2023-09-28 23:52:59 +0000 UTC"It was so sad... yet so good" Pretty much sums up Fruits Basket. I forgot this was a Momiji's backstory episode. Any Momiji-centric episode makes me sob. His story is so devastating but he's so positive all the time. We have seen how emotionally intelligent he is, but it is so sad to see that a huge reason why he is is because he had to understand some really traumatic events at a very young age. I adore his character and even thinking about it as I'm typing this is making me tear up 🥲 Love that you picked up on how Tohru relates to this when it comes to the recent death of her mother! Thinking back on the beginning of the series when we meet Tohru - her mom had only been dead for a few months and she was living in a tent. She is so positive, but it also seems to me like she hasn't really had time to process her mother's death, because immediately after she had to deal with her family arguing over who would take her in, start working and studying so that she can fulfill her promise to her mom. I think that this moment with Momiji helped her take a moment to actually grieve and start processing what she's been through. This episode is such a banger.

2023-09-25 06:32:58 +0000 UTCGreat reaction, I love this episode so much! It's a little funny that we switch to such a positive and upbeat opening during a really emotional and sad episode. So with regard to episode 1, I think you guys may be misremembering slightly. The guys don't switch what they call Tohru, Yuki and Shigure just happen to refer to her in different ways. So far, Shigure has always referred to her as "Tohru-kun", Yuki refers to her as "Honda-san", and Kyo... doesn't refer to her as anything. So far he hasn't used her given name or surname at all. It's a slightly interesting detail about their characters.
