Belle-mere made the best choice to protect her kids. As a Marine, she most likely knew that the Arlong Pirates had destroyed their ships and they'd be found eventually and all 3 would be killed. Even if she didn't, sending two small children out to sea by themselves in a small boat would all but guarantee their death.

2023-11-14 04:16:27 +0000 UTCIt is funny that you mention that the pirates are on some viking shit. Growing up Oda watched a kids anime called Vicky the Viking and was inspired to make his own manga. He kind of viewed these vikings as a form of pirate and decided to create a story about it. You can tell that as he grew up he probably learned the truth about how brutal vikings were. However still having that child like wonder of what Vicky the Viking was about he decided to make his main cast a group of whimiscal fun pirates and those around them a more realistic portrayal of "vikings".

OP characters can often defy logic in favor of decisions driven by personal values & emotions, which aligns with the 'romance' of adventure & personal bonds this series often emphasizes. Shanks losing his arm to save Luffy, Zoro facing Mihawk and generally everything Luffy does capture this essence. This thematic choice to emphasize the strength of bonds and the pursuit of one's beliefs, at the expense of the "smart" choice, is just something that either people love right off the bat or grow to like over time. I mean Romance Dawn was the name of One Piece's prototype one-shot & its first saga for a reason lol

2023-11-13 12:48:03 +0000 UTCThe line "Nojiko, Nami ... I love you" gets me emotional every time. The entire situation seriously messed with Nami's mind. She's still in a state of mourning, yet there she is, grappling with the money Arlong gave her, wearing a manic grin. Bringing up the Romance aspect again, I appreciate how the live action took a more realistic storytelling approach, but Oda seems to have a different agenda in mind. Carson's observation about Luffy, a pirate, reminding Nami of Bellmere a Marine she once loved, was spot on. It's a tough pill for her to swallow—pirates, who have wrecked her world, becoming her liberators. That's likely why she kept rejecting them until this point.

2023-11-13 08:59:34 +0000 UTCMan I have always wanted to re-watch one piece at some point but I always felt a bit intimidated to take on this gargantuan task and especially if it meant that I would be leaving alot of other series i want to get to, on the back burner but your content is just the ticket I needed. I am here full stop till the end. This is my re-watch of one piece. Hell by the time you guys catch up lol, oda maybe writing the final story. So this really is a perfect time as any to experience this glorious shonen. I wish I can erase my mind and start fresh, you have no idea how many incredible moments are ahead of you.
