Lindsey is correct about the damage to the village after the war. It would have been because of the roots from the Devine Tree that sprung up all over the planet to cocoon people. It would have caused a lot of damage in all the villages from where they protruded from the ground.

To clarify: Tsukki's brother did make the team, but was buried so far on the depth chart that he wasn't even on the bench. That's how stacked Karasuno was at the time (you can see his brother's skill when he receives the ball into the basketball hoop).
