Chapter 149

The flight continued in relative silence as the task force members settled into an uneasy camaraderie.

Lucy found herself seated between Eve and Ren, both of whom seemed determined to make conversation despite Erza's earlier intervention. Across the cabin, Hibiki was demonstrating some feature of his Archive magic to an interested Ultear, while Gray watched with mild amusement.

Natsu had gravitated immediately toward Wendy, the young Sky Dragon Slayer looking overwhelmed but pleased by his enthusiastic questions about dragons and Dragon Slayer magic.

"So your dragon was named Grandeeney?" Natsu asked, his Charmeleon perched beside him looking equally interested. "Mine was Igneel! Big red dragon, super strong, taught me everything about fire!"

"Grandeeney was gentle," Wendy said softly, her Exceed partner Carla floating protectively nearby. "She taught me healing magic and support spells. Sky Dragon magic is different from Fire Dragon magic."

"That's so cool though! We should totally spar sometime! I wanna see what Sky Dragon magic can do!"

"I don't think sparring is a good idea," Carla interjected primly. "Wendy is a support mage, not a combat specialist like you."

"Everyone should know how to fight," Natsu insisted. "Even support mages. Right, Master Jura?"

Jura, who had been standing near the observation window, turned at being addressed. "Combat capability is valuable," he agreed carefully. "But understanding one's role is equally important. A healer who can keep their team fighting is often more valuable than another attacker."

"See?" Carla said triumphantly.

"But he didn't say she shouldn't learn combat," Natsu pointed out.

"That's... technically correct," Jura admitted with a slight smile.

Erza moved through the cabin, her Lucario following faithfully. She checked on each team member, ensuring everyone was prepared mentally and physically for what was coming.

"Gray, how are your magical reserves?"

"Full," Gray replied, his Snorunt chirping in agreement. "I've been conserving energy. Ready when we arrive."

"Good. Lucy?"

"I'm fine!" Lucy said quickly, then more honestly, "Nervous, but fine. My spirits are ready."

"Nervousness is natural," Erza assured her. "Channel it into focus."

She moved to Ultear, who was reviewing magical formulas in a small notebook. "Everything prepared?"

"As much as possible," Ultear replied, her Kirlia floating serenely beside her. "Arc of Time is ready. I've been thinking about how to use it most effectively against multiple opponents."

"We'll coordinate during the briefing," Erza said. "Your time magic will be crucial for controlling the battlefield."

NIMO's voice echoed through the cabin. "Approaching destination. Altitude descending. Estimated landing in five minutes."

The casual atmosphere shifted immediately. Everyone straightened, checking weapons and magical focuses. Pokemon partners moved closer to their trainers, sensing the change in mood.

Jura's voice carried across the cabin, calm but commanding. "Listen carefully. When we land, we'll conduct immediate reconnaissance of the area. Hibiki, your Archive magic can scan for magical signatures. I want to know if the Oración Seis has already been here."

"Understood, Master Jura," Hibiki replied, his earlier playfulness replaced by professional focus.

"Erza, organize your team for perimeter security. Natsu, Gray, you'll work together despite your usual rivalry. Lucy, keep your spirits on standby. Ultear, I want you ready to slow any enemies if we encounter resistance."

"What about me?" Wendy asked quietly.

"You stay in the center of our formation," Jura said gently but firmly. "Your healing is too valuable to risk in initial contact. If combat begins, your priority is keeping the team functional."

"I understand," Wendy said, though she looked disappointed.

The airship descended through clouds, and the ruins came into view.

They were massive—ancient stone structures that had clearly once been a city or temple complex. Time and nature had reclaimed much of it, with trees growing through broken walls and vines covering entire buildings. But even in decay, there was something magnificent about the architecture. Carved pillars depicting scenes of battles between light and darkness. Massive statues weathered by centuries but still imposing. Archways that led into darkness.

"Impressive," Eve murmured, pressing close to a window. "These ruins must be from the pre-magical era. Before organized magic systems were developed."

"Which makes them perfect for hiding something like Nirvana," Ren added. "Ancient magic often predates our understanding."

