I imagine its a much smaller % now, i was basing the 13% from like 8 years ago I think.

I don't think the upcoming filler arc is particularly good. It also includes a couple things that end up contradicting the manga. Unfortunately, it also includes some important canon information on the grand line. Luckily that isn't a common thing with the fillers, at least.

Speaking of Naruto and One Piece it’s 100% worth comparing them. I mean Naruto One Piece and Bleach were known as The Big 3 all throughout the 2000’s they were the 3 most popular manga in Jump and their anime’s were super successful, so comparing those 3 series to each other makes sense. About the filler arcs in One Piece, they’re usually quite short. This next filler arc is only around 8 episodes, and most filler arcs in this series are about that length, or shorter. I also remember liking the arc when I first watched it but your mileage might vary.

David Butt

Currently One Piece filler is at only 9% out of 1085 eps, I even calculated for fun that if you remove all the filler episodes, the anime doesn't yet have 1000 canon episodes until early 2024.

Their used to this kind of canon/filler with naruto but at least with OP its a very rare occurance, in fact the only time I think it happens is here and in alabasta arc. Outside of that, you never see this kind of mixing of filler/canon again. Also well most filler arcs are generally great to watch and never impede the main story, the first arc I feel not only contradicts elements of the canon but also just feels like it don't fit within the OP universe at all so yeah I do advise skipping but ep 55 is a very immportant episode to watch because this won't be brought back up in the story for a VERY long time and usually only through exposition or dialogue.

a possibility would be a reaction consisting of ep55&61 the 8 minutes of 55 without a sync up (just a quick watch to get that one explanation) & then start the sync up reaction at the mid-episode title card of 61. but idk man...at this point, I feel like just reading the first few pages from ch101 would be easier than all this😭 but at the end of the day it is them that has to decide all this anyway

klairvoyance

Point 1 and 2 explain something important about the Grand Line.

he'd look like krillin

idk about points 1 and 2, but the 3rd point is worth watching. this is def. what you would call a skippable filler arc. like the other person said above, it kills the momentum of the story. it would also be a complete pain to sync for the uncuts if you were to just watch the bits of canon stuff in 54/55 as they are not as important/relevant and will be explained/recapped in the future anyways. 61 although is a pain but pretty much the later half of the episode is canon. so i'd suggest either watching it all or starting roughly halfway the episode

Weedzel

As a heads up, the upcoming filler arc (after ep53) has some important canon material intertwined with it. I know that w/ timer reactions this will get tricky on how you will handle this, but these are the canon tidbits in-between 54 and 61: 1) last 5 minutes of 54 (optional, since it's in the recap of 55) 2) first 8 minutes of 55 3) second half of 61 Considering the end discussion, you could watch 54 & 55, and if you think it's interesting, watch 56-60, and if not, skip to 61 (though imo the only filler arc worth watching is the 5th filler arc, not this one)

klairvoyance

Skip the upcoming filler. I'm not against all filler. Maybe if it took place before Logue town, however in my opinion this particular filler draggs down, if not kills, the momentum of the story. People will point at the fact that percentage-wise, OP as very little filler but it's still like 100 episodes.

blu_regards

The good thing about OP filler arcs is they are relatively short, pretty decent and their is only 9% filler out of 1085+ episodes. As compared to Naruto/shippuden which has 41% Would recommend g8 when you get to that as its the best one.

Whoopsie

I love how seamless these episodes were, too bad Oda was too set on Math Piece that he had to sneak this content out of the Manga.

EOussama

These episodes were fun but definitely a bit of a side trip. The next two are iconic to One Piece fans. I can't wait 💪

Fun fact about the big fish they caught, the first dish Sanji was shown cooking in the live action was the "True Blue Fin Saute with Elephant Tuna", which was a reference to that fish 😊

SomeoneElse

Most filler in one piece is appropriately placed, never hindering the main story and usually set up as separate to the canon that you can watch as an individual story. In some cases there are certain dramatic tones to the main plot and fillers may be placed after these arcs to provide a difference in tonal shift and it’s like 3-5 episodes, at the most 11-12 to give you that down time after something intense. Also filler ratio is something like 12-13% as opposed to naruto’s which is like 43%. So there is a Significant difference in filler arcs between the two shows.

Artimes

this episode and the last episode are things oda wanted to put in the manga but left it out because he wanted the strawhats to get to the grandline by chapter 100 so he cut these but the anime added them in.( I also think there is a lightnovel and the events were also add to them)

megalazyguy

I'm pretty sure they know that, but with Buggy's Chop Chop abilities, he can literally just take it off, he'll look weird but he can do it.
