I think people just really enjoy the showcasing of the things we've never got to see. Interactions between characters in the past that are more casual than all the "flash backs" is a different feeling. I think this is the reason as to why people enjoy this arc so much. I liked it myself and I do think it adds bits and pieces here and there, but it for sure has it's flaws.
