Another way to look at Nojiko and the villagers perspective on "going with the flow" is that, like Gen said, if they were going to rebel physically, they should have done it 8 years ago where as instead we know that Nojiko knows what Nami is doing and is trusting in her. Also, totally agree with the idea that the live action made the material better for its specific medium and constraints. In an 8 part series that didn't even know if it would get a season 2, the way they build up all the characters was great. The way I feel and hopefully you guys will too is that One Piece the anime ,similarly, does a great job of setting up its characters for a longer series with an expansive world.

Arlong has been thriving for 8 years, almost finalizing his plans when these guys happen to arrive, you get Zoro beating up the Fishman, stealing one of their shirts and chilling on Arlong's chair, Luffy and gang beating up their pet and using it as a chariot, and Usopp over here straight up spitting on the big boss's face and making a run for it. I love it. One of my favorite things about this whole arc is that pinwheel on Gen's hat, I love how out there and loud it is, cartoonishly breaking up the silence when Arlong was bullying him. Lindsay standing up for Momou and Carson being all on board with the guys being him was so on-brand and funny.

2023-11-09 10:39:28 +0000 UTCI honestly don't think that she actually believes that. To me, it just seems like she's trying to talk herself into it, because she has no other choice. A big part of her character is to play strong, to not ask for help and do everything herself. She wouldn't be able to do that if she was afraid that her plan wouldn't work, so he has no choice but to cope and tell herself that it will all end up fine. That's at least my interpretation.

In LA she came off WAY more desperate that she does here. the LA Nami wouldn't say "Arlong is a stand-up guy, he'll come through" in the tone that anime Nami did here