Avalon touched down in a cleared area near the ruins' entrance, the landing so smooth that several team members barely noticed the transition.

"Everyone out," Jura commanded. "Stay alert. We don't know what we're walking into."

They disembarked quickly, Pokemon partners following close. The air outside was cooler than expected, carrying a strange quality that made the hair on Lucy's arms stand up.

"Does anyone else feel that?" she asked nervously, her Clefairy pressing against her leg.

"Magic," Ultear said, her eyes scanning the ruins. "Old magic. Very old. The entire area is saturated with it."

"Can you identify the type?" Jura asked.

"No. It's... unlike anything I've encountered before." Ultear frowned. "It's not hostile, but it's not welcoming either. More like... waiting."

"Waiting for what?" Gray asked, his Snorunt's ice crystals forming more rapidly than usual—a sign of stress.

"I don't know."

Hibiki activated his Archive magic, golden magical circles appearing around his head and hands. Data streams flowed through the air, visible only to him. His eyes moved rapidly, processing information.

"Scanning," he announced. "Multiple magical signatures detected. Most are residual—years or decades old. But..." He paused, his expression growing concerned. "There are fresh traces. Very fresh. Within the last six hours."

"The Oración Seis," Jura said grimly. "They've been here."

"Are they still here?" Erza asked, her hand moving to her sword.

"I can't tell," Hibiki admitted. "The ambient magical interference from the ruins is too strong. They could be anywhere within a kilometer and I wouldn't detect them clearly."

"Then we proceed cautiously," Jura decided. "Combat formation. Hibiki, Eve, Ren—you're on reconnaissance. Stay within visual range but scout ahead. Erza, your team forms the main combat line. Wendy, stay with me in the center. If we encounter hostiles, don't engage alone. Call for support immediately."

"Understood," came the chorus of responses.

They moved toward the ruins in formation. Jura led, his massive presence somehow reassuring despite the ominous atmosphere. Erza's team followed—Natsu on the left, eager despite the danger. Gray on the right, focused and controlled. Lucy in the middle with Ultear, both ready to provide support.

The Blue Pegasus Trimens moved ahead, their movements coordinated from obvious practice. Wendy stayed close to Jura, Carla floating protectively beside her.

The entrance to the ruins was a massive archway, covered in carvings that seemed to shift in the corner of vision. Latin-like script covered the surfaces, but none of them could read it.

"The language predates modern Fiorian," Eve noted. "I've seen similar scripts in archaeological texts, but never this extensive."

"What does it say?" Natsu asked impatiently.

"I have no idea," Eve admitted. "Translation would require weeks of study."

They passed through the archway into what had once been a grand hall. Pillars rose on either side, many cracked or fallen. The ceiling had partially collapsed, allowing shafts of sunlight to illuminate the dust-filled air.

And in the center of the hall, carved into the floor itself, was a massive magical circle.

"That's..." Ultear stepped forward, her magical senses overwhelming her caution. "That's not just decorative. That's a functional spell array. And it's still active after all these centuries."

"Can you tell what it does?" Jura asked.

Ultear knelt beside the circle, her Kirlia floating down to examine it alongside her. "It's... complicated. Multiple layers, interwoven functions. But the core purpose seems to be..." She paused, her eyes widening. "Sealing. This entire complex is a seal."

"For Nirvana," Erza said.

"For something," Ultear confirmed. "Whether it's Nirvana specifically, I can't say. But whatever is sealed here is powerful enough to require this level of magical infrastructure."

A sound echoed through the hall—footsteps, deliberate and unhurried.

Everyone tensed immediately, weapons drawn, magic gathering.

From the shadows at the far end of the hall, a figure emerged.

He was tall and lean, dressed in elaborate robes that seemed to absorb light. His face was hidden behind an ornate mask shaped like a skull. But his presence was immediately oppressive—ancient power contained in human form.

"Well, well," the figure said, his voice distorted but clearly amused. "It seems the Council decided to send opposition after all. How... predictable."

"Brain," Jura's voice was hard. "Leader of the Oración Seis."

