Even with the use tangerines have in preventing scurvy, Coco Village isn't exactly a center of commerce. They probably don't get a lot of sailors stopping at their island, so Bellemere's customers would largely be the villagers in her own village, and the surrounding villages on the island.

The Anime's lack of realism, not just compared to the Live Action but also to other shows, is notable. But then it gives Oda access to the perfect canvas of Romance to tell his grand story. It's a plus to a story like One Piece's and plays really to its strengths. What truly underscores the harshness of Nami's life is the stark contrast between her past self—bright, smiling, and bringing people together, fortifying their will to live—and her current demeanor, which is gloomy and seems to express a sense of being completely over it.
