This is really where I think people start liking this arc. I like this arc quite a bit, but I do agree that the episodes before this focusing on Danzo and Orochimaru are bad due to really awful retcons that make the series worse. This is where I think the arc starts coming around to be good. The retcons still bother me, because the way Orochimaru was introduced it established that the last time he and Kakashi met, was before Obito’s death because Orochimaru mentions him not having the eyes the last time they met, but the other stuff this episode introduce works really well. Specifically what they reveal about the clan, feels organic and also like a type of clan that could exist in this universe. I also really like it because of how they finally get Orochimaru right. The stuff he’s doing with this clan is 100% in line with how his character was portrayed in part 1. We see with Zaku, Kimmimaro that the way he operates is by finding people with extraordinary abilities who are otherwise ostracized from society, and presenting himself as a benevolent and fatherly figure so he can manipulate them into dying for him. I also think the core of the relationship between Yamato and Yukimi is really done well throughout this arc. This is where I think the arc becomes good. But anyway even though I mostly like this arc I'm really enjoying these reactions because I pretty much agree 100% with your issues about the retcons in this arc.