"Master Jura Neekis," Brain replied with mock respect. "One of the Ten Wizard Saints. I'm honored that the Council considers me such a threat."

His concealed gaze swept across the assembled mages, lingering on each in turn.

"And what an interesting collection you've brought. Blue Pegasus's pretty boys. A young Sky Dragon Slayer—how rare. And..." He paused, his attention focusing on the Fairy Tail members. "Fairy Tail. How unfortunate."

"Unfortunate for you," Natsu said, flames already wreathing his fists. "You're going down!"

"Such confidence," Brain's voice carried dark amusement. "Tell me, young Dragon Slayer, does your guild master know you're here? Does Aiden know you're interfering in matters beyond your understanding?"

The temperature seemed to drop.

"You know Master Aiden?" Lucy asked, surprised despite the tense situation.

"I know of him," Brain corrected. "I've made it my business to understand threats. And your guild master is..." He paused, seeming to choose his words carefully. "Concerning."

"If you know about Master Aiden, then you know you should leave," Gray said, ice forming around his hands. "He won't be happy if you hurt us."

"Oh, I have no intention of fighting you," Brain said, taking a step back. "That would be... unwise. Aiden's students are not opponents I wish to engage directly."

"Then surrender," Erza commanded. "Tell us where Nirvana is, and this can end peacefully."

Brain laughed, the sound hollow and wrong. "Surrender? No, I think not. But I will offer you a choice."

He gestured, and five other figures emerged from the shadows around the hall. Each one radiated power—S-Class level at minimum.

A man with purple hair and a cobra tattoo on his face. A thin man who seemed to vibrate with barely contained speed. A large man whose eyes gleamed with greed. A beautiful woman with an angelic appearance that somehow felt sinister. And finally, a young man whose expression was one of absolute boredom.

The Oración Seis had revealed themselves.

"Here is your choice," Brain said calmly. "Leave now, return to your guilds, and forget about Nirvana. Or stay, and discover why the Oración Seis is considered one of the most dangerous dark guilds in Fiore."

"We're not leaving," Jura said firmly. "And you're not getting Nirvana."

"Then I'm afraid we have a problem," Brain replied.

The man with the cobra tattoo—Cobra—smirked. "Finally, some action. I was getting bored waiting."

The speedster—Racer—blurred slightly, as if he couldn't hold completely still. "This should be over quick."

The large man—Hoteye—licked his lips. "Wonder if any of them have money..."

The woman—Angel—studied the task force with calculating eyes. "Twelve against six. They think numbers give them advantage."

The bored young man—Midnight—yawned. "Can we just get this over with? I want to go back to sleep."

Brain raised his hand. "I'll give you one more chance. Leave now. I have no wish to harm children, even those trained by Aiden."

"We're not children," Erza said, her sword now fully drawn. "And we're not leaving."

"Very well," Brain said with apparent regret. "Then let's see if Aiden's training was sufficient."

He snapped his fingers.

And the Oración Seis attacked.

Cobra moved first, poison magic erupting from his hands in a wave of purple energy. Gray reacted instantly, ice walls rising to block the toxic assault.

Racer became a blur, crossing the distance to Lucy in a fraction of a second. But Erza was faster, her sword intercepting his strike with a resounding clang.

Hoteye's magic made the ground beneath Natsu's feet turn liquid. The Fire Dragon Slayer jumped, flames propelling him upward as he counterattacked.

Angel summoned celestial spirits—but dark versions, corrupted somehow. They clashed with Lucy's own spirits as she desperately tried to defend.

Midnight's magic created an illusion field, making reality itself seem to shift and change. Ultear's time magic countered it, creating a bubble of stable reality.

And Brain remained at the center, watching calmly, his real power still unrevealed.

Jura's earth magic erupted from the ground, massive stone pillars rising to separate the combatants, to create barriers and cover.

"Spread out!" he commanded. "Don't let them isolate you! Work together!"

The ruins exploded into chaos as twelve mages clashed with six dark guild members.

The battle for Nirvana had truly begun.

And somewhere in Magnolia, Aiden's communication crystal began to glow—the first sign that something had gone wrong.
