still hurt.

Who knew what kind of dream Eevee had been having? Even as August picked her up by the scruff, she was still flailing around.

With a dark look, August tossed Eevee onto the bed next to Mew, then turned to Gardevoir, who was already wide awake. “Good morning, Gardevoir!”

Gardevoir glanced at him but said nothing.

A pulse of psychic power: freshly ironed clothes floated over, dressing August with perfect precision.

Toothpaste squeezed itself onto his toothbrush. A towel was prepped for his face. In just a few minutes, August’s entire morning routine was finished, fully automated.

Refreshed, August glanced between Gardevoir and Mew, who was sprawled on her back, limbs akimbo, belly exposed, still snoring and drooling in her sleep.

Nothing like a side-by-side comparison to really see the gap…

But not every Pokémon was as hopeless as Mew or Eevee. Flutter Mane flitted over from who-knows-where, offering August a glass of water.

“Mane~!”

August patted Flutter Mane on the head.

“Let’s go. Leave those two behind—we’re getting breakfast!”

So August headed out with Flutter Mane and Gardevoir, leaving Eevee and Mew behind, blissfully unaware as they continued to snooze.

...

Restaurant

August wasn’t even the earliest riser. As he entered, he spotted Iono in the middle of a livestream, her Rotom Phone floating in front of her.

When she saw August, Iono quickly paused the stream and waved. “Morning, August!”

“Up streaming so early, Iono? Take a break, get some breakfast!” August called.

“I’ve skipped streams way too much! If I don’t get my hours in, I won’t hit my monthly quota!” Iono sighed reflexively.

Then she realized—she’d just had a stream blooper, hadn’t she?

While she was talking, the Rotom Phone panned over, capturing August in the frame.

Viewers in Iono’s stream lost it.

Especially after August waved at the chat.

The comment feed exploded:

[That’s August—the World Champion!]
[New viewers, huh? Don’t know that August is a regular here too?]
[August is in Paldea? Did he come just to see Iono?]

Seeing where the conversation was headed, Iono jumped in: “August came to Paldea for business—”

[Streamer’s flustered—just admit it, you’re panicking…]
[Iono in shambles.jpg]
[Wait, does this mean…]

The stream chat was getting further and further off-topic, and Iono was beginning to freeze up.

She didn’t know if it was safe to mention Area Zero or not—so she just stood there, feeling helpless.

In the end, it was August who rescued her. “I’m mostly here to keep an eye on Iono—to supervise her while she edits the documentary!”

[A documentary? August is starring in a documentary?!]
[No wonder Iono always had Bellibolt lugging that camera everywhere!]
[Can’t wait~]

August had successfully redirected the chat.

Normally, Iono would have been relieved, but at the mention of the documentary, her face grew troubled.

She’d finished most of the edits by now, but nothing seemed good enough. She wanted something that would go viral the moment it dropped—not just another run-of-the-mill doc.

But inspiration was hard to force.

She looked up, ready to get back to her stream—

And saw August, already deep in conversation with the viewers, engagement and live numbers skyrocketing beyond anything she’d ever seen.

Iono’s eyes widened in disbelief.

This was supposed to be my stream!

For some reason, she suddenly felt she’d been NTR’d.

And, whether by accident or the Rotom’s design, her face of utter dismay was perfectly captured and broadcast to countless viewers.

[Iono: Oh no, my stream’s been hijacked!]

...

Iono quickly ended the morning stream—she felt like if she kept going, there was no telling how many disasters she might rack up!

After the stream, everyone gradually gathered in the restaurant.

Penny piped up: “A-August, are you heading out to look for Miraidon and Koraidon next?”

“Of course,” August said, looking at her curiously. “Why do you ask?”

“Um… when are we leaving?” Penny looked anxious.

She’d suddenly remembered last night that she hadn’t gotten permission from the school to leave. If she missed too many classes, she’d be marked absent—and she’d just returned not long ago. If she skipped now, she might get expelled again.

August chuckled at her worried look. “Don’t worry. I’ll talk to Geeta.”

Penny let out a deep sigh of relief.

“And why do you think I came to Levincia just to sightsee, anyway?” August asked.

Penny was confused—then her eyes went wide. “Wait, does that mean—”

“That’s right.” August pulled out the detector Turo had given him. A red dot showed Miraidon’s signal not far from Levincia.

He was about to say more when Mew flew over, Eevee in her arms.

Seeing the breakfast nearly gone, Mew looked as if she’d been struck by lightning.

Of course, August wouldn’t really skip Mew’s breakfast.

He wasn’t a monster.

He ordered new breakfasts for Mew and Eevee, watching as they dug in before pulling out his phone. Just as he turned it on, Giovanni messaged him.

[Giovanni]: I’ve spoken to Silver. I understand everything now.

August: ?

You “understand everything”?

He didn’t know what Silver had told him, but it seemed Giovanni had accepted his new “International Police” identity without further doubts.

August perked up, mentally giving Silver a thumbs up.

After a moment’s thought, he messaged Giovanni:

[GardevoirSupremacy]: How are things on your end?

He didn’t push Giovanni to do anything, just showed concern, like any good superior.

[Giovanni]: I’m in a forest. No landmarks anywhere, just a few Poké Balls on me… My memory’s still gone. These Poké Balls—are they all my Pokémon?

