Playing catchup after a crazy overloaded May with your reactions. This episode and its corrresponding parts in the manga are nice examples of something Kishimoto did very will with Naruto as a character. Many people don't process this on their first read/watch or even their second but Naruto is not only totally socially undeveloped due to how he was treated in the village for the first 12 or so years of his life but severely mentally ill. Until he met Jiraiya and Tsunade who basically gave him parental love for the first time in his life, albeit in the Naruto world way of child soldiers and such, His standards to treat people were based on horrible people. The Third Hokage who made bad decisions and manipulated Naruto, the Ramen stand vendors who (granted its the only thing that the Third Hokage allowed them to do) basically gave him free food and a safe space. Sakura who basically hit him, treated him like mold on the wall and use him to get things done for her. Its a wonder that he fixated on Sasuke, who was basically the first and only person who treated Naruto in any way like a person, well in Sasuke's case he treated Naruto at first like the way that Sasuke treated everyone else. But then when he realized that only Naruto could push him to become better, for a short time he basically gave Naruto the closest thing to positive feedback that Naruto ever got
And Naruto is driven to prove all those shitty villagers who treated him like a monster wrong by driving himself to prove that he is not a monster. Even after becoming the Hero of the Leaf, Naruto is still trying to process his own issues and get a true way of determining his own selfworth which is not driven by what others think of him. Not to spoiler it, but Jiraiya then Tsunade and then meeting his dad were the first steps in this process.

Lindsay putting her arm around Carson during the intro, so cute. Also, Carson's reaction, (Don't touch me!), just how Sasuke reacted to Madara during Itachi's backstory episodes, but Carson reacting with a smile instead :)
