The part about the Sohma Clan existing as long as the Zodiac is presumably correct? If it wasn't, then the Zodiac wouldn't consistently reincarnate into the Sohma Clan.

I remember reading this when I was 14 and did not see a single issue with this relationship ahaha. It's so different when rewatching as an adult. I personlly like to pretend the age gaps don't exist for my own peace of mind lol As for the incest I like to believe that the Sohma clan has been around as long as the Zodiac so the relation is practically non-existent, again, this is for me so I can avoid the culture shock 😂 Great analysis on the pacing of the show changing. I think someone mentioned this before, but Season 1 is pretty much an introduction to the characters and the premise of the show. You probably noticed, but it was essentially a season of backstories lol. So the change in tone you're feeling is very much real.

I am always careful when animes and shows overall present us with big age gap romance involving teenagers like Uo and Kureno but in this case, I don't have a lot of issues with it because of the dynamic and the way both characters are presented and developed. About Rin, she is actually older than Tohru. She is still in school because of all the health issues etc but she is older. The beach arc is here and there are a lot of things developing with it. Looking forward to it!

The reason why it’s likely here is because it's a really popular trope in romances, not just in Japan but like everywhere there are tons of them in English-written romances as well. But yeah it’s not my favorite trope. It’s also the beginning of the Beach Arc, and maybe the first continuous plot-focused stretch of the series so much happens in these episodes.