[GardevoirSupremacy]: That’s right, they’re yours. But be careful with the blue mesh-patterned one—that Pokémon is extremely dangerous. Do not open it!

A while passed with no response.

[GardevoirSupremacy]: Are you there?

Finally, Giovanni replied.

[Giovanni]: …Is it this one? [photo]

August went silent, a cold sweat breaking out.

In the photo, Necrozma’s black body lay sprawled in the forest, its bulk having flattened a whole patch of trees.

The only silver lining was that Necrozma seemed to be in a deep sleep.

August breathed out in relief and typed furiously:

[GardevoirSupremacy]: Quickly, return it to its Poké Ball! (sweating emoji)

If Necrozma woke up and rampaged, it’d be catastrophic. Giovanni couldn’t control Necrozma even at his best, let alone now with amnesia.

Sure, August wanted to arrest Giovanni—but he wanted him alive, not in pieces courtesy of Necrozma.

【Giovanni]: Sorry, I lost my memory.

[GardevoirSupremacy]: It’s fine. I understand.

Giovanni opened the rest of his Poké Balls—almost every Pokémon inside was unconscious, badly injured. Only Beedrill could barely stand.

August remembered: that wasn’t the state Giovanni’s team had been in when he fled. Deoxys, at least, should’ve still been able to fight. Now even Deoxys was out cold.

Just what had Giovanni gone through in Ultra Space…

As August frowned in thought, Giovanni messaged again.

[GardevoirSupremacy]: What should I do now? I’m hungry…

August felt less like he was talking to the world’s most notorious villain and more like he was playing some kind of text-based survival game.

[GardevoirSupremacy]: First, find food. See if there are any berries on the trees nearby.

A while later…

【Giovanni: [photo] Is this one okay?】

[GardevoirSupremacy]: A Sitrus Berry? A bit tart and refreshing, but edible. Just don’t eat too many at once—it’ll give you a stomachache.

[GardevoirSupremacy]: Sitrus Berries are commonly used for ice cream, but in moderation, you’ll be fine.

August ran through the regions in his mind, trying to remember where wild Sitrus grew, hoping to narrow down Giovanni’s location—but Sitrus wasn’t exactly rare, showing up all over Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola…

He gave up.

A while later, Giovanni checked in again.

[Giovanni]: I ate. Now what?

[GardevoirSupremacy]: Do you have any empty Poké Balls? If so, try to catch a wild Pokémon nearby—your Beedrill won’t last much longer.

[Giovanni]: I think so…

[Giovanni]: I found a wild Pokémon… Wooper? Odd, how do I know its name?

[Giovanni]: I caught the Wooper! Beedrill can’t fight anymore…

[GardevoirSupremacy]: Good. Take Wooper and avoid wild Pokémon if you can. Keep moving in one direction until you find signs of people. As soon as you know your location, contact me and I’ll come get you!

[Giovanni]: Understood!

[GardevoirSupremacy]: If anything comes up, let me know!

August closed the chat, half exasperated, half amused.

Never thought I’d be giving Giovanni wilderness survival tips…

But it was worth it. As long as he could pin down Giovanni’s location, then… well, just wait.

August chuckled darkly.

Zinnia shivered, shooting August a wary look.

That laugh is never a good sign. He better not have me in his sights…

She decided to change the subject—quickly.

“August, how’s Gary doing after the concert last night?”

August was shaken from his scheming by Zinnia’s question. “No idea. Why not ask him yourself?”

Nemona should’ve caught up to Gary by now.

He opened the group chat.

[GardevoirSupremacy]: @CallMeMasterGary Still alive?

[CallMeMasterGary]: (grudge) Was it you who sent someone after me, August?】

[GardevoirSupremacy]: Who?

[CallMeMasterGary]: That student council president, Nemona… She’s been glued to me, insisting on a battle!

[GardevoirSupremacy]: So just battle her, what’s the problem?

[CallMeMasterGary]: I did! But she wouldn’t accept the loss—said she’ll beat me next time for sure!

[GardevoirSupremacy]: LOL

[CallMeMasterGary]: Where are you guys? I need to hide from her…

[GardevoirSupremacy]: Hm? Sorry, bad signal here…

Gary, back at his hotel, slapped his phone down on the bed.

Bad signal, my foot—save it for a Ghost-type!

But before he could finish complaining, he heard a knock at the door.

Nemona’s voice called from the hallway: “Gary Oak? I’m here to challenge you!”

Gary froze. She’d even tracked him to the hotel?

After a moment’s thought, he pinched his voice and said, “No Gary Oak here, you’ve got the wrong room!”

Outside, Nemona sounded surprised: “Huh? Wrong room? Sorry for bothering you!”

He heard her footsteps fade away.

Gary sagged with relief. Nemona was scarier than Ash—what kind of normal person would chase a rival all the way from Mesagoza to Montenevera just for a rematch?

She would!

Clearly, this hotel wasn’t safe. Time to get out of here.

Gary hastily packed up and prepared to bolt.

But as soon as he stepped out the door, he felt a hand clap down on his shoulder.

He turned, stiff as a board—only to see Nemona beaming at him, sunshine bright. “Found you at last, Mr. Gary! Come on, let’s battle—I’ve switched up my lineup, and I won’t go down so easily this time!”

“Why the long face, Mr. Gary? Isn’t battling fun?”

Gary: “…..”

You tell me.
