2021-04-26 13:24:33 +0000 UTCSorry, the text stalker is back, but you guys seriously have the best analysis for "kids your age" (I am literally old enough to be one of your parents so don't take that the wrong way. I am impressed as hell by your reaction and analysis). In one of the last two episodes, they literally gave the in canon reason why talk-no-jutsu works. Remember the whole thing about the Sage of Six Paths created and spreading Ninshu, so that people can train in Ninshu and use it to connect and understand one another? Think about Nagato and Naruto just did. They have literally been inside each others bodies with chakra and are radiating it at one another while they talk. Nagato and Naruto truly connected and understood one another.

After the First Great Ninja Sarotobi took on the three future Sannin as his genin team (they were all like 8 years old, all were prodigies in different ways). After completing their training, presumably after they became Chunin, Jiraiya was still struggling because he basically was like Naruto and thought pointless fighting was stupid. Now its unclear as to how Jiraiya became a toad summoner, I don't recall if its even mentioned in the manga and I think there are like 2 or 3 different versions in the anime but either Sarotobi told him about the toads or Jiraiya left after becoming a Chunin to seek wisdom and found Mt Myoboku and studied for years with the toads. He returned and became a Jonin, Then he became a sensei to Team Jiraiya, which included Minato. Then the Second Great Shinobi war broke out. Minato and most young genin were kept out of it. Jiraiya, Orochimaru and Tsunade made their name in thie war, leading up to the battle with Hanzo. However none of the three were Kage level yet. But due to their team work, they stalemated Hanzo and since the battle was basically over, Hanzo recognized their power and future potentual and named them the Sannin. Then what you are now watching occurred. Jiraiya trained Nagato, Konan and Yahiko. Then he returned to the village and took Minato as his personal apprentice because he thought that Minato was the actual child of prophecy (but even before that he loved Minato as a son). Then the third Great Shinobi war broke out. And it was going not well for Konoha (though they probably would have won) but then basically Minato came into his power and put the living fear of God into the enemies of Konoha. That war ended and a shortly thereafter Minato became Hokage. Then somewhere between one and three years later the events of Naruto begin (the Nine tails attack).

You have to go back and read through Kishimoto explaining some of the back story. To avoid spoilers of things that are revealed in the story, I will only say that prior to the establishment of Konoha, which led to the establishment of the hidden village system, the historical period was referred to as the warring States period. And it was several centuries of all out war, not just between feudal rules and rich people with associations with ninja clans, but actual massive armies and it was devastating all the nations, great and small. The reason for the establishment of the hidden village system and the resulting political changes was so that no mass wars occured any longer. Onlyl shinobi under the control of the Daimyo, who could, with the Daimyo's approval engage in contracts and violence against others were the approved means of war. So in the First, Second and Third Shinobi wars, the damage, while extreme, was actually rather restrained in area of effect, to areas that directly affect the hidden villages, their interests or the interests of those who give them orders or hire them. So large areas of the nations were comparatively damage free.

The only way that I can answer it without spoilers is by saying that the answer is big. Like one of the largest, most significant and most under appreciated answers in this show.
