Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [427]

Of course, the thing about "being popular with Pokémon" was just a lie he’d made up to mess with Gary.

August was well aware that aside from the [Power of Viridian's] aura he emitted, the real reason Miraidon felt close to him was simply because he held its Poké Ball.

Taking Miraidon's Poké Ball from his pocket, August wasn’t surprised when the Pokémon became even more affectionate upon seeing it.

Realizing he'd been tricked, Gary scowled. "Was that necessary, August?"

August patted Miraidon's head, nodding earnestly. "I thought it was pretty funny."

Gary: "..."

Meanwhile, after searching around the cave, Arven discovered half-eaten Herba Mystica roots.

"Miraidon must’ve come here seeking Herba Mystica to recover its strength," Arven noted, turning to August expectantly.

After witnessing August’s feats firsthand, Arven was convinced he could handle anything. If anyone here could heal Miraidon, it was him.

Feeling Arven's hopeful gaze, August said nothing, merely gesturing silently.

Gengar immediately leapt from August’s shadow, appearing with a cheerful cry: “Gon-ga!”

Reaching into its belly, Gengar rummaged around, then pulled out—

A bag of chips?

Miraidon eyed the snack curiously.

August: "...Not that."

Gengar playfully stuck out its tongue and searched again. After a moment, it produced a box of Pokéblocks.

Opening the box released a tantalizing aroma, filling the cave instantly.

Gulp.

August distinctly heard Mew swallowing on his shoulder.

Even Suicune couldn’t resist staring hungrily at the container.

August handed a Pokéblock first to Miraidon.

As Miraidon swallowed the Pokéblock, a bright glow enveloped it, quickly revitalizing its weakened form.

Naturally, August wasn’t stingy, sharing the Pokéblocks generously with Suicune, Gengar, Mew, and Mabosstiff.

Finally, August looked toward Gardevoir.

"Gardevoir, are you sure you don't want one?"

Gardevoir rolled her eyes, fully aware of August's teasing intentions. She turned away disdainfully.

Feigning disappointment, August put the Pokéblock box back into Gengar's stomach pouch.

Seeing Miraidon now fully recovered, August knew their goal here was accomplished.

"Alright, let's go."

Just as August moved to return Miraidon to its Poké Ball, the Pokémon shook its head and lowered its body, crouching down.

August understood immediately. "You want me to ride you?"

Miraidon nodded. Without hesitation, August climbed onto its back.

Mew hopped from his shoulder to sit in front, while Gardevoir took her place behind him.

The moment August gripped the handles, Miraidon transformed into its riding form and sped out of the cave.

"So cool!" Gary’s eyes sparkled with envy.

Suicune, standing beside him: "?"

...

Since Suicune outright refused to carry him, Gary had no choice but to ride Arcanine back to the hotel.

"Come on, Suicune, don’t stay mad at me!"

Gary coaxed, attempting to smooth things over.

Suicune pointedly ignored him, but Gary persisted relentlessly—using tactics he'd shamelessly learned from August—until Suicune’s attitude gradually softened.

Just as Suicune’s mood seemed to improve, August suddenly called out: "We're heading out to find Koraidon now. Gary, wanna come along?"

Gary instantly perked up. "Koraidon? Where?"

Suicune: "???"

Gary yelped in pain. "Ow! Suicune, let go!"

Watching Suicune biting Gary’s arm, August chuckled shamelessly.

This was just pathetic.

August shook his head smugly. He’d never had these sorts of issues, no matter how many Pokémon he had.

In the end, Suicune released Gary, but by then Gary was too exhausted and sore, reluctantly deciding to rest at the hotel.

...

Poco Path

"August, are you sure Koraidon would be in a place like this?" Zinnia asked skeptically.

She glanced at the local Pokémon around them. A Pawmi had approached, gently rubbing its cheeks with its tiny paws, looking unbearably cute.

Koraidon doesn’t seem like it'd stay somewhere so peaceful…

As she thought this, Zinnia reached down to pet Pawmi’s fluffy head.

Seeing her lean closer, Pawmi excitedly stood on its hind legs, reaching out to hug her hand.

"Wait!" Iono shouted urgently, but it was already too late.

Pawmi grabbed Zinnia’s hand, releasing an electric shock into her body.

Zzzt-zzt

Zinnia stood frozen, hair standing straight up and smoke puffing from her mouth.

The Pawmi, previously "affectionate," shook its ears and quickly vanished into the tall grass.

August placed a Cheri Berry into Zinnia’s mouth, swiftly curing her paralysis.

Zinnia growled angrily, "Paldean Pokémon are too rude!"

