Pretty good episode. I watched this in spanish while seeing your reaction, so I couldn't quite follow along with everything going on lol. I also forget how much actually went on in the beginning of this show. I'm excited to review futher episodes and have my mind blown by the in-depth character writing one piece provides. Shushu is cute!

2023-10-15 06:12:48 +0000 UTCI have been a fan of anime for at least 25+ years now. I am 39 now. In my great historical journey through this fascinating medium starting back from the early days of DBZ, Ronin Warriors and Card Captor Sakura, Filler was never even a word. People just didn't care what was manga and what was canon. I think this whole trend started with Naruto if I’m being honest. When we had 80+ episodes of filler after the original story ended. People were having so many withdrawals at the time for source material, that filler became a coined term we the fandom created to differentiate the difference between canon source and original stories and those 80+ ep we had to sit through before shippuuden finally was broadcasted. This is also when people where scrutinized for watching naruto in the early days and called narutards for having any kind of association with the franchise whatsoever. I seen it all firsthand and watched as the communities evolved and as we got older, we kind of stirred away from that childish mindset. Prior to that I remember as a fandom people just watched it to enjoy it as an entertainment hobby especially during the BOOM of the ova in the 1990’s and we took everything at face value. I think over the years, audiences and how they view anime has changed to where people have these certain expectations “are they going to do this scene Right” or “I hope this pacing is good”. “oh no filler arc, skip it” ect and people forget to look at things from a pure creative and story telling standpoint. In the early 2000’s there was a lot of anime that had original stories mostly due to the fact that the anime ran out of source material at the time, like soul eater, Full metal alchemist, Fruits basket, Inuyasha, hell even Dragon ball Z with Goku’s driver’s license episode (ill never forget that one). How ever people still enjoyed it for what it was. I just think for fans in general there’s that appreciation of the medium that is kind of missing these days because we want everything to be a 1:1 manga. Obv with something like OP its a justification that is warrented because of how many ep this show has but even smaller adaptations are often targeted by manga philes that tell you to skip everything that is not manga. Some "original material" can be just as good. This is how I know this a serous problem. Take for example a fan that comes into the story blindly with out any preconcieved notions of manga or any expectations of any sort, how would they perceive the pacing, the story telling then without others perswaying there descisions and influencing how they watch a show. I think this is a more accurate and more "True to your self" respresentation of what you think about a paticular story or work.

2023-10-14 21:02:39 +0000 UTCThis my first time rewatching this episode and I was thinking the same thing – especially that trifecta of Luffy, Chouchou & the mayor stood out to me. Luffy fighting for Chouchou's treasure and by that putting it above his own treasure for that short moment (I really liked how they showed his strawhat flying away while he fought Moji and Luffy for once prioritizing something other than the hat in that moment) because he respected the dog's willingness to die for his treasure. And then Luffy proceeding to do so in Chouchou's stead – someone who had no agency – and then in turn inspiring other people, who witnessed this resolve of his, to do so as well (the mayor going off to fight to the death for the sake of his town), that is I feel like who Luffy and what One Piece is at its core. I also can't help but think that Nami witnessing all this is intentional (besides the obvious reason for her to realize what kind of pirate/person Luffy is) and this trifecta did serve, not just as parallel for the entire story, but also especially for Arlong Park & Nami's storyline. Oda fr be the God of Foreskinning🙌🏾💯

2023-10-14 20:44:22 +0000 UTCYow. Back in the day when I was watching One Piece and internet gatekeeping is not a thing, I even don't know what "filler episodes" are. So it was so fun for me to watch all episodes without knowing if this is cannon or not. But people these days just straight up skip those episodes as they think it is not important as the source material. I even wonder how tf they skip Skypiea arc like bruh. In the end, those "filler arcs" or "pad stories" are enjoyable for me in this show.

2023-10-14 15:48:10 +0000 UTCThe fact that there's people that have skipped Skypiea💀

2023-10-14 07:38:13 +0000 UTCThe purpose of the content in the episode was to demonstrate how Luffy doesn't question what other people consider as important to them. If someone considers something their treasure then he will respect that no matter what. Similar to how the stuff with Zoro and Helmeppo was to illustrate Zoro and Luffy's agreed view on respect and honor, this was to illustrate how Nami and Luffy relate in that they value desires other than just their own. The term "filler" is thrown around a lot and sometimes people use it to describe canon events that pad the story (I personally would call this "padding") when its original definition was to describe events that didn't take place in the source material. People tend to refer to things with a very loose definition of filler and refer to actual canon arcs as "filler arcs", because of that it has become a pretty big sore spot for One Piece fans so if you use it inappropriately people get upset XD

2023-10-14 06:36:35 +0000 UTCNope not filler. The key meaning here is "treasure" and what exactly defines a treasure. After watching ep 7-8 I think you might have a better idea about this. Its a bit deeper then most fans realize and there is some alluding to things here that have greater significance thematically in the story.

2023-10-13 22:23:27 +0000 UTCThe fact they give this one off dog the saddest backstory while he got the shit beat out of him is ridiculous lol almost forgot about this.

2023-10-13 12:12:52 +0000 UTCWhat a good boy, my only gripe about the Live Action is that we didn't get to see much of him except for the 2 seconds of him running at the end of the episode.

2023-10-13 09:03:55 +0000 UTCthis was all canon, the live action had to cut a lot. expect entire episodes together that the live action didnt use still

2023-10-13 04:00:07 +0000 UTCJust letting you know that there are no fillers in the Anime right now. Some fillers show up in like the 60s episodes. This is all canon, they just chose not to put it in the live action bc they only have 8 episodes to put in 45 episodes of One Piece. So obviously they had to make the story tight and try to get the main points of the story across.

2023-10-13 03:32:41 +0000 UTCdon't assume guys if characters were not shown in LA then it's a filler... richie and chouchou were hard and costly to adapt and they decided that 1 episode is enough to cover buggy's arc... in LA, richie was just shown as a poster and chouchou actually got a brief cameo (when the mayor gave luffy a food in the end)
