2023-11-01 19:32:27 +0000 UTCnope absolutely agree with you. I watch one piece more because of oda's world building, characters, and story. The fight choreography is secondary for me.

2023-11-01 02:06:05 +0000 UTCI pretty sure I am not alone with this opinion but the fights are imo the least interesting part about One Piece lol (not saying they're bad!)

2023-10-31 09:35:41 +0000 UTCSwordplay is an art for sure and oda isn’t the greatest at depicting a believable realistic representation of sword fighting. This is a shonen series and he doesn't really think about the logistics behind real sword combat. There is plenty of other mangaka's that do in terms of actually representing acrobatic swordplay and even the Stratagems and tactics involved to a much deeper extent like for example, Blade of the immortal or Shigurui where the illustrator of the manga, more realistically telegraphs the martial arts movements and physicality of actual sword combat. Most people just watch OP for its Sakuga shonen magic, chi blasts and auras or its absurd techniques and flashy combo moves. In a shonen you can’t put much logic into the mechanics of the action sequences, they are there just to appease the kids for liking things that look “cool”. Although later in the series, the animation budget increases with the technology so more specific fluid motion picture sequences and crisper art are much more evident and it increases that cool factor up to 11. You can take a series like OG naruto for example created by Studio Periot, where i believe the telegraphing and fluidity of combat was far more depicted realistically for martial arts fans, then one piece is and of course it was all about ninja's so it kind of had to be (just my personal opinion) But Carson, I really love that you look at things from this deep of a level and at this kind of angle. It really shows how very perceptive and analytical you are when looking at a production and the way its being presented. It will be interesting to see your thoughts, when the animation reaches peak levels during certain moments.

2023-10-30 22:26:14 +0000 UTCCarson surely there would be times where attacking with both swords at the same spot would be beneficial, the person gripping the one sword with two hands would have the advantage against the one sword gripped with one hand in terms of relative strength

2023-10-30 20:09:50 +0000 UTCCarson said in a recent stream that they've already watched it some time ago, but he's having problems editing it because apparently he was overly harsh with Kaguya's character in the beginning, tho he enjoyed how things developed after noticing she was being wrote as annoying on purpose

2023-10-30 14:03:16 +0000 UTCBy the way, this is a off-topic question, but are you going to watch the Kaguya-sama movie? Or did I miss it somewhere?

2023-10-30 10:05:43 +0000 UTCyes, what i mean is, like you said, it was no effort for him, so since he didn't show is true strength, it leaves no real power scaling issue for the future because we dont know what he is truly capable of if he puts some real effort in a fight.

2023-10-30 09:47:51 +0000 UTCI mean, we literally see him cut a galleon in half with little to no effort. That's his biggest feat thus far, and it didn't break a sweat. So I think we're good on the power scaling front. Until we see Zoro producing similar feats, forget the same league, he's not even on the same plane of existance as Mihawk.

2023-10-30 09:42:49 +0000 UTCThe intensity of the battle exceeded that of the live action for all the right reasons, with increased choreography, monologues, and mid-fight flashbacks, effectively heightening the overall action. It was clear to Zoro that he couldn't match Mihawk's skill, as his statement "we can't be this far apart" emphasized. This fight can be seen as a way to gauge the gap in abilities between Zoro and Mihawk. Which was shocking to him by the end.

2023-10-30 09:01:51 +0000 UTCCarson hit the nail on the head with Zoro and why he decides to fight Mihawk despite knowing how strong he is. He knows that he's insanely powerful but admitting that he cant beat him now is the same as losing to him so rather than a 100% chance of losing due to not trying he takes the chance of fighting him. Something I really appreciate about One Piece in general is how, just because we know its early episodes, the characters don't act that way. Zoro said multiple times fighting Mihawk, "There's no way the top is this far". From our perspective we know, of course the worlds best far surpasses episode 24 Zoro, but for Zoro, this fight is 10 years in the making. The majority of Zoro's time spent alive has been spent preparing for this moment and he's completely helpless. Another way you could look at the line "Theres no way its this far" could be Zoro acknowledging that he knew there was a gap in their ability but believing that he would be able to transcend his current level and bridge the gap mid fight with Mihawk. Regarding power scaling, no spoilers but I think you guys will appreciate how One Piece tackles the issue.

2023-10-30 09:00:52 +0000 UTCGreat reaction ! The thing with the power scaling between Mihawk and zoro ( no spoilers ), is that Mihawk doesn't seem to show is true strength so i dont think its a problem for later, because for all we know maybe he can do energy blast ( i take your exemple ) but we just dont know. So later they can make him as strong as they wont and it wont be surprising or unrealistic because Mihawk didn't really show anything, he fought with a little knife litteraly. Thats my opinion. ( sorry for my english )
