You're almost right, but approaching it from the wrong side. An early lead is used to help dictate how the game turns out. The team that stops adjusting is the one that will lose. You take objectives not just to score but to control the map, weapons, and the enemy spawns. If you don't know there's someone watching B every time you push, you're at a huge disadvantage, but if your opponent is in the same spot every single time, now you're able to to adapt and if they don't change their behavior, even a significant lead will evaporate.
