This is the best reaction video I've ever watched honestly.. I really love how you guys always 100% honest with what you think about the series and go really into details that sometimes gets neglected by a lot of people. Those small details sum up this amazing anime! I can't agree with you more! I love you guy!

2023-10-10 18:24:08 +0000 UTCI think it's funny how you guys discussed OP's confidence in its storytelling this early on, because just today I stumbled upon this very recent interview between Inoue, the mangaka of Slam Dunk, and Oda. Where Oda explained to Inoue how, during the early days of OP's serialization, he saw a survey that asked famous mangaka what manga piqued their interest and how Inoue had picked One Piece – for the same reason you guys pointed out in this ep lol – saying 'The creator really believes in his work'.

2023-10-09 17:02:17 +0000 UTCGreat reaction ! The animation quality does not drop off, it gets better with time, even more in the latest arc where the quality is amazing for a weekly anime, the pacing issue comes way later, like in a really long time for you, and its mainly 2 arcs that have that problem but i would recommend you to stay on the original anime as loong as you can and enjoy the journey. Overall the adaption is good. Just a little warning for later, the recap at the intro keeps getting longer so at some point its better for you to skip it and avoid reading the titles of the episodes, they are very spoilery.

2023-10-09 09:32:57 +0000 UTCPeople taking about pacing issues already? Come on they just barely started. Just chill for a sec, let them enjoy the journey. Please and thank you.

2023-10-09 05:24:52 +0000 UTCWhile watching the reaction, the part with the giant bird reminded me of the part in the live action when Luffy thinks of sneaking into the marine base by finding a bird and riding on it XD I wonder if that was a nod to this part. Since the team seems like massive One Piece fans, it would not surprise me!

2023-10-09 03:37:44 +0000 UTCI think, you guys will gonna like Bakuman. It's a manga-making series and characters were based on real life Mangakas (but comically) and Death Note mangakas (Obha and Obata) were the one created Bakuman.

2023-10-08 23:17:14 +0000 UTCThis. The anime is also just an adaptation – though much more faithful than the LA one – so it can definitely can muddy the waters sometimes

2023-10-08 21:09:58 +0000 UTCYou're right, Kite and Shanks share the same VA, Shūichi Ikeda, who is 73 years old as of now.

2023-10-08 19:42:43 +0000 UTCFor a fun bit of trivia Buggy is voiced by Shigeru Chiba who you might be familiar with as the voice of Jogo from Jujutsu Kaisen.

2023-10-08 18:42:02 +0000 UTCI think there should be a, "skipping intro in 5..4..3..2..1" lol cause there's gonna be one in every episode and they get longer as the series progresses.

2023-10-08 15:11:08 +0000 UTCSHANKS THE CHARISMA GOAT. All due respect to live action and the actor for Shanks, but anime/manga Shanks is just infinitely better. Same with Luffy

2023-10-08 14:24:34 +0000 UTCThe animation quality imo gets better and better until like 500 episodes in where it takes a dip. You'll be too invested in the story by that point to care about it tho, unless you're doing like 1-2 episodes a week then it might be painful. If you're doing 4-6 a week it'll be totally fine. It does start to get better tho and then in the current arc it just leaps to borderline movie quality, and even better than that in certain moments There's only one arc that I would recommend One Pace for like 600 episodes in but tbh if you're enjoying early One Piece this much I think you'll be fine

2023-10-08 12:47:18 +0000 UTCOh if you guys are curious about a where the pacing drops off the graph on this reddit page is very good. It doesn't have episode numbers just arc names which only become evident once your in the arcs or just before. It's safe to say not for a while. https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/pw70km/one_piece_anime_adaptation_rate_by_arc_average_no/

2023-10-08 12:14:00 +0000 UTCI guess that puts an end to the first arc, "Romance Down". Onwards to the "Orange Town" arc, the second arc of the "East Blue" Saga. Small nuance, they did not show how Luffy got his scar in the episode, as opposed to the Manga chapter and the live-action episode, an example of censorship that rarely happens, but it's worth noting that it's there. Also, to add to your point on how Oda is writing what comes next as the story goes, he originally intended for One Piece to go for no more than 5 years but was leaving off a lot of ambiguous comments by characters or through passive hints in the world that he found himself expanding the story further to cover all of that up, it's a testament to his ability as a writer and what makes One Piece so special, yes, not everything was planed, but the fact how everything is still interconnected in the most organic way is an achievement in and of itself.