August shook his head calmly. "You were careless. The Pokédex clearly states Pawmi are highly vigilant. You reached out suddenly—it was bound to shock you."

"Lillie, don't follow Zinnia’s bad example. Let me show you the proper way to approach wild Pokémon."

August took out a Pokéblock, releasing some of the aura from [Power of Viridian], and beckoned gently toward another Pawmi.

Initially cautious, Pawmi’s nose twitched curiously at the scent of Pokéblocks. Unable to resist the delicious aroma, it carefully approached August, accepting the Pokéblock and nibbling happily.

While Pawmi ate, August stroked the soft fur on its head.

Lillie mimicked August’s actions, successfully enticing a Pawmi of her own and petting it gently, a delighted smile spreading across her face.

Zinnia scoffed silently. I'm totally not jealous.

Suddenly, August’s detector beeped loudly.

He gently nudged the Pawmi away, reluctantly retrieving the device. "It’s close."

August released Miraidon again, hopping onto its back.

Lillie took the front seat, and Iono sat behind August.

Zinnia: "Hey, what about me?"

"No more room! We'll head out first. Catch up later!"

Miraidon instantly shot forward in a bolt of electric light, leaving Zinnia behind.

"August, you jerk!" Zinnia grumbled at their disappearing figures, before turning towards the Pawmi that lingered behind, still looking longingly after August.

Zinnia grinned. "Come here, little guy…"

Pawmi trembled fearfully at her approach.

Zzzt-zzt

Electricity flashed again.

...

August stopped at the cave’s entrance. "This should be the place."

Lillie glanced worriedly behind them. "I thought I heard Zinnia’s voice earlier… Is she alright?"

August waved dismissively. "Don’t worry. Even if every Pokémon around here teamed up, they couldn't scratch her Goodra. She’s fine."

After considering this, Lillie nodded confidently, dismissing Zinnia’s plight and turning toward the cave.

"Is Koraidon really inside?" she asked curiously.

"The detector points here," August replied, just as a ferocious roar echoed from within.

The sound carried anger and threat.

August didn't react, but Lillie immediately released Zorua, while Iono sent out her Bellibolt. After getting permission from August, Iono started her livestream, and the trio stepped inside.

Within the cave, they saw clearly:

A pack of Houndour, led by several Houndoom, was attacking Koraidon.

Though Koraidon’s roars carried defiance, its weakened state left it helpless against the assault.

Looks like even dragons fall prey to dogs when weakened, August mused dryly, finding the idiom oddly fitting.

Iono’s stream exploded with viewers:

[Finally! Iono’s live again! Wait, what's that Pokémon?!]
[Cave exploration today?]

"Good morning, afternoon, evening! Hello! Welcome to Iono’s electrifying stream!"

"Today, we're with Mr. August, searching for the legendary Pokémon from the Scarlet Book, the ‘Winged King’—Koraidon!"

The chat erupted with disbelief:

[Legendary Pokémon capture? Free viewing?!]
[I never imagined I'd witness this live!]
[Iono and August combo—this is amazing!]

The Pokémon halted their confrontation briefly, all turning simultaneously toward August’s group.

Facing their gaze, Lillie instinctively took two steps back before deciding she couldn't embarrass August and stepped bravely forward again.

August, utterly calm, even gave Lillie advice: "Good instincts. When surrounded by wild Pokémon, never show fear."

Lillie thoughtfully asked, "So, staying confident stops attacks?"

August shook his head. "No. Showing strength buys you time. Then, run—fast. The sudden contrast confuses them, giving you a better chance at escape."

Chat exploded again:

[That’s wisdom!]
[Insightful advice from a true pro.]
[August, my new idol!]

Of course, August had no intention of running.

With a nod, Miraidon moved instantly, streaking like lightning, knocking every attacking Pokémon unconscious.

The chat lost its collective mind:

[What Pokémon is THAT?!]

Iono announced proudly, "That’s Miraidon—the legendary ‘Iron Serpent’ from the Violet Book!"

Viewers flooded chat with awe.

Yet, seeing Miraidon, Koraidon prepared for battle—tension flaring between them due to the professors’ differing philosophies.

Miraidon scoffed disdainfully.

Miraidon: “Join us! August gives unlimited Pokéblocks!”

Koraidon refused, growling weakly:

"You betrayed the professors!"

They clashed briefly—Koraidon quickly losing, exhausted.

Turning back to chat, Iono winked, "Sponsored by Aether Foundation’s new Paradox Pokémon Park, opening soon! See you there~"

The audience erupted, laughing at being tricked by Iono’s sudden ad.

Just then, Zinnia stumbled into the cave.

Seeing Koraidon unconscious, she blinked, confused:

"Huh? Did I miss everything again?"