2023-10-08 12:09:18 +0000 UTCI think what your reffering to is like “Subtle Ambiguity” Carson and yes oda does this quite well. Personally I think that is the key to a good writer and author, to be able choreograph things in that way. To leave things open in a way that its obvious oda has a means to expand upon it later, rather if its improvized or not which in my opinion is the key to master his craft to be far more in touch with his world and characters.

2023-10-08 11:40:17 +0000 UTCDon't feel to intimidated guys by its length and pacing, you don't have to worry about these things for ALONG LONG time. Just enjoy the journey. I will say carson that your ability to analze things so well will greatly enhance your experience. In fact I know another reactor (shout out to Ishinobi) that got so involved into one piece that he created an entire map on his wall with notations trying to jot down all the questions he has and the mysteries and the relationships of events and characters, etc. Kind of like the old murder map. Its quite interesting.

2023-10-08 11:16:23 +0000 UTCYeah lol, even in 1999 it was considered very cartoony and not quite up to the standards of late 1990's traditional animation but it improves dramatically later on, even oda's art improves in the manga as well over the course of time and so there for the anime does as well.

2023-10-08 10:44:24 +0000 UTCSince you mention the writing, I'll add in that the anime does switch events around in this beginning section. The manga starts chapter 1 as Luffy and Shanks, and then Luffy sets off on his journey. Which to me is a stronger opening, but I can see why the anime would rather open with a more actiony episode instead. Also, as someone mentioned, the anime does censor some moments - Luffy giving himself the scar doesn't happen in the anime for child self harm and whatnot. That long discussion at the end is exactly why I watch y'all and this is only episode 4. I'm hyped for your journey lol

2023-10-08 10:05:33 +0000 UTCAlso, just to add, after finishing the analysis bit, I totally get what you guys were getting at. One Piece isn't just good, its good in a special way. I'm glad you guys are realizing that so early on, this is gonna be an amazing ride!

2023-10-08 09:51:03 +0000 UTCyea everyone dogging on the pacing is think of one specific..... very... very long arc. The pacing isnt great, they usually only do one chapter per episode after a while, one arc just does less than a chapter for its entirety. its pretty bad, even if u do one pace through that arc when the time comes, its def worth coming back to the main show once your past that certain arc as one pace is best watched on a rerun as some directory choices from the production (TOEI) are really well done but is cut out none the less, leaving questionable moments of music and animation. If its not from a panel, its cut, even if a scene is added there to smooth the transition between jarring scenes. One Pace rapid deletes scenes while blindfolded some times. Anyway, this is a discussion to have a million years away. Great reactions and discussions, Excited for u guys to get to new material. Also, when i watched HxH this year, I heard Kite and went "omg Shanks!" reversed reactions lol
Meme Team!
2023-10-08 09:37:22 +0000 UTCThought I would mention this If you didn't catch it yet, but there is one paticular scene that was not shown in the anime that was in the LA and that was luffy as a child cutting him self to give him a scar. This was in the manga but was considered to violent to put in the anime series at the time.

2023-10-08 09:33:27 +0000 UTCI'm not sure where the "the adaptation is shit" narrative comes from. I can think of 2 arcs much much later on that do drag on a bit but the main drag for those was watching them as they were coming out week to week. For those I can understand wanting to trim it down a bit but in my opinion the vast majority of the series doesn't need much adjusting. You'll obviously get a better feel for it the more you watch and I do hope you'll decide to just watch the regular episodes rather than a condensed version (with the exception of possibly skipping the very minimal filler). For me one of the biggest draws with One Piece is the journey and not the destination, I think the goal shouldn't be to reach the end but to enjoy the ride. I trust you guys to figure it out for yourselves it just hurts my heart to hear that there's an overly negative impression of the adaptation when I have nothing but love for it.

2023-10-08 09:29:03 +0000 UTCYeah I can confirm that animation and art get much better as the series goes on. And keep in mind that One Piece’s anime came out 3 years before Naruto’s anime did

2023-10-08 08:53:09 +0000 UTCGreat reaction guys but I got to let you guys know the animation does get better. The style of animation and characters change through the years but if you watched the episodes that came out this year compared to the first episodes it’s way better. It does not “fall off”. I can understand if some ppl don’t like the animation in the middle of the series and nothings perfect but overall the animation is good and goes with the times. So don’t worry to much about that. 🙌❤️
